Linux Issues / Qtopia Desktop Issue
« on: June 30, 2005, 07:54:20 am »
I originally posted this in another forum with no response.  Perhaps this is a better place.
---

Alright, after reporting it a few times, I've figured out the problem.... But first, my setup.

I'm running Hentges 3.5.3 with the new OZ kernel update on an SL5000. At home I'm running OSX (10.4) with QtopiaDesktop, and at work, I'm using Ubuntu Linux, also with Qtopia Desktop (1.7 for both).

The problem is that the datebook shows different times in the Zaurus calendar app compared to the desktop. In fact, it's always off by exactly 3 hours (the zaurus being 3 hours forward). Looking into the xml file, it appears that both the Mac and Zaurus are actually displaying the correct time.

The xml file lists the start date as +3 hours from when I book the datebook entry in Qtopia on Linux. If I make an appointment on the Z and sync back, the linux desktop shows the appointment as being 3 hours earlier then it is. The interesting bit is that the desktop's xml file is *IDENTICAL!* to the zaurus', meaning QtopiaDesktop on the desktop is simply off by three hours.

Both the desktops and zaurus have their timezones set to Montreal, so that's not it. It appears that qtopia is the issue. I'm only posting it here since it seems to affect the calendar on OZ, but not the Sharp rom. While OZ is clearly doing the right thing, Qtopia isn't. Any ideas?

Has anyone else run into this problem?

General Discussion / 860 Vs. Sl1000
« on: June 27, 2005, 08:04:59 am »
Well,

It appears that the 860 is only $50 cheaper than the 1000, so I'm looking for experiences with both.  Which one should I buy?  The only difference appears to be that the 3100 has a usb port and 416mhz processor instead of 400.  Am I missing something here?
What are the impressions?  I'll probably run openzaurus or pdaXrom depending on the zaurus I get.  So any help in choosing would be great!

thanks,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Keyboard Death?
« on: June 21, 2005, 10:01:29 pm »
This seems to occur frequently.  My Zaurus suddenly doesn't register key presses from either the keyboard or the magic buttons (addressbook, calendar, arrows, ok, etc.).

I'm running henteges 3.5.3 on an SL5000d.  Every time I suspend, I use the menu (not the keyboard), because of something I read elsewhere.

With this bug I can turn the zaurus on using the cancel key, but I can't successfully do anything keyboard related after that.  Ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Henteges 3.5.3 Rom Issues
« on: June 08, 2005, 08:17:59 am »
All,

I've got a bunch of problems on Henteges 3.5.3, and I'm hoping someone can help out.  All in all it's a great rom, but these issues are killing me.  If it helps, I've got an SL-5000d

1. My Zaurus randomly shuts off, requiring a reboot to make it alive again.  This seems to happen daily, and is really starting to get to me (happened 3 times during my subway ride to work).

2. All my alarms are off.  For some reason my zaurus is in a different time zone than I set it to using the DateTime control panel.  Anyone know where the localtime file is, or what I need to do?  It appears that my alarms are off by about 5 hours, which is where Grenwich is from my current time zone.

3. The Z halts after syncing with Qtopia.  I'm not sure why, but I need to reboot after I sync.    This only happens if I USB sync, which I have to at work.

Any help would be lovely!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sharp Rom Applets On Oz?
« on: June 02, 2005, 08:41:56 am »
Is it possible to get the Sharp ROM applets working on OZ?  What do I do with makecompat to make this happen?  I *really* want to get resumeguard working again!

Folks,

I've read through most of these posts, and gone mailing list hunting.  I'm pretty confused.  I've got the latest 3.5.3 running on my SL-5000d, and have a series of wierd problems.  The first is that all my ipkgs are installing into a packages tree on the media.  For example, installing opie-irc onto sd puts everything in /mnt/card/packages/opt/...  Strange!

ipkg-link always fails because everything is in packages/... and *not* /mnt/card/....  I can't get sharp-compat-libs' makecompat to work at all.  It starts, says it's doing something to each library I'm working on, then it deletes the binary it was working on.

