For Sale / Wanted / Fs: Zaurus 750 & 5500
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:43:57 pm »
Hi all,
It's been ages since I've been on the forums.  Work has kept me extremely busy over the last 6+ months & I don't see it letting up anytime soon.  So, I thought I'd part w/ my last two Z's.  I have both a 750 & a 5500.  Both have been well taken care of.  I've purchased/sold several Z's over the last couple of years here, so I know others can "vouch" for me.  Anyway, here's the what's included.  The 750 actually has a C760 screen w/ the extended battery.  It's has zero bad blocks in FLASH. It does have 1 dead pixel on the screen as well.  It's currently running the Stock Sharp rom converted to English.  It has the charger, 1 gig sd card, & a retractable charge/sync cable as well.  The 5500 is running the tkcROM 2 w/ the 2gig sd module, that I posted to the forums last year along w/ the other tkcROM & the stock 3.13 rom.  It has a 2 gig card installed already.  Both handhelds come w/ a wifi card & I also have a socket low power ethernet card & a 56K compact flash modem.  I have the AirCable Bluetooth module.  I've used it many times w/ my Treo 700p.  It works great.  Basically setup a ppp connection & you're off.  I can post pictures if you like.  They'll come w/ lots of software from TheKompany, & Handango that I've purchased over the years also including SoftMaker's wordprocessor. .  I'd like to sell together to make things simple.  So how about $120 for everything plus shipping?  If you're interested drop me a pm here or shoot me an email.  It's nice to see the forums still active.

General Discussion / I Mounted A 2 Gig Sd Card!
« on: July 11, 2007, 12:05:35 am »
I post this in another message, but I'll add it here.    I don't recommend trying this sd module from the collie on a 6000.  The 5000/5500 don't have a "standard" sd driver like the rest of the Z's.  Search the forums.  That's why OZ kernel's prior to 2.6 kernel were still using the original Sharp module or this one.  And the rest of the Z's had a working SD driver in 2.6.  I'm not a Z hardware expert, but I hate to see you lose access to your sd slot.     I would think you'd have a better shot trying to c-guys drivers before trying to use the collie module.  Take care.

Thank you, Cyril92, I have regained access to my MMC card with the module that you provided.

On a related note, I asked the people at SPECTEC if they had a driver for one of their SD 802.11b cards for the Zaurus SL-C760.  They did not, but they have a driver for a closely related 2.4.18 kernel for a Samsung handheld computer.

There was some discussion recently about a 2GB+ SD driver that was a disassembled and hacked version of the original Sharp driver, modified by someone in Brazil to work on the Zaurus SL-5500 models.  Perhaps that driver might work with the SL-6000.  The web page is:

I honestly think that was the quickest for sale post/sold I've ever witnessed!   The Z's are spoken for.  Thanks Alejandro.  I hope you enjoy them.

You're seriously selling 3 Zs for less than the price of a new one? That's like buying a C1000 and getting the C760 and 5600 free!

I would buy that now if I weren't broke

Somebody's going to get one heck of a deal!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164590\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hey Capn_Fish.   I'd rather seem them go to someone in the Z Community who will use them.  Kind of a waste for them to be sitting on my desk & not being turned on that much.  Last year, I did the same thing w/ a bunch of Palm Stuff.  I sold loc4me a Palm LifeDrive & a Palm TX for the price of one basically.  I threw in a bunch of apps, etc.  He still hasn't let me get my C3K back.     I will be keeping a C750 that I use daily and my ol' standby 5500.  Why keep the C750 over a C760/C1K?  Simply because I've had it longer and it's already setup the way I need it to be.  I mostly use it when I'm on-site somewhere remote and I can't hook up to a customer's internet.  So, I'll break out the Z and pair it w/ my Treo 700p over Bluetooth.  I finally got my AirCable Bluetooth working a while back.  It was great while on vacation a few weeks ago.    Take care.

