Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Altboot Problem
« on: September 27, 2006, 12:21:26 am »
I'm having trouble getting altboot to work with compressed cardfs files. I'm trying to use the latest Hentges release on my 5600.

Perhaps I don't fully understand how to set it up correctly, so maybe someone can point out the error(s) I'm making.

1) I extracted the bootstrap initrd.bin, zImage, and updater and copied it to a blank SD card and then flashed my Poodle.

2) I used a second empty SD formatted as ext2 and created a directory named 'boot-images'. Into that directory I copied:
     cardfs-gpe-poodle-openzaurus_oz3.5.4.2-rc2-gpe2.7-T1-RC1.bin
     cardfs-opie-poodle-openzaurus_oz3.5.4.2-rc2-opie1.2.1-T1-RC1.bin

I discovered by reading the /etc/alboot.func file that boot images must be named
'*-rootfs.bin', so I renamed the two files using that suffix.

4) When I boot the system, I get the altboot menu and select 3 for booting off SD.

5) It then displays a menu showing the two rootfs choices from above. I pick one (say Opie).

6) I get an error from fsck that says 'bad magic number in super-block...' and then fails.

Is it something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
radioz

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Altboot Problem?
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:54:37 pm »
I'm having a problem trying to use Altboot with the latest OZ build.

I've installed a rootfs on my SD card. When I use altboot to try to start up it seems to pivot-root onto the SD card ok, but before the Opie touch screen calibration has a chance to start, it 'notices' that a new SD card is installed and up pops a dialog asking about scanning the card for files (or something; I'm reporting this from memory, I don't have my Poodle handy).

The dialog box that comes up is not sized correctly for a 5x00 device (it is way too big to fit on the screen). In addition, it is requiring the use of the touch screen at a point before the touch screen has been calibrated.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a way to force this to be skipped so I can get Opie running?

Thanks,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Rc2 Opie On Poodle?
« on: September 19, 2006, 06:29:21 pm »
I tried installing OZ/Opie RC2 in the usual way and my Poodle boots up to the Opie screen that says 'press screen to continue' and then does not respond.

Has anyone else gotten RC2 to run on a Poodle?

I was careful to delete /home before installation. Is there anything else that I need to do?

I'd really like to try it out!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Altboot For Poodle?
« on: April 30, 2006, 01:01:23 am »
All:

I don't seem to have enough space to do an ipkg upgrade on a fresh 3.5.4 install on my Poodle. Am I doing something wrong?

Is altboot available for the Poodle? Am I correct in assuming that by using altboot I can put root on SD so ipkg would not fill up /dev/mtdblock2?

Has anyone built a cardfs for Poodle yet? I see that they are available for Collie.

(sorry for so many questions)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Altboot For 3.5.4?
« on: April 01, 2006, 11:08:53 am »
I've searched through the feeds and cant find a copy of altboot. Anybody know where to find it?

I'd like to try running GPE on my Poodle.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Terminal
« on: October 17, 2005, 10:02:09 pm »
If I use the 'O' menu and select a terminal from the selection menu, how do I return back to Opie again (or can I?). Once the terminal is open, I can issue commands and so forth, but I thought you could return back to Opie again somehow.

I've tried various things (like exit, ctrl-c, etc) with no success.

I'm sure there is something I'm missing.

Python / Visiscript Question For Python
« on: October 15, 2005, 12:28:35 am »
I'm running Visiscript and Python on a Henteges 3.5.3 Poodle and am not able execute a python script from within Visiscript.

I can open and save script files ok, and I can execute the  scripts just fine from the command line.
But when I load a simple script file and press the 'execute' button (or select run from the menu), nothing appears to happen.

Am I missing a config setting or something?

Thx,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Visiscript For Python?
« on: October 14, 2005, 04:05:21 pm »
I've installed both Python and Visiscript on my Poodle and seem to have some problems trying to execute Python scripts from within Visiscript.

Python scripts from the command line work just fine. However, when I try to execute them from within Visiscript, nothing happens.

I've tried adjusting the config settings but can't seem to find the right combination.

Does anyone have this combination working? I'd like a development environment for creating some Python scripts.

Any pointers?

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / New Forum Tree View?
« on: October 12, 2005, 10:53:37 pm »
Recently, when I open up a topic with a number of responses in it, this web site shows me a tree view of the messages, rather than a sequential list of messages.

Is there some way I can turn this off? I find it more convenient to scroll through a screenfull of messages rather than having to click to read each one.

Thanks for the web site!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Unsorted App Icons?
« on: September 14, 2005, 02:55:19 pm »
Anyone know how to display the app icons in a custom order in Opie?

I'm running the latest Hentges release on a Poodle (Great rom, by the way!)

I prefer to order the icons myself so I can put them in an order that is convenient for me. I've tried playing with Tabmanager, but it doesn't seem to allow re-ordering the list of apps.

Did we lose this ability?

Tnx,

General Discussion / Mount Sd Card Without Sync?
« on: June 15, 2005, 01:56:10 am »
I've tried seaching the archives but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Does anyone mount their sd card with no sync specified in fstab? With 3.5.3 it seems writes to my SD card are painfully slow. I was thinking about turning sync off but I'm worried about reliability issues. Anyone have experience with this?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.3 Root Fs Full On 5600?
« on: June 12, 2005, 07:39:44 pm »
I just installed 3.5.3 on my Poodle and discovered that the root fs '/' is full.

According to df I get:

Code: [Select]
Filesystem           1k-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mtdblock2           22528     22528         0 100% /
/dev/mtdblock3           35840      1464     34376   4% /home
tmpfs                    15000       812     14188   5% /var
/dev/mmcda1              29176     19001     10176  65% /media/card
/dev/mmcda2             212694     30257    171455  15% /media/card1

This shows that there is no more room left in the root partition. Why is that?

How many mtdblock's should there be for the Poodle?
Blocks 2 and 3 don't add up to 64K. Do I need to re-format or something?

Has nybody else seen this and found a solution?

Thanks,

radioz

Open Embedded / Oe Build Problem
« on: March 14, 2005, 09:04:39 pm »
I'm having trouble trying to build oe for Opie. I think I've got everything installed properly based on the Wiki, but when I issue the 'bitbake opie-image' the build fails when trying to run do_configure on 'pkgconfig-native-0.15.0-r1'. The error is:

NOTE: Executing autoreconf --verbose --install --force --exclude=autopoint -I . -I /home/keithg/Zaurus/oe/tmp/staging/i686-linux/share/aclocal
Usage: autoreconf [-f] [-h] [--help] [-m dir] [--macrodir=dir]
[-l dir] [--localdir=dir] [--force] [--verbose] [--version]
[--cygnus] [--foreign] [--gnits] [--gnu] [-i] [--include-deps]
FATAL: autoreconf execution failed.
~

The puzzling thing about the autoreconf command is that the man page does not list the '--exclude' argument. What version of autoreconf am I supposed to have? I recently installed the latest package I could find for my Manrake 10.0 machine (2.59) with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?
