For Sale / Wanted / [sold] For Sale: Zaurus Sl6000l W/accessories
« on: May 23, 2009, 03:26:27 pm »
This Zaurus 6000L is in great condition. Was used for about a year to surf the web on the bus. Has a Socket CF Bluetooth card (low-profile, doesn't stick out of the machine). Also a 1 GB SD memory card. Has stock OS. Also AC charger and dock.

1 small paint chip (about 0.5 mm) and 1 indentation (about 4 mm) in paint, no crack in casing. Screen has always had a protector, so is in pristine shape.

Would like $250 obo by Paypal. No point shipping outside US due to shipping costs. Please send PM with questions or offers.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Use Of Zaurus As Automotive Bling
« on: September 30, 2005, 10:27:12 am »
Cars made after 1996 (and some before that) have a port for OBD-2 (an emissions control regime) diagnostics. This is located usually below the dashboard. There are many products that can be plugged into this port, that can read real-time data about the car's operation, such as fuel consumption rate, various temperatures, rpms, voltages, etc. One of these is just a box that displays instantaneous data and stores some history, allowing it to act as a trip computer. Others, for those who are data hungry, consist of a connector that plugs into the port one one end and into a notebook or PDA at the other; and software that shows readouts, charts, etc. of the hundreds of vehicle parameters. The connection is either serial or USB.

Now there is some free software for Linux also that does the same thing. So I'm thinking that a Z would make a great host and output device. Would there be a way to do real-time data acquisition through a serial or USB connection? IF so, then we can get at least textual information stored, and finding or writing software to do chart displays would be next.

An easy alternative is to get an older Palm and the appropriate product (some of those available support Palm already), at a cost of around $300 total. But it'd be great if the Z could be used. Any/all thoughts appreciated.

6000 - Tosa / Socket Cf Bluetooth Ersion F Works In 6k?
« on: December 27, 2004, 10:00:01 am »
I've used the following package, per the instructions in the HOWTO.
   bluez-zaurus_2.3-2.4.18d_arm.ipk

Actually, I also tried with packages downloaded from the BlueZ site. So far, the Socket CF Bluetooth version F card is identified correctly by "cardctl ident". However the dtl1_cs kernel module is not loaded automatically when the card is inserted. When I modprobe dtl1_cs, it remains unused. There is no diagnostic info in dmesg. So seeking reports of using this card successfully on a 6k, and the environment you're using.

Also, how do I increase the logging level? Seems like dmesg doesn't record most of the interesting activity that would be useful for diagnosing these things.

Software / How To Read Yahoo! Mail
« on: December 15, 2004, 02:52:19 pm »
I have Opera 7.25. Well, actually it came with the Z. I can't use the Yahoo! Mail buttons and links for for 'Delete', 'Check All', 'Compose', etc. Javascript is turned on.

A poster suggested installing v 7.30, but I can't find a package (ipk?) for the 6k. I couldn't find packages for other browsers either. I don't know if I want to go to another ROM, since that seems to be too much surgery to be able to just read email, not that I understand ipks, ROMs, etc. anyway.

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