Hey all,
Since I haven't had alot of time to mess around much these days w/ all my Z's, I've decided to let a few go.     I'm a gadget geek like most on here.  hehe.  Anyway, I've decided to part w/ my C760, C1000, and a poodle, SL-5600.  I've never tried to make a killing on selling of my toys, so here's the deal, if someone is interested all three devices, I'll let them go as a package for $325 plus shipping or I can sell the systems seperately.  The C760 does include the original box w/ CD's, it has the smaller battery pack and has the black screen from a C750 on it.  It does have the "ghosting" issue of some Z's.  It's got Cacko 1.23 loaded on it.  The C1000 is also running Cacko 1.23.  It has 1 bad pixel in the lower right hand corner.  Barely noticeable.  The SL-5600 is running the stock Sharp rom 1.32.  I picked all of these up off eBay over the last year.  They all run great.  The 5600 didn't come w/ a cradle.  I never worried about this, since I don't hotsync over USB.  I'll be including 2 compact flash wireless cards as well.  Each  Z will also come w/ the original stylus and power supply.  I'll be posting pics later this afternoon.  My eBay username is kb7sqi48vf, I have a 100% feedback rating and I've sold several gadgets to loc4me.

Sharp ROMs / Oz To Sharp Rom Problem: Launcher.conf

Have you tried using the option to #3 to clear out /home?  Since you are going from OZ back to the Sharp Rom, I would suggest doing that.  It should hopefully take care of your problems.  I change roms on my 5600 all the time & haven't had any problems going back to the Sharp Rom.  Good luck.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164093\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Success, finally!  I used the option #3 "Format" as you suggested but it took many attempts to finally get it to work.  Here is what I did:

- Updated to the Sharp ROM from the CF card.
- As it was begining to reboot from the above update, I reset the unit and entered the maintenance screen again.
- Selected option #3 to format the flash.
- As it was beginning to reboot from the previous step format, I reset the unit and entered the maintenance screen again.
- Updated to the Sharp ROM from the CF card.
- Allowed the reboot to proceed normally.

This successfully booted the Sharp ROM image.  Thanks for the clue!

Glad it worked for you!  Good luck w/ your Z.

Thanks for the info..

Just flashed and the ssh keys are being generated. I'll reboot with the SD card in to see if it still recognises my 512 card. Then I'll go and get a 2 gig card. Just to be lazy, will I need to mess about with the block sizes when I format it? Or can I just run the prep-home-sd script?

I'll catch you later.

Cheers

Wait a minute...didn't you come up with those directions three years ago in a previous post

But I do have a question for folks. I installed everything, ran the script and so far everything runs great. However, my Z no longer recognizes my Belkin wifi card. I plug it in and the green link light goes on, but the network app says there is no card. I've had this problem with the modified tkc rom as well. I am using a slightly different kernel, the asyncio kernel. However, this shouldn't change anything since it is the kernel used by the Sharp ROM with async enabled.

Any easy solutions?

Chris,
Check your email.  I sent you a new wlan-ng.conf file.  Copy it over the original one in /etc/pcmcia.  Reboot & your Belkin Card should work now.      Let me know if you have any problems.  Take care.

I downloaded the attachments (please Santa can this problem with attachments be solved by this Christmas?  ) and immediately ran into difficulties.

Are the files actually of type gz? If so what options did you use to tar them up.? My desktop gui archive manager says there is a problem and bottles out. If I fiddle about a bit I get an empty directory.

I suppose I could just substitute the updated/upgraded module by hand, but the initrd, especially with the version for sharprom to allow home on SD was very attractive!

Oh well, I suppose I should go and play with the command line and the downloaded files.

Cheers

I gzip'ed them before uploading them.  No tar, just ungzip them & then rename them to initrd.bin to flash them.  Sorry, I guess I could've used zip, but I normally use gzip/bzip2 to compress files.  I flashed the sharprom w/ 2gig sd module & /home on sd.  It's been running fine for 24 hours now.

