Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Snes Emulator
« on: April 02, 2006, 02:58:55 pm »
Has it been suggested before that the currently available SNES emulator in OZ (snes9x) be replaced?  Snes9x is out of date and no longer in development, and also very, very difficult to configure.

I personally would suggest zSnes as a replacement (it's currently under development, easily configurable with its own menus, and compatible with more roms than any other I know of).  Would it be possible to add that to OpenEmbedded, or does that not work because parts of zSnes are written in assembly?  If all that has to happen is to add the source to OE, I would almost be willing to learn how to do that if it gets me my SNES fix.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Feeds Are Down!
« on: January 19, 2006, 05:30:48 pm »
The feeds at www.openzaurus.org are down...most know this.  Also the feeds at ewi.nl are down, and the other two mirrors (hentges and pdai) haven't been updated since April of 2005.  When will the up-to-date feeds return?

Thanks a lot, OZ/Opie is excellent.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe Filemanager Doesn't Work
« on: May 03, 2005, 03:45:11 pm »
Since I'm a softie windows user who wants to do most computing by point-and-click, I tried gpe-filemanager.  After all of my many attempts to install and reinstall, clicking on the GPE icon does nothing, and running it from the terminal returns:

Code: [Select]
gpe-filemanager: error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: cannot open shared object file
AFAIK (I looked) this is not a seperately packaged lib.  Any ideas how to get this working, or do I wait until 3.5.4?

This is from a clean flash, btw.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Feed Clutter
« on: April 27, 2005, 09:41:23 pm »
Okay.  So it occurs to me that when you put all of the locale files in the same feed with the other programs, it really clutters up some of the feeds and makes them hard to look through.  Might I suggest moving all of the localization files to their own feed (in a later release, of course, so as not to disrupt things too much)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Dgen
« on: April 20, 2005, 09:23:27 pm »
I want to play some Sonic on my Z.  Trouble is that DGEN, the only emulator I know of for the Z, isn't working.  It gives me a library error:
Code: [Select]
dgen: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've searched the forums and checked every thread listing this error (mostly talking about cacko rom or kismet on the 6000), and tried as best I can to implement the fixes reccommended in those.  Still no emulator.  Does this work for anyone else, or does anyone know how to get it working?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / I Need A (full) Backup Utility
« on: March 10, 2005, 09:11:08 pm »
I need a full backup utility for my now very stable and satisfactory installation of OZ 3.5.2/Opie.  Unfortunately, the included backup/restore utility hasn't implemented full backup yet.  I think I should be able to backup things using tar and gzip to archive them on my SD card, but in order to do so I need to know what directories should and should not be included in said archive.

I know I'll need to archive the following:
/mnt/ram
/opt
/lib
/etc/profile

Any others?  I want this archive to be able to as completely as possible restore the state of a system which has had to be reflashed.  If there is another utility for the Z that does this better, I'll try that before I start mucking around myself with archives that overwrite system files when extracted.  Thanks!

Note: as a temporary measure to hold me (and everyone else) over until the Opie backup utility is fully functional, I might write an opie-sh wrapper for this.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie-sh Doesn't Work.
« on: February 12, 2005, 01:46:25 pm »
I installed opie-sh (to /mnt/ram) and did ipkg-link.  The opie-sh tab shows up now, along with opie-sh-howto, but opie-sh-howto doesn't run (the busy indicator appears, then disappears), nor does my opie-sh-snes script, installed via the ipk.  I think this is a problem with opie-sh, but nobody else seems to have a problem with it, as I can't find any help on the forum.

The error message (from the terminal)
Code: [Select]
opie-sh-howto.sh: 18: opie-sh: not found
SNES9X works fine, now if only I can get this opie-sh thing worked out, I can have some serious fun

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sl-5500 Connectivity And Installation Woes
« on: February 05, 2005, 09:25:22 pm »
Hey all,
I am new to O.Z., and only a dabbler in Linux in general, thus my need for n00b help.  I own a Zaurus SL-5500, which I have recently flashed to OpenZaurus 3.5.2.  I love the stability and quickness of the interface, the themes, the (supposedly) better out of the box peripheral support, and many other things about OZ.  It even seems more stable than the last OZ version (3.2 "stable") that I tried.

Trouble is I can't install anything.  I would use feeds if I could but I don't have any way of connecting my Z to the internet at all.  I'm at college and I don't have my own computer--I have to use labs *shudder*.  I tried making a package feed in a directory on my SD card, and it works to a degree, but unfortunately, ipkg (both with the Package Manager and through the command line) for some reason can't find libstdc++, even though it is in the package directory and listed in the packages file.

Obviously, without this library, NOTHING works.  I've tried connecting up to the feeds through a friend's computer, but I can't get the Z to sync.  If I can't get this problem solved in a reasonable amount of time, I'm going back to TheKompany.rom, because without being able to install anything, my Z is worthless.  I really want to stay with OZ.  I look forward to your replies.  Thanks.

- Ian