Any help would be awesome!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Pre 3.5.2 Checklist?
« on: March 30, 2005, 09:08:37 am »
Hi there,

I'm looking to finally upgrade my OZ 3.3.5 on my SL5000 and was wondering what I should watch out for.  Is 3.5.2 at the state where I can just install it and live with it, not needing to upgrade packages?  Or, is it like some of the older, now that it's installed you need to upgrade x, y, and z packages.

I've gone through a lot of the postings and am now wondering:

1. Does the camera actually work?  I've seen postings on both sides of the issues, and this one is a dealbreaker for me.

2. This version syncs properly with Linux Qtopia right?  I've read about the Windows sync issues, and seen postings around the web about a couple of Linux sync problems.  I just want to use my existing usbnet connection to sync.

thanks in advance,

For Sale / Wanted / 2 5500 Cradles For Sale/trade
« on: March 15, 2005, 07:33:12 am »
I've got 2 SL5000/SL5500 cradles for sale or trade.  These are cradles only without power supply.  I really don't expect much for them so any offer is valid.
If someone has a usb sync cable, I'd be *thrilled* to trade my two cradles for the one sync cable.  Failing that any offer is a winner.

Email me at chayim_aaaattttt_gnupower__dddddooooootttttt_net (replace the longer strings with "@" and ".", and ignore the underscores).

thanks to any takers in advance!

Software / Zaurus To Ics?
« on: March 11, 2005, 01:45:43 pm »
Folks,

I'm looking for some way to convert my zaurus calendar to an ics file.  zcal used to exist, but I can't actually find a download.  Does anyone else have a version?  I was thinking of making a python module if I have to, but it would be well on the backburner.

Any help would be well appreciated.

Mac Issues / Looking For Zcal Download
« on: March 10, 2005, 02:47:19 pm »
Versiontracker points to a dead link, and the guy's site is done, but I'm looking to download zcal.  I want a programme to dump my mac's ical into the Z and vice versa.  If anyone has other hints that'd be great.

Mac Issues / Qtopia Desktop Osx Issues?
« on: March 03, 2005, 04:27:31 pm »
Is there anybody out there using Qtopia Desktop for OSX?  I'm syncing from my Z to it using my wireless card, and can't get the datebook entries to keep the correct time.  Even though my Zaurus, Linux box at work, and Mac all have the same locale's set in Qtopia Desktop, the mac screws it up.
Anything set for my timezone (Montreal) shows up in GMT on the mac, and not in EST.  To make matters worse, qtopia deletes the timezone entry for these newly synced entries.

I've got OSX 10.3.8, Qtopia 1.7.

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Zaurus Cradle For 5500/5000
« on: March 03, 2005, 04:16:29 pm »
I'm selling my cradle for the 5500/5000 Zaurus since I moved to a usb cable.  It's yours to whomever wants it for best offer ($10?) plus shipping costs.

It ships from Toronto, Canada (and if you're in town we can meet to pickup if you want).  The postal code it would ship from is M5A 1J7 should that make a difference.  I'll ship it using purolator or standard post, your choice.

Should you want it, send email to c-h-a-y-i-m @ g_n_u_p_o_w_e_r DOT n*e*t.  Simple removal of the asterisks, hyphens, and underscores will suffice to reveal my true email address =).

5x00 Hardware / Battery 5000/5500?
« on: January 21, 2005, 08:02:58 am »
Sorry, I first posted this in the wrong place.  Here we go again!

Has anyone ever found a good battery replacement for the SL-5000/5500?  I can buy a new battery, but am really interested in trying something else.  I've noticed that I definitely can't use some of the camera batteries, and that I can't use the battery from the 5600.
Anyone with an idea will be very much appreciated!  As it is, I'm going to walk to the camera store today/tonight and see if we can come up with anything similar.  But your help would be wonderful!
