France / Recherche Quelqu'un Capable De Réparer Un Zaurus

Salut,

Quote

Hopefully I'll be getting the USB VGA out adaptor and the new retractable power/sync cable as well
I already have the retractable power/sync cable, but what's this USB VGA out adaptor you're talking about? Any links? It may be a nice addition to my Zaurus stuff...

Does the latest Tetsu kernel release break anything with the latest Cacko?
No, I think it's included in the Cacko release (it is in the latest C3000 beta version by Iamasmith anyway).

Quote
What benefits are there other than the over/underclocking capability?
The top of Tetsu's page, although not quite easy to decipher, gives plenty of hints about what's been fixed/improved in Tetsu's kernel, for instance on the C3100:

Patch 01: under/overclocking
Patch 02: voltage adjustment (useful for overclocking, I think)
Patch 03: patch for SIGSTOP problem
Patch 04: UNICON patch?
Patch 05: patch to allow variable pressure on the digitizer (useful for drawing applications)
... et caetera.

So it's not just for overclockers, it's more or less the 'state-of-the-art', optimized kernel on Zaurus platforms. Of course, since the patches are freely availables, you can also build your own kernel with every option you like!

Quote
Does pdaXrom or Cacko offer any over/underclocking at all whatsoever right now?
Can't say for pdaXrom, as it was not yet mature enough to be usable on my C3000 last time I tried to have a look, but the Cacko ROM has an applet to handle under/overclocking, as far as I can remember, though I don't think it was included in the stock ROM. A forum search should give you more details, there's been a thread on this in the past, I think the overclocking part was included in the battery/memory applet.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.4 Rc Bug & Work-around List

Have a word with hrw, he's our resident bluetooth expert. You might find it easier to talk to him on irc - #openzaurus is probably the best channel for this conversation.
Will try to get in touch with him, but I almost never do irc. Way too much time consuming, generally, I prefer email & web browsing, even if irc is faster to get things fixed.

Is this not present on the Opie image? Take a look here: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16224
No, the Opie ROM lets me suspend the C3000 Zaurus, as far as I could tell, using the on/off button.

Quote
BTW your wifi card should also work 'out of the box' with GPE; was there no browser built-in in the GPE image? gpe-minibrowser or something like that?
Didn't even have a chance to test it: I had to go away from home, and that's when I discovered the suspend bug (impossible to suspend the zaurus, so I took it "as is" with me). Later I realized that it was still switched on after more than a couple of hours, and the GPE ROM was quickly replaced by something else.

I'll do some more testing in a few days/weeks, as soon as I have finished moving house to another city!

Which kernel is this with? If it's 2.6.x I'm sure RP will be interested to hear from you on #irc (but if it's 2.4.x then I think you may have to look into it yourself as no-one really wants to delve into that and the push is to get 2.6.x working well on all of the Zaurus devices)
I'm pretty sure it was a 2.6 kernel, but since I've reflashed Opie and Sharp ROM since, I can't tell for sure. Will reflash GPE in the near future and come back with details... (sorry, but I need a working Zaurus this week end for a trip!  )

I've seen that post, but since I'm working on a C3000, not a 5xxx, I've not pushed the matter any further...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.4 Rc Bug & Work-around List
« on: November 25, 2005, 03:24:29 am »
Hello,

Just tried the latest C3000 ROM images, with both Opie and GPE. I'm pretty much impressed by the result, but as mentioned in the original message of this thread, this is a release candidate only, and indeed we're far from really usable stuff.

I couldn't play very long with it, and so far have certainly not uncovered any new bug, but here's what I've found out so far, in case it helps any other C3000 owner to decide if this release candidate is worth installing or not:

1) GPE seems interesting, but there's that infamous suspend bug, so the C3000 can't be suspended at all, neither using the on/off button, not by typing "apm --suspend" in a console. End of the story as far as I'm concerned. I need to take my Zaurus with me and play with it for some time if I'm to find out anything usefull to report, and this obviously won't be the case until I can go away from the electric outlet on the wall...

2) Opie is more usable. I was able to connect to my home Wifi network using a D-Link DCF-660W CF card out of the box, it works great with WellenReiter as well, and using the builtin browser I loaded the google page in no time. Nice!

3) I was able to play a bit longer with Opie, and discovered the (already reported) bug with the Mail application not creating the proper folder structure for POP accounts, so I couldn't get it to work at all. Too bad, as I'll be away from home for a couple of days and really need access to my email on the road...

4) This leads me to my last "report": I was soooo happy to have finally got my Socket Rev G Bluetooth CF card to work with the Sharp ROM (didn't work with the Cacko 1.23 beta for C3000), that I've been disappointed to see it doesn't work with Opie 3.5.4-RC. I tried to hack my way through the bluetooth config files, but whatever I do, despite the serial_cs module being loaded in memory when I insert the card, hcitool dev always return an empty line. So all in all, the bluetooth stuff doesn't work for me, and that's another thing preventing me to connect to the net while I'm away from home...

So far, the Opie ROM looks very promising, though. I'm reverting to the stock Sharp ROM for now, and will try to find out again the exact config that works for my Bluetooth card, so that I may file a bug report for it in the Opie bugtracker. I just hope that someone can find quickly what's wrong with the Mail application, and if I can have the browser, the mail application along with my WiFi and Bluetooth connections, then I'll keep Opie on my Zaurus and try to help as much as I can ironing out the bugs I can find.

