General Discussion / Can't View Forum With Desktop Opera Browser
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:25:28 pm »
I thought this was just a cache issue initially, but I have tested it on my Mac and on a Windows Computer at work.

Opera Version 9.22

When accessing the forum, Opera gives the following error, Firefox works fine on both platforms

You tried to access the address https://oesf.org/forum/, which is currently unavailable

Anyone else had this problem?  I searched the forums but didn't find any other reports.

Off Topic forum / Zaurus Compatible Gps Phones
« on: September 02, 2007, 09:21:50 am »
I would like to get a GPS enabled phone that I can use as a GPS receiver for my Zaurus.
Does anyone know of any GPS phones that will allow NMEA protocol to be used by the Zaurus over bluetooth?

I love the form factor of my 3100 but sometimes it would be great to have a larger screen (for reading/annotating PDFs).  Vgaout is trcicky to say the least so I have been looking for the most stripped down screen that could be coupled to the zaurus....

The closest I have found is the Viewsonic V210 or V212
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/mobilewi...splay/index.htm
It has a 10" touch screen and 4 hours battery life.  It uses a wireless interface and has a CF port (V212). Weighs about 1.3kg

Sounds perfect... but it runs windows CE and as far as I can see it does not support a VNC client program

Not sure if it's hackable (runs strongarm 400mHz) and I haven't been able to find any sites saying that anyone has tried.

Is this likely to be feasible?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bluetooth In R198
« on: June 18, 2007, 09:14:49 am »
I am trying to get PPP over bluetooth going in R198,
however, the PPP settings program does not scan for bluetooth devices.
dmesg shows my socket low power card gets recognised.

I am trying to set it up manually, basically by editing the config files with my DUN and trying from there but I am getting the error
/dev/rfcomm0 not found
when I try to connect.

Am I barking up the wrong tree... anyone got it going?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Long Pause In Pdaxii13 Loading
« on: June 16, 2007, 02:32:06 am »
I have a bit of a problem when loading pdaxii13, it pauses for about 5 minutes at:
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
and another couple of minutes at:
start check battery!

What is happening?  I have run fsck from the service menu and repaired any errors but it doesn't seem to change this very long delay.  I believe it happened from the first install of pdaxii13.  The microdrive light goes on intermittently during the pause.

Anyone else having the same thing?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Straw Working In Chroot Debroot On Pdaxrom
« on: May 02, 2007, 06:48:36 am »
For those interested in a very versatile RSS aggregator,
straw works well running in chroot debian.

I used the backport because newer versions require kernel 2.6, here is my /etc/apt/sources:

deb http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free
deb http://nonUS.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main
deb http://www.backports.org/debian/ sarge-backports main contrib non-free

Then
apt-get update
apt-get install straw

I had a locales problem initially which gives the error:
Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

This can be fixed by:
export LC_ALL="en_AU"
make sure to have the correct locale installed with
apt-get install locales

I am not sure how to make this setting persistent --- any ideas what the best way to implement such environment variables is in chroot debian?

Then just run
Crd bash
straw

It runs very quickly and works for all sites I've tried (including slashdot, which for some reason doesn't work with liferea)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Beta Testing R198
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:33:45 am »
I am interested in trying out r198 and I have read the posts but have a few questions before I take the plunge.  I am comfortable with tweatking the system but am not quite as proficient as the venerable masters of the zaurus!
I also need my system to at least connect to the net and be able to run, kopi firefox, sylpheed and debian (for htdig and apache).

1) Will chroot debian run with the 2.6 kernel, I am dying to get rekall and straw going?

2) Does USB connection for data transfer still work?

3) Is firefox and java plugin working, I don't see them in the r198 feed?

4) Is wifi and bluetooth PPP working (I have socket CF Wifi and bluetooth cards)?

5) Will kismet work with the socket driver (I currently have a patched driver that supports monitor mode?

6) I have read that flashing back to beta3 can be problematic, will I be able to recover my previous install?

7) Is the configuration of the keymap to support the CE-RH2 the same as in beta3?

I know they're a bit of a jumble of questions, but I guess they may be of interest to those thinking of flashing.

My system is a c3100 and the microdrive is divided into three partitions:
/dev/hda1 - swap, /dev/hda2 ext3- programs and debroot, /dev/hda3 FAT - data

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Starting Ppp From Command Line
« on: April 18, 2007, 08:02:34 pm »
I have a query regarding using suspend/resume mechanism in pdaXrom.

How do I start a ppp connection from the command line instead of using the ppp dailer?
I am wanting the zaurus to connect automatically via my mobile phone when it resumes.

I now it's going to be a bit of a battery hog but it seems that I always connect when resuming anyway

Software / Kdepim Synchronization With Web
« on: April 09, 2007, 05:58:23 am »
Well, after much mucking about,
I have a sync solution which works with an online calendar server and is bidirectional.

It uses kdepim 2.2.7 (version matters as ical definition has changed)
and thyme 1.3, an online calendar server available from http://www.extrosoft.com,
if you'd like to use my calendar server instead of installing it, send me a PM.

The beauty of the method is that changes are synchronised nicely and it's all ical so can be accessed from Firebird, Apple iCal etc...

Ok, install kdepim, start kopi (after reset) and edit the settings in >>Synchronize>>Configure
   1.  Change your device name to zaurus
   2. Make a new profile, I called it thyme
   3. Set the Profile Kind to "Remote File"
   4. enter the following commands (I used wget first, then curl but I'm sure you could just use curl)

Pre sync (download)
   cd /tmp && wget  --user=USER  --passwd=PASSWD -N http://myserver.com/thyme/remote/ical.php/2/zaurus.ics

Local temp file
   /tmp/zaurus.ics

Post sync (upload)
   curl -u USER:PASSWD -T /tmp/zaurus.ics http://myserver.com/thyme/remote/ical.php/2/zaurus.ics

see: http://greenant.net/portal/greenant/wiki/K...ACalendarServer for a full description and links to the package

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fbvncserver Crashes On 3100
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:34:28 am »
I tried using fbvncserver from meanie's build [fbvncserver-c3000_0.9.4-0.2_arm.ipk] today and although I am sure I had it working at one stage, it now gives me the following error on connection and then quits:

fbvncserver: relocation error: fbvncserver: undefined symbol: __divsi3

I have tried from 3 different clients on 2 different machines to connect, ie:
chicken of the vnc
xtightvncviewer
vncviewer

They all open the connection but quickly close as the server quits.

Any ideas?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cf Audio Interface
« on: February 07, 2007, 08:02:57 am »
I am really keen to get this device running with my Z

http://www.core-sound.com/pdaudio-cf/1.php
[img]http://www.core-sound.com/images/PDAudio-CF-7a_100w.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

It is a 24bit 96kHz stereo digital interface which I have used with an iPAQ in the past.  Awesome for field recording with a portable A/D converter and good Mic

There is an ALSA driver available at http://www.core-sound.com/pdaudio-cf/9.php
but the hardware developer says that he doesn't think it will work at full speed:

Sorry, PDAudio-CF will not work on any of the Zaurus PDAs.  They don't have
the necessary CF card interface bandwidth.

Is this true?
Will it be possible to get this going in pdaXrom with ALSA support?

Software / Funambol For Zaurus
« on: December 27, 2006, 12:51:24 am »
I have been following the development of funambol for a few months and it looks like it's maturing into a very useful product.
http://www.funambol.com/opensource/downloads.html

Is there any plans to create a funambol client for the zaurus?

I am not a programmer, but would be happy to help with documentation, compiling time etc....

Frank
