Zaurus - pdaXrom / Makeing the Z a nice mp3 player

And if I'm running fluxbox on it's own I can just change the menu in .fluxbox! Silly me.

Yep. You're welcome!

I'm using fluxbox (with pdaxrom rc5) and I'm wondering if there's something different that I should be doing to make it work- ie should I be changing something other than xmms.desktop to make it work?

If you're using vdesk instead of Matchbox Desktop, and running xmms from there, you need to change the 'Command:' line in ~/.vdesk/XMMS.lnk, not xmms.desktop.

As I also expected, Ctrl (Calendar), Fn and R... This forces a page refresh though.... it works fine on the menu btw.
Hmm. It does work for me. How are your mouse button modifier keys mapped?

Also regarding Firefox, does anyone know how to hit Ctrl and + to increase text size?
Ctrl, Fn & R, as you would expect. I have the mouse button modifiers mapped to the Kanji keys, not Fn and Shift, though. I don't think that would make a difference, but I suppose it might.

After reading this I decoded an from the OZ d/l for a 5600 and it's target is 'zImage' not 'zImage.bin'... the C-7xx may be different.

Quite possibly. I'm sure it always used to be just zImage, for the 5500 anyway. But Mickey definitely says 'zImage.bin' (actually, he doesn't capitalise the 'i', but we'll forgive him that) in that other thread, and that seems to have worked. Of course, that's talking about the C700, and I don't know how far the 5600 and C700 differ in terms of flashing. The originally confusing instructions whose naming scheme Mickey contradicts conflate the two. *shrugs* Let's hope some sort of messing around with the filename fixed grog's problem.

You only need 3 files:
Uh huh. And using zImage.bin rather than just plain zImage is the change that will solve your problem (the documentation is confusing -- see this thread). The .img files on there are, I believe, unlikely to hinder the ROM being flashed.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Live Cd For Developpers

What is ZFR?

ZFR is the PDA-orientated GNU/Linux distribution under Free OS [FSF? -- perhaps it's just my ignorance, but I'm not sure what 'Free OS' refers to, other than GNU/FSF].

It acts as a traditional live CD to which has been added the necessary applications for synchronisation and application development for your favourite PDA.

Why ZFR?

The only existing distribution to date, to my knowledge, is the one on Sharp's website. That distribution seems to be no longer developed, and is relatively poor. It acts in fact as a Linux demo distribution to which has been added an ARM cross-compiler. The pdaXrom team mention on their site that a distribution will see the light of day with their SDK... In short, no distribution provides all that is necessary to work effectively and completely with its PDA. This must be remedied! Being limited to a particular 'ROM' or to a hardened developer profile is out of the question!

Who makes ZFR?

ZFR was created through the initiative of your servant (Titeuf) on behalf of the Community of Francophone Users of PDAs under Free OS -- ZaurusFR.

It's an open distribution in which everyone can participate, if they wish.

How do you participate?

It's very easy, and there are many ways of participating (debugging, documentation, proposals, etc.). Everyone is invited to bring their personal touch, all ideas are welcome. For the moment, just email A forum is expected sometime.

How is ZFR built?

The ZFR live distribution is based not on Debian (due to fashion!) but on LFS 5.1 and BLFS 5.0.

The CD contains all the utilities needed to recreate a new CD. Nevertheless, in order not to proceed in every direction and to profit from all your ideas, it is recommended that you propose your modifications/additions [to ZaurusFR] so that they may be included in the 'official' distribution.

[My French is not the greatest; there may be some mistranslations there.]

So this is a CD you boot up from just in order to compile for the Zaurus, or other Linux PDA? Seems a little like overkill. Or am I missing something?

I ended up doing a xhost + on the zaurus to allow anyone to display apps on it.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks. And now Nictotine is running on my 5500, from my G4, and, actually, it manages to fit the screen pretty well. Mostly. It's much better rotated, of course.

Yes normal X11 apps will display under GPE.

Great. So, samac, if you need to use Abuse, switching to GPE is the easiest option.

I ssh'd to a Debian system and set my DISPLAY to be the Zaurus and ran xclock, gnome-terminal and firefox for fun.

Out of curiosity, how did you do that? The version of ssh that comes with OZ (3.5.1 at least) doesn't support the -X option.

You should be able to use GPE on OZ 3.5.x. Though I'm not sure if X programs need any kind of adjustment to work in GPE, I don't think they do.

Sharp ROMs / How To Debug Wifi Problem?

Hmm, I'm sleepy so this may not turn out to be a great deal of help, but have you tried the following?

Code: [Select]
> ifup wlan0
Ignore that. That was dumb. I've been using OZ. I don't think Cacko uses ifup/ifdown.
Code: [Select]
> ifconfig wlan0 upShould do the same thing. But try maslovsky's suggestion. It's way better.

Might tell you a little.

I don't remember having to add anything to get my Symbol card recognised (although I've been using it for almost a year and I may well have forgotten); I think the Symbol/Socket card was one of those originally recommended by Sharp so it should be recognised just fine.

Are you using WEP, fir? The standard network setup app has some problems with converting text keys to hex. It got mine wrong by one digit. Try using the hex version of the key. -- A bad key will give you the 'Connection was failed' message.

It also sometimes helps to eject and reinsert the card. Lord knows why. But in your case, I'm betting it's the WEP.

Cxx0 Hardware / Operational Issues

It should be fine. I've had my C750 on with the wireless card inserted and on, but not actually doing much, for a couple of days at a time with no problems. My 5500 has been on in a similar state for around a week or so continuously in the past and that's been unproblematic as well. The only possible heat problem as far as I can tell would be from the wireless card if it's active all the time, but I can't see it being at all destructive even then, particularly for a C860, with all that extra air in the battery cover to cool it down.

More pertinently, how would you attach a USB hard drive to a C860 while there's a wifi card in the CF slot? -- Unless you're planning on using one of those SD wifi cards, I guess.

Hmmmm. It should do! That\'s where they are kept on my C750 with the Sharp ROM. That should be the same as yours. Don\'t worry if the authorized_keys file isn\'t there. It\'s not by default, not until you make it so that you can add some keys.
