Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / 4G Antenna Location
« on: September 17, 2020, 01:49:39 am »
Hi,

Can somebody please confirm exactly where the 4G antennas are located on the Cosmo?

I know they are at the ends of the device, but are they under the keyboard or behind the main screen glass (in the lid)?

Thanks,

Alastair

Cosmo Communicator - Android / V19 Firmware Battery Life
« on: May 11, 2020, 08:03:05 pm »
I have resisted updating my Android firmware and am still on V19.

Up until a few days ago, I always got a day's battery life - even with CODI enabled.

Now if I leave it unplugged sitting there doing nothing (WiFi on as normal), I can pick up my phone and it isn't responding. Turns out the battery has drained and it has turned itself off. I estimate it is losing 25% charge in a little over 2 hours.

I haven't changed anything with the setup on the phone - nor have I installed any new apps.

Any ideas or is this just another Planet quality & reliability issue?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Hairline crack in display case
« on: December 20, 2018, 02:22:28 am »
Just noticed my Gemini has developed a small hairline crack on the top edge of the display/lid plastic housing. Will try and post a photo.

No idea how this could occur, as I am very careful with my Gemini (always stored in a case and never dropped).

Has anybody else's Gemini suffered a similar fault?

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / A good companion device for Gemini
« on: November 13, 2018, 05:20:46 pm »
Just spotted this on Indiegogo:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/celtrix-...ce/x/13629384#/

Would add phone functionality to a WiFi only Gemini. Could also allow a single SIM card to be shared amongst different devices, e.g. Gemini, other Android phones or tablets.

It isn't easy to swap the SIM card from the Gemini when you want to use a smaller phone for a day, so this would be an easy way to swap between using different devices, but have them all attached to the same phone number. I know that is what eSIM is for, but not many devices come with an eSIM and the only devices currently supported here in Australia are Apple watches.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Car Mount
« on: October 03, 2018, 08:06:59 am »
Has anybody found a decent car mount for the Gemini?

I'd be interested to know if the Brodit car mounts for the Psion 5 are suitable for use with the Gemini.

Gemini PDA - Android / Bluetooth Caller ID
« on: August 20, 2018, 11:43:43 pm »
Hi,

I've got a few BlueTooth (BT) connected smartwatches and hands free units that are successfully working with the Gemini.

What I am seeing is that they always connect to the Gemini, but sometimes the caller ID is not being displayed correctly on the BT device. Most of the time I get the name of the caller displayed, but sometimes Gemini just sends the number for the same caller. Once the device is connected, Gemini will behave the same way for all callers.

If Gemini is just sending the number for all callers, the only way I can get it to start sending the caller's name is to disconnect and reconnect the BT device.

Is this a known issue with this version of Android or is it another Gemini firmware bug?

Thanks,

Alastair

Gemini PDA - Android / PIP Camera Mode
« on: August 10, 2018, 11:55:56 pm »
I know it is a bit of a stupid feature, but whenever I use the Picture In Picture mode (PIP) with the rear facing camera, the photos get squashed horizontally. Has anybody else noticed this? Is there a fix for it?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Mono not Stereo Speakers
« on: May 27, 2018, 08:28:30 pm »
I see members of the Facebook group have reported that the Gemini speakers output sound in mono and not stereo. I have confirmed this with my unit. Not a big issue for me, as the headphone and BT sound is definitely stereo.

The Gemini speakers aren't exactly HiFi, so I doubt it would improve the experience if the sound was actually output in stereo......

Gemini PDA - Android / Not showing root status
« on: May 11, 2018, 08:20:47 pm »
Hi,

I flashed my Gemini with the root Android firmware, but it doesn't appear to show as rooted when I run any root checker from the Play Store. Is there anything else that need to be done to enable root status?

Thanks.

Gemini PDA - Android / Microsoft Office Not Starting
« on: May 09, 2018, 11:22:10 pm »
Hi,

I'm running the latest rooted stock Gemini Android. I successfully installed and could run Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint.

However, as of today I noticed that none of these apps will start anymore. The splash screen is displayed, but then disappears - no error message shown. I tried restarting the Gemini, uninstalling, restarting & re-installing, but still the same issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Alastair

Gemini PDA - Android / Skype Video Calls

Has anybody managed to get the built-in camera working with Skype or is this the same problem as with Google Authenticator?

Gemini PDA - Android / Hide or remove navigation bar
« on: April 27, 2018, 06:20:41 pm »
My Gemini order is now locked and should hopefully arrive within a couple of weeks.

Just searching through the various forums on the web (including this one) and cannot see if anybody has worked out a way to hide or remove the navigation bar on the right of the screen to recover the valuable real estate.

If you type "remove android navigation bar" into Google, there appears to be plenty of solutions listed. Has anybody successfully deployed any of these on the Gemini?

Thanks!

Alastair
