Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Flashtool on Windows 11

I've just successfully flashed my Gemini, but to get it to get the FlashTool to recognise the Gemini I had to disable memory protection in Windows 11:

Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation

After a Windows reboot the Gemini could be flashed. Just reporting here in case anyone else has the same problem in future.

To turn on Core Isolation again afterwards I had to remove the FlashTool drivers (slightly technical, but a quick google solved the issue)

I've got this enabled on Android, and it's helping me stay focussed when writing. For those that have Sailfish installed, would you mind taking a look at the display settings to see if this is supported?

Reaching out for suggestions.

Perhaps a console only linux install, and use VIM? Am getting nostalgic for the way I was able to write and stay focussed on my Psion, without the twitchy distractions that I get with modern mobile devices (e.g. checking email or news feeds).

Gemini PDA - Android / Recording voice memos

I'd like to record voice memos 'on the go' without having to open the Gemini each time. A great way to do this would be to press the silver button on the right side of the Gemini (I don't use Google Assistant, so that can be disabled) to start recording, and then press again to stop, with an audible sound to indicate recording, and another on the second press when recording ends.

Anyone remember the recording buttons on the side of the Series 5?

I'm guessing this would require some custom app development to implement, but if there's away to achieve this using existing apps I'd be interested to know.

Gemini PDA - Android / Multi boot to Android 8.1 only

I currently have a multi-boot setup for Android and Sailfish.

I'd like to go to a single boot Android 8.1 only firmware, but I'm not sure whether I can go ahead and follow the instructions here http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/G...droid_8_Upgrade - or wait for the multi-boot partition tool to support 8.1 and choose a single partition android - http://support.planetcom.co.uk/partitionTool.html

Any recommendations?

Gemini PDA - Sailfish OS / Linux Flashing Guide

Based on the last indiegogo announcement, I'm trying to use the Flashing guide (http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Linux_Flashing_Guide) to get Sailfish installed.

Where I'm getting stuck is the point where I run the Flash Tool - the 'linux' and 'Boot 2' p]aths are unchecked:

 I can see that the "sailfishos" directory is inside the base firmware directory, and contains both of the .img files.

This is the partition configuration:

Any ideas? The base firmware folder structure containing the scatter file and the sailfish OK looks like this:

I can't seem to find the Gemini app bar on the Play Store - any idea where I can download it? I couldn't see it on the planetcom.co.uk site either.

Gemini PDA - Android / How to keep previous app open after closing the lid

I've noticed that when making notes (e.g. using the Notes app), after closing and re-opening the lid, the device goes to the "home" screen with all the app icons, rather than keeping my app in memory, to let me carry on where I left off.

Is there a way to tell android to re-open the latest app, rather than going to the home screen?

Related to this would be a way to to prevent the app bar from automatically displaying when the device is opened.

Edit: Simply turning the device on and off using Fn+On/Off works as expected (i.e. the app remains open). Closing the lid does something different - I wonder why? I thought the app bar might have something to do with it, so unistalled as a test, but still the "home" screen is displayed when the lid is opened.

When my Gemini is open, I've noticed quite a strong aroma - somewhere between plastic and chemical. Quite similar to the smell of a firelighter. Possibly from the layer beneath the keys.

I've had lots of gadgets over the years - this is a stronger smell that I've ever noticed before.

If you have a Gemini, do you notice the same?

Gemini PDA - Android / Any tips for making the Gemini battery last as long as possible?

I'd like to take my Gemini on some trips where I'll be away from charging points for long periods (e.g. multi-day hiking and cycling trips). I'll be carrying an external battery to charge the device, but I'd like to reduce the power consumption as much as possible. Here are the things I'm planning to do:

• Switch to airplane mode - no bluetooth, wifi or cellular
• Keep the screen brightness down
• Switch on android's "Battery Saver" mode
• Close any open apps which are not required

Are there any other ways to keep the battery usage as low as possible?

Gemini PDA - Android / How to disable Google Assistant keyboard shortcut?

Hitting Fn + Space brings up the Google Assistant, and when I'm typing I sometimes accidentally trigger it. Any idea how to prevent it from opening when pressing Fn + Space?

Removing the keyboard shortcut would be better that disabling the application completely - I tried Planet's keyboard app, but couldn't see how to remap shortcuts....

PC mentioned on the Indiegogo site comments that the keys are designed to be removed - I think by placing a thin knife under the key and then popping it off.

I have a couple of keys which are tilted and would like to see if I could fix them... also I would like to try to make the space bar more sensitive.

Has anyone tried removing keys?

Gemini PDA - Android / Gemini fast unlock?

Hello all, first post here. Early backer in the UK, and have had the device for a week. What a machine!

To my question - does anyone know a quick way to unlock the device?

I'd like to unlock my Gemini via the keyboard, without having to touch the screen. Currently I  open the Gemini, swipe up on the screen, enter a keycode, tap the "tick" icon, and then I'm in.

Any ideas?
