For Sale / Wanted / Like New C3000
« on: December 16, 2005, 09:21:08 am »
I Just put my C3000 for sale on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sharp-Zaurus-SL-C3000_...1QQcmdZViewItem

It is in excellent, like-new condition. I bought it from Dynamism the end of February 2005. I used it for about 2 months on and off. I decided it was not for me. I replaced it with a life drive, then an HP HX4705, then a palm TX, then back to the life drive after the rom update. Paired it with a new Mac Powerbook and all is perfect now.

The unit has had a screen protector since day one. It was converted to English by Dynamism. It currently has Cacko on it, which I think is much more useful than the Sharp Rom. The only mild wear is on the chrome portion where the screen hinge rotates. I am selling it with a PDair black leather case, imported from Japan, Pilot pentopia 3-1 stylus (much nicer than what it comes with), and an Asus Spacelink Wireless Card. This is a great buy for a tech Guru. I did not have the time for it...

So it is on e-bay if anybody is interested. I was unable to post my own picture since I was not able to find my digital camera. But I would me more than happy to e-mail anyone that wants one soon.
Send me an e-mail if you need more info or to make me an offer... hector.h@mac.com

Thanks for your time guys.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Saying Goodbye To My C3000 Soon!
« on: August 01, 2005, 04:08:26 pm »
Hey guys,

Thanks to everyone for all their help in these forums. I will be thinking about selling my C3000 very soon. I will post in the for sale forum when I am ready.

I just bought a palm Life Drive. By no means does it compare or even come close to what the C3000 is and can do, but for my needs, it is just what I need at the moment.

My C3000 is amazing, I have learned so much, but also spent lost of hours, both when I should have  been working and off hours. I have a Fujitsu S6120 and I do not need a laptop replacement, which is what the C3000 is, or can be.

I need a PDA for everyday use. I was able to install X/Qt and Debian, thanks to Meanie's great work. The screen is just way too small for my aging eyes. Plus the inconvenience of having to carry a wifi card moved me over to palm. I'll never go back to Windows Mobile!

I started with palm PDA's in '99, then moved to Handspring, then Pocket Pc, then Windows Mobile, then Zaurus SL6000, then Zaurus C3000, now I am back to palm.

I will keep my eyes open for a clamshell Zaurus with built in Bluetooth and Wifi, Plus the screen resolution of the SL6000, Plus possibly a bigger screen! I can dream!

Thanks again to all that have helped me. Send me an e-mail if you'd like to persuade me to sell now (perseus7@earthlink.net) or to find out about my experience with all these gadgets. I have PDAir Case, Pentopia Stylus, Asus CF Card, 1gig Sd, 1Gig CF, Screen protector since day one, Box and complete packaging.

X/Qt / Debian On Slc3000 With Cacko3kb1
« on: June 16, 2005, 01:14:44 pm »
Hello,

I know that there are already some x/qt debian topics on this forum. I have read through them but still have some issues. I decided to start this new topic in hopes that a more experienced Z user could help me through them. I am very new to Linux and Z, and no matter how much I read up on both - I can never learn fast enough.

So I installed X/Qt with Debian Script per meanie's site. Formatted my HDD3 to use a loopback and created a swapfile.

then to install I did this:

# zcat zaurus-debian-big-v0.17.tgz | tar xvf - -C /hdd3/debroot
# cd /hdd3/debroot
# pwd > /etc/debroot
# chown -R root:root etc
# chown -R root:root var
# chown -R root:root home
# mkdir -p mnt/card
# mkdir -p mnt/cf
# cp /etc/hosts etc
# cp /etc/resolv.conf etc
# vi startd

#!/bin/sh
### startup commands ###
export DISPLAY=0:0
/usr/bin/icewm-session
### shutdown commands
umount /mnt/card 2>/dev/null
umount /mnt/cf 2>/dev/null
umount /proc

# chmod 755 startd
# cd home
# ln -s ../root root
# mkdir zaurus
# cd ..
# cp -R INSTALL.d/debroot/root/.icewm home/zaurus
# cp INSTALL.d/debroot/usr/local/bin/* usr/local/bin
# cp INSTALL.d/native/bin/* /usr/local/bin
# cp INSTALL.d/native/debroot.conf /etc
# rm -r INSTALL.d

then this, because I could not get sudo to behave with cacko3KB1:

# su
# cp /home/zaurus/.xinitrc /home/root
# chown root:root /home/root/.xinitrc
# cd /hdd3/debroot/home
# cp -R zaurus/.icewm root
# cd /hdd3/debroot
# su -
# xlauncher debian

So here are the problems I am having after the installation....

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Hdd1 Error!
« on: June 09, 2005, 05:41:55 pm »
Could some one please point me to the right web-page for bringing my zaurus back to life?

