Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Minimum Qpe Packages Needed
« on: November 01, 2005, 01:33:40 pm »
I saw the howto about installing opie and gpe.  It's clear, but I don't want to have the complete gpe environment.  All I need is to start it with gpsdrive. I don't need the desktop, window manager or apps, just the a x session.
Does anyone know the minimum packages who need to be installed?

Thanks

Open Embedded / Rescue Compact Flash

Is there something out there that would act like a knoppix (Znoppix) rescue disk?  It would be nice to be able to recover the mess we do without reinstalling.

5x00 Hardware / Battery Pack For Sl-5600
« on: September 12, 2005, 01:24:30 pm »
I'd like to make a power pack for my 5600 and I would like to know if it is better (less power lost) to plug it into the power plug or into the I/O port (I already have some connectors)?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Kernel Patchs Download
« on: September 08, 2005, 05:01:17 pm »
Where can I find the kernel patches for the zaurus?  Hmm...  more precisely to build the 3.5.3 OZ kernel (2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix).  Is there any place where the kernel developpers put their patches or is it spread around the world?  I'll have some time to put on the kernel (for the zaurus), but I don't want to reinvent the wheel...

5x00 General discussions / Newby Kernel Question
« on: September 06, 2005, 02:07:48 pm »
I just got my SL-5600 (last week) and I was wondering why we only have a very old kernel (2.4.18 was released in feb. 2002).  I saw the is some one "working" on the 2.6 kernel, but there is to much feature missing.  Wouldn't it be better to have a more recent kernel?  I know the "if it works, don't touch it" philosophy, but some time the "if it works, why not break it, just for the fun of it" can be interesting if we can have some new features, optimisation, fixes, more hardware support, ....

Software / Mapping Application
« on: August 29, 2005, 11:42:38 pm »
I would like to know if there is a mapping software for the Zaurus (SL-5600).  I would like to be able to have a map (or multiple maps) of satellite view with good precision and be able to know where I am.  I have a GPS device (fix on my offroad motocycle) and I don't want to connect it to the Zaurus, just take the current position and enter it in the program.  I already used GPSDrive with my laptop, but when I import waypoints from my GPS, they have an important offset.  I got good output from www.gpsvisualizer.com and would like to have that kind on information with me in the woods.  The basic maps from GPSDrive are useless since they do not show the main roads (usualy in durt or sand) and the lake where I go in the north of Quebec.

So, is there a little application for me?  Or something I can look at to "make" my application?
