Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Updated Hentges Kernel On Poodle
« on: November 12, 2006, 12:28:31 pm »
I see that there are altboot images and an updated kernel for Hentges on poodle, but no flash initrd images. How can I take advantage of the updated kernel while using altboot with an ext2 loop image on SD? If I just flash the new kernel it panics on boot saying it cannot mount the root partition on unknown-fs.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Qpe-gaim And Aim Mobile
« on: October 13, 2006, 11:45:21 am »
As some of you may know the AIM/Oscar protocol has the ability to indicate if a particular user on your buddy list is on a mobile device. I don't know exactly how this works, but I imagine it's some kind of capability bit that is set. Does anyone know if qpe-gaim sets said bit so that your AIM buddies can tell that you are on a mobile device? If not, how hard would it be to make it do that?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Livejournal Client For Opie
« on: October 08, 2006, 12:02:33 pm »
Hi,

I was looking for a Livejournal client for Opie, I found this, which is distributed in source and binary form, but hasn't been updated since 2002. I'm guessing with the toolchain changes that have gone on from SharpROM->OZ and even within OZ itself that these binaries will not work. So, what is the best way to compile this source package without installing the OpenEmbedded environment on my disk? Would that even be possible? IIRC, Opie and Qtopia are compatible on the source level, so it should be possible to compile and run this with minimal or no changes, no?

I am running OpenZaurus/Opie (Hengtes) 3.5.4.2-rc on a Sharp SL-5600.

TIA,
Andrew

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / File Mime Types
« on: October 06, 2006, 04:17:29 pm »
I am trying to play with the PoqetPresenter app for Opie. It's file open dialog says vnd.sun.xml.impress files for the type, so I assume that's the .sxi files for Openoffice.org 1.0. I saved a slide show in that format using Openoffice.org 2.0 on my desktop PC, and transferred it to /home/root/Documents on the Z. Opie, however, identifies this file using application/octet-stream in the Documents tab so it does not show up when PoqetPresenter is looking for application/vnd.sun.xml.impress type files. What's the details of how Opie determines file type and how could I possibly go about fixing this?

TIA.

This is after using the Opie applet to eject the card.

The card isn't working properly, it appears to initialize but it can only scan, connection attempts time out with an I/O error. It is a Belkin Bluetooth CF card,

Code: [Select]
root@poodle:/etc/bluetooth# cardctl info
PRODID_1="CF CARD"
PRODID_2="GENERIC"
PRODID_3=""
PRODID_4=""
MANFID=0279,950b
FUNCID=2

It is identified as a 'Compaq iPAQ Bluetooth Sleeve' by Opie and all initialization is done by pcmcia-cs and friends (e.g. nothing manual).

If I down the hci0 interface ('hciconfig hci0 down') it will not come back up: 'Connection timed out (110)'

It has worked properly in the past, most recently with stock OZ 3.5.4.2-rc2. I'd like to stick with the Hentges ROM because it fixes a number of bugs for me on recent OZ firmwares.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Collie Machine As An Mpd 'remote'
« on: September 30, 2006, 09:48:31 am »
We have a MythTV box hooked up to our stereo in our basement, and one of the things it has on it is the Music Player Daemon (MPD). Currently, to control the music playing, you have to fire up a desktop or laptop computer. What I would like to do is make this a bit less cumbersome and use my old collie machine with a Wifi card as an MPD "remote". To do this, I would like to put the latest kernel on it (2.6) and an Opie or GPE image (whichever has a better MPD client, or web browser for a PHP-based client). I see that the 2.6 kernel is finally available for collie, but it doesn't seem to be available with an associated initrd image--the only 2.6 initrd is a bootstrap image and the Opie/GPE images available from Hentges' web site appear to require the old "crapix" kernels. Does anyone have a suggestion as to an ideal configuration for this kind of setup? Thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Control Of Usb Gadget Selection
« on: September 24, 2006, 01:32:43 pm »
Hi,

I made a short Opie-SH script that allows you to switch between the USB storage class and network class gadgets for your Zaurus (2.6 kernels only). Additionally it allows the selection of the backing device (CF or MMC/SD) for usb-storage. Attached to this post is the script (copy to /opt/QtPalmtop/bin and make executable) and a .desktop file (goes in /opt/QtPalmtop/apps/Opie-SH). The icon might not be on your system but you can adjust as necessary.

It has been tested on an SL-5600 with OpenZaurus/OPIE 3.5.4.2-rc2. Hope it is useful for you.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mozilla Search Plugins
« on: September 19, 2006, 01:55:08 pm »
I wrote up two Mozilla search plugins:

- Package search. Search the feed browser for a package.
- Package details. Get details on a particular package.

