Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Angstrom Poodle Fails To Install.
« on: August 03, 2007, 08:23:26 am »
Well, the latest image at the angstrom-website is from the 5. June.
The X11 image throws a flash error too (and stops booting when the statusbar reaches something about 95%), the console image works.

User Request for Applications / Xfs Support?

You don't need to patch it in, you simply have to compile a kernel out of OE with xfs-support integrated or compiled as a module.

Is it possible to overclock the poodle with the 2.6 kernel?
(is it possible at all?)

Okay, I have that stuff working now.
Had to build my own kernel out of OE (and flash it since the modules where compiled with gcc-4.1.1 and your kernel is built with gcc-3.4) and it works now.
So far so good.
Don't want to give my new 2.6 kernel away
I'm just building some apps for testing them.
Strangly mounting nfs-drives does not work (protocol unsupported) although I have the nfs-module loaded.

Is anyone interested in my reports?

Well, despite of that. With the hentges Opie image I had the problem, that the screen turns black when launching Opie.
Was unusable.
With GPE the backlight control doesn't work correctly and disables the screen normally.
You have to tap around on the black screen and move somehow the slider again until it turns on again.
Suspend does not work either.

I feared that.
It's difficult without connection to the internet.
Where can I get the module so that I can copy it via card and insmod it?

So, I finally tried the new images.
Couldn't test much of it until now, but looks good (and fast).
Is there anything special I have to care of when getting usb networking to work?
Is the kernel module missing?
ifconfig -a reports no usbd0 device.

Software / Gentoo/zaurus
« on: July 17, 2006, 06:04:43 am »
I tried to get gentoo on my zaurus.
Via nfs and having openzaurus on the pda itself, it is no big deal.
I stucked for the moment because of two reasons:
1. You won't get a working X-server when you have running a 2.4 kernel. With a 2.6 kernel it should work out of the box mostly.
2. gcc-4.0 is currently putting out softfloat garbish. (this may be a uclibc specific problem)
3. uclibc itself makes many problems, although that is getting better

Problem 1 will vanish as soon as the 2.6 kernel for my zaurus is finished. Problem 2 will someday be solved by the gentoo-developers.
Or I try it with glibc, what may make problems 2 and 3 vanish at the same time.
(although uclibc must be prefered if you only have 32 MB RAM)

General Discussion / Smartphones With Linux
« on: July 15, 2006, 04:54:25 am »
Well, for my self I have decided, that I don't need a smartphone.
I've already my zauri to play with (and for this plays I have not enough time anyway) so such a smartphone would be quiet the same thing, despite that there is not really a chance to get gentoo running on it.
Much to expensive these little toys.

General Discussion / Smartphones With Linux

Hello guys,

my parents finally force me to use a mobile phone by buying me one.
So, what do I need on a mobile phone?
Linux of course.

I don't have much knowledge about mobile phones (never got one) and even less about linux on such ones ( I played much with my zaurus)
So, does someone of you know a nice device, on which you can play with linux (keeping its ability to serve as a mobile phone  ) and which is not too expensive (probably hard to find, I think)?

Would be nice to share your knowledge with me.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Dosbox On A Poodle?
« on: July 11, 2006, 05:20:52 am »
the armv5-package is the right one for the poodle, because it is optimized for its CPU.
You may try to install a debugger like strace oder gdb and find out, where it dies.
But perhaps you still haven't enough RAM simply.
Try to shutdown everything not necessarily needed and increase swap-size.
Dosbox will still be unuseable slow, I think, but you can try of corse.

In what does that image differ from the normal 2.4 image?
I thought you can use a normal image with the right modules in /lib/modules

Well, can you give some hints about 2.6 on poodle?
What does work, what not?

And I can build the kernel simply out of OE?

My 10 € were only for supporting the kernel development.
So you have to delete me from the list.

Same for me.
The volume applet in the taskbar has no effect either.