Congratulations anyway for this promising RC release, and all the work already done!

FYI : This is a known problem in the bugtracker : http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458
Hmmm... This bug reporting tool is a bit tricky to use... I did a search, restricting the results to the Zaurus platform, but that bug wasn't reported. And there are far too many results if you don't restrict the search a bit... <sigh>

No solution yet I'm afraid
Yes, it seems so. Not quite ready for the final release... OTOH, waiting a bit more can't hurt! Thanks for the pointer, anyway.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mail App Ni Oz/opie 3.5.4-rc-c3000
« on: November 24, 2005, 02:58:55 pm »
Hi all,

I've flashed the latest 3.5.4-RC of Opie/OZ, and I'm impressed overall by the result.

My (new) WiFi CF card (D-Link DCF660W) is recognized out of the box, it also works like a charm with WellenReiter (bundled with the ROM). Nice!

On the other hand, my Socket Rev G. Bluetooth CF card isn't recognized, but I've not done much to search that topic.

More concerning to me, I've stumbled on the (known) bug where creating a POP3 account in the mail application causes an error (problem creating the correct folders, it seems), so the mail application is totally useless for now.

Does anyone know what's the expected folder/file structure in the Mail application, so that I may create it manually and try to make the application work until it gets fixed?  (Yeah, I know, I should be trying to fix it myself, just too short of free time to do this right now...)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe & Apm Issues On C3k
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:43:50 pm »
I've tried to flash my C3k with gpe-image-spitz-20051021200253.rootfs.tar.gz, and it does boot and start nicely.

I'm unable to suspend or switch off the Zaurus, though, the on/off button doesn't work, and issuing a "apm -s" command in the terminal result only in an error message (device busy or something like that, can't recall exactly, and I've reflashed Opie since...)

Did anyone else try GPE on a C3000 recently? It looks good, and promising, but if I can't turn it off it's a no go for me...

any of the socket bluetooths?  Are they the only ones that fit flush in the CF slot?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104460\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I wasn't able to make my Socket Rev G Bluetooth CF card work with the Cacko 1.23 beta ROM on the C3000, but reverting to the Sharp ROM (1.11) was the key to success. Now I leave the BT CF card always inserted, and I have written a small script to enable/disable bluetooth quickly, so that I can connect to the net using my mobile phone in a matter of seconds.

Now if only the recently released 1.23 final version of the Cacko ROM was ported to the C3000, I'm sure (fingers crossed) that it would work with the Socket Rev G card...

Then I restart bluetooth:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/bluetooth restart
I have pretty much the same "manual" method for now, except that I stop bluetooth, wake-up the card (with a simple "cardctl resume 0"), then restart bluetooth using "/etc/rc.d/init.d/bluetooth start" (since "restart" first stops then starts the bluetooth stuff, and I have manually stopped it a few seconds before...)

As you write, I'm just happy that it works reliably, even if that suspend/resume stuff is a bit cumbersome to handle. On the other hand, I don't connect that much, and doing it manually is something I can live with until that issue is resolved!

- I don't know how to get a C1000 into the "D+B" mode, or I'd be more than happy to give that a go.  I've tried the sequences I've seen here on OESF, but they're for Cxx0 series, not Cxx00 series, and they don't work.  I know how to get to the NAND backup menu, and the Flash menu, but no "D+B" mode.  Maybe that's one of them and I'm just too much of a n00b to know?  I certainly can't read Japanese, so if it's the Flash menu I'd never know it.  (wink)
I was having troubles getting the console at boot with the "D+B" trick, and I've managed to get it at last. Last time I suceeded, I simply removed the battery, pressed D+B, then put the battery in position and moved the little switch (the one supposed to lock the cover in place), then my C3k started to boot and a few seconds later I saw the text displayed at the bottom of the screen, scrolling, so I knew I was in the console and stopped pressing the D and B keys.

I'll try it again, and if I find a "reliable" (i.e. easy enough to reproduce for  someone with big paws like me  ) method, I'll try to make a short movie with my digicam, and will upload it here.

With this card, I haven't (yet) been able to use Kismet, but it did work fine with Wellenreiter in ad-hoc mode (using the Cacko 1.23beta ROM on my C3000).

I've just re-installed Sharp ROM v1.11 and will try again a fresh start to get Kismet working, I'll let you know if I ever suceed!

Sharp ROMs / Socket Bt Cf Card (rev G) & Cacko 3k (beta1)
« on: November 11, 2005, 02:56:02 am »
Hi all,

I've reinstalled the original Sharp ROM (instead of the Cacko beta), and the Bluez packages (bluez_zaurus_2.13_2.4.18_alpha3_arm.ipk, bluez-csr-serial_0.1_arm.ipk, qtopia-bluetoothnetworkapplet_1.0.1_arm.ipk, susp_resume_bluez_0.9.3_arm.ipk and sudo_0.1_arm.ipk), and after a few attempts, I was able to connect to the net through my Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone!

I'll post a more detailed description of my setup as soon as I have more time to iron out the remaining glitches (right now the suspend/resume issue seems not to be working quite right despite the susp_resume_bluez package I installed). But at least I know that my Socket Rev G card works fine!