Just a note, it would be nice if there was a way, as with Mediawiki sites, that we could go to a details page if that exact package exists or search on that string if not. That would eliminate the need for two plugins.

I did not publish these to Mycroft (repository for Mozilla/Sherlock search plugins) because the feed browser URL appears temporary. If this is wrong I will (or someone else can) publish these to mycroft.

The icon is the same for both plugins, it is scaled version of the Opiezilla logo from http://opie.handhelds.org/

Sorry for the .tar.gz, the forum won't let me upload .src files even though they are just plain markup-style text.

Hope this is useful!

(in case you don't know what to do with these: place the files in the searchplugins/ directory of your browser profile directory and restart the browser) System wide location for Firefox is /usr/lib/firefox/searchplugins.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Network Device Hotplug Seems Not To Work
« on: September 17, 2006, 01:58:27 pm »
Two things are broken for me:

- USB network interface hotplugging. If g_ether is loaded I must manually ifup to be able to SSH into my poodle.

- hotplug for my SanDisk ConnectPlus. My Belkin Bluetooth card is detected and configured, but I must manually modprobe hostap_cs and reinsert the WLAN card for it to work. I cannot get the storage and wi-fi to work simultaneously, so since I have a 1 GB MMC card I want to use the Wi-Fi only for now.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Dosbox On A Poodle?
« on: July 07, 2006, 12:05:32 pm »
I am trying to use DOSbox on my poodle (OZ/GPE 3.5.4; PXA250) and when I run it it segfaults. Is this a hardware problem, does DOSbox not run on this hardware, or should I try recompiling the package for my self?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oe Mirror Dead?
« on: June 22, 2006, 10:30:51 pm »
The Netherlands mirror of OpenEmbedded has been by far the fastest and most up-to-date available to me. However, connections to ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl have been timing out here for several days. I've been able to get some things from other sources but now it's preventing me from using bitbake because it wants to download a specific Qt/Embedded snapshot and can't so it dies. Does anyone know what's going on here (if anything) and when it will be fixed?

Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wpa_supplicant Association Timeout
« on: June 11, 2006, 04:20:12 pm »
I have configured my poodle with OPIE and a SanDisk ConnectPlus to use wpa_supplicant to connect to my WPA-Enterprise network. First, I updated wpa-supplicant,hostap-modules, and hostap-modules-cs. Then, I put the following stanza in /etc/network/interfaces:

Code: [Select]
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
  wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
  wpa-driver hostap

Note the problem I'm going to describe doesn't seem to be affected by the choice of wpa_supplicant driver--either 'hostap' or 'wext' makes it act the same. Putting the card in the machine makes it blink rapidly (loading firmware) and then blink slowly. It is supposed to go solid when associated but this never happens. Running wpa_supplicant manually, or running 'ifup wlan0', gets the following output:

Code: [Select]
root@poodle:/etc/network# wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dwext -dd

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe Sync W/evolution (oz 3.5.4)
« on: May 21, 2006, 02:41:18 pm »
I'm having problems syncing my collie running OZ/GPE 3.5.4 with Evolution, see here for complete details. Basically it looks like an updated libmimedir on the Z might help. I grabbed the update from the feed but it doesn't seem to work any differently when syncing. Does libmimedir have the patch described in that thread now? I tried to build an updated package using BitBake but it built all the dependencies and then failed on the configure step for libmimedir.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpsdrive With Oz/gpe 3.5.4rc
« on: December 11, 2005, 01:35:53 pm »
I have installed GpsDrive on my SL-5500 running OZ/GPE 3.5.4rc. It is very, very slow and frequently freezes the entire system. I haven't been able to configure my GPS yet but is there anything I can do to speed up GpsDrive or is the SL-5500 not powerful enough to run this program well? I have a 32-32 kernel.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Exceptions To Recurring Events
« on: September 21, 2005, 09:01:52 pm »
http://opie-bugs.oszine.de/view.php?id=1636

This was reported several months ago and it seems no one, much less any Opie developers, is aware of this. I am posting this here in the hope that someone who contributes to the Opie project would see it. Exceptions to recurring appointments is an important practical feature that I can't do without, so right now I'm stuck using a Palm Pilot for everyday management and relegating my Z to "fun" stuff like Gaim over Wi-Fi. If someone in Opie-land is already aware of this request, I apologize--I don't mean to pester anyone but rather it does seem no one is even aware that the request exists.

Thanks,
Andrew