I updated to the new Japanese rom, flashed with cacko 3kb1. Running fine for several weeks. Tried pocketworkstation, had problems for about a week. I was finally able to install it but could not update or install packages.

So, I decided to reflash and start fresh with the debian setup. Everything went fine but when I tried to restore a back up that had my x/qt setup right, it just stayed at restoring 100%.

So I reboot it and then I had the HDD1 Error!!. So I tried to reflash with cacko 3kb1 again but no cigar, still have the HDD! ERROR!!

I bought this unit from Dynamism, I was never able to get into the service menu to do a nanback up. Should I get this Nanback up from them?

Is it available anywhere else on line? I have the Dynamism back up from when the unit first shipped.

Thanks for taking the time. This machine is awesome but my "manos de fierro" broke it!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Screen Problems?
« on: March 16, 2005, 11:51:23 am »
Hi guys,

Is anyone having screen problems? I have been getting a screen flickering at times while browsing the web and also when running applications. I can only resolve this by rebooting the unit. Then it will do it another day.

I called dynamism and now it needs to be sent to Japan for repair. Is anybody else out there having this problem? This problem started from day one but it would go away plus I thought it was the bright flickering lights in my office. As I have started to use the unit more for reading web pages the problem has grown. It is frustrating to read documents and or web pages when the screen is flickering.

Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem and what steps they took to resolving the issue. I'd hate to be without my Zaurus for a month. I guess I will have to carry my Fujitsu Notebook again.

Thanks.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / New C3000 Owner!
« on: February 24, 2005, 02:00:17 pm »
I am now the very happy owner of a C3000. This thing is a beauty. I used to have an Sl6000 but sold it on amazon in 2 hours. I bought if from Dynamism and they told me the adapter they shipped it with was a us adapter. I opened the box and I see an EA-72 adapter, which is the Japanese adapter right? Is it ok to use this adapter. I think I read on one of the topics that it  will work for a while but then I might face the possibility of a destroyed electronic device due to the adapter.

Has anyone else out there bought from Dynamism? Which adapter did you get? What adapter are you currently using? Should I call Dynamism again?

Thanks for taking the time.

General Discussion / Sl6000 Or C3000?
« on: February 18, 2005, 12:17:09 am »
Hey Guys,

I currently own the SL6000 and love it to death. However, I am currently lusting over the C3000. Could someone give me some imput on which they prefer and why? Anyone out there using both?
I am trying to decide if I should import one from Japan this weekend or if I should wait.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Guys,

I am currently the happy owner of the SL6000. I have had this baby for 3 months now. I am a newbie and have started reading about linux and just recently managed to install suse on my fujitsu s6120 laptop. I still am not able to print and have not figured out the battery settings and power management for when I close the lid. That topic is for another forum though. So here is my dilema:

I love the Sl6000. My only problem is that it is rather big as I carry it everywhere. I want to either keep it for home use, as a tablet internet connection as I have been doing for 3 months now or sell to someone and make them happy for a change. It is in excellent condition. I have had a screen protector since day one. I keep it wraped in one of those cammera soft cloths with velcro corners since I have not been able to find a case. This arrangement works rather well in combination with a small messenger bag. I take very good care of my toys!

I am lusting over the C3000. My boyfriend is in Japan until Monday and I am debating on having him bring me this toy back. Will there be something with built in wireless I should hold out for? Will I save a lot of money by buying it in Japan? Is it better to buy it from an importer like Dynamism in case there is a problem with the unit? I have had numerous palm pilots and pocket pcs and have never had any manufacturing defects and or problems. Plus, I tend to replace these gadgets in 6 moths to a year, and last but not least.. How difficult is it to convert to English. I have read some forums and seems like it should not be too difficult, but do not forget I am a Zaurus Newbie.

Thanks for tanking the time to read and reply.

General Discussion / Linux books
« on: October 29, 2004, 05:46:21 pm »
Hey everyone.

I have had my SL6000l for a week now. And I am in love. I started using palm, then handspring, then pocket pc for business and personal management. I was about to buy the latest HP with VGA but after reading these forums, reviews, and seeing the great deal at Amazon, I changed my mind.

These things are amazing. My Zaurus is a real portable computer, much more portable than my laptop. I have been thinking about installing linux on my laptop. After getting the zaurus I am definitely doing it.

Could some of you recommend some good books for a beginner. I downloaded Linux in a nutshell on to my zaurus. I was also looking at running linux. Also, will these books help me get the most out of my Zaurus? Is there anything specifically for the Zaurus?

Thanks for your help.

6000 - Tosa / kpacman installation?
« on: October 25, 2004, 05:42:43 pm »
Could anyone possibly help me.

I tried installing Kpacman. It installed on my zaurus but when I try to play the game, there is no way to select start game or anything. It has the demo game playing only.

Thanks.