Just to make sure everyone understands why there are 2 sharp 3.13 initrd.bin files.  One only has the newer sd module to support 2 gigs and the other one also has the modified rc.sysinit script from the TKC V2 rom.  Figured I'd give people a choice.     I don't really get to mess w/  my 5500 as much as I like, but while I was re-doing these init.rd files today, since chrisl had asked for them, I started looking at thing I wanted to update again.  When I was testing the files today, I made the mistake of not backing up my already modified rom.  Oh well, just gives me a reason to do it again.  I'm planning on taking the tkcrom v1 rom & updating alot of the command line stuff & the timezone info.  Any opinons what people would like updated on this?  I'll try to do it when I have time & upload it as well.

I figured I'd post this to the forums & clear up some misconceptions.  First off, if you look back in the thread on the tkcrom w/ home on sd thread, I had posted back in November that I had modified the tkcroms v1 & v2 to use the modified 2 gig sd module and hadn't had any problems testing them.  I also modified the stock sharp rom 3.13 the same way.  I didn't really do anything special here.  All I did was take the /root/etc/rc.d/rs.sysinit script from the TKC V2 ROM & put them in the other 2 roms.  I also just swapped out the sd module for the newer one.  Extracting the rom on a linux box is pretty simple & just copy'ing some files then doing a mkcramfs on the extracted directory.  Nothing special.     I just wanted to have that stuff in rom so I didn't have to add it after the fact.  I'm attaching the initrd.bin files here so that way anyone can try them out.  I also used the same prep-sd script mentioned in the tkcrom thread, version 5.  I didn't modify it in anyway.   Last thing.  I've read in a few of the threads about trying to use the 2 gig sd module on other Z's.  I don't recommend you try this.     It's not going to work.  If you searched the forums, you'll notice that the 5000/5500 Z's don't have a "standard" sd slot like the 5600 and above.  That's why OZ versions prior to the 2.6 kernel had to use the same sd module that either came w/ the stock 5500 rom or the modified one mentioned above.  I have 5 different Z's and I like them all, but I'll hardly claim to be an expert.     I hope the files will be useful to someone.  If you have any questions, feel free to add to the post.

Sharp ROMs / Oz To Sharp Rom Problem: Launcher.conf

I have been using the OZ and Hentges ROMs for some time on my SL-5600.  However, I want to run the VNC server on the Zaurus to remote control it on my Linux laptop.  I have not been able to do this with anything I have tried with OZ.  Others have reported success using the Sharp ROM.

I updated to the Sharp ROM with the "560v132c.zip" file from http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp.  The update from my CF card appeared to go just fine.

Upon booting the first time, the Zaurus screen fills with errors.  All of them refer to settings in "launcher.conf" and file not found.  It does this until a message about "to many errors" and shutting down "ln" (I think) for "5 minutes"  This time passes and then lots of similar errors blast by until the  minute shutdown happens again.  This is all I can get upon booting the Sharp ROM update.

From this state, I can update back to OZ or Hentges just fine.  This leaves me quite puzzled.  I can try different CF cards as sources though I am using the same CF card for OZ and Hentges updates.  I have not yet tried doing another download of the file from Sharp.  I also have not tried the Windows update process since I use Linux.  I do have a Windows install that I could use to try the Windows update if someone thinks it would help.

Am I looking at a bad flash ROM that doesn't write a certain region or some other hardware issue?  Any guesses, educated or otherwise?

I guess, you should flash Ospack.

Try this. Just extract the zip and put the Ospack file (this is v.3.13), without renaming it, on a CF card plug the AC adapter, and press hardware reset while pressing c+d. When finished press hardware reset again, and reboot.

Good luck.

I don't think it would be a good idea to flash a 5600 w/ a rom from the 5500.

Sharp ROMs / Vpnc Not Working On Stock Sl-c3200 Rom

I can get it all installed, and it never seems to connected once it takes my credentials.  Anyone else get this working.  The same setup worked under cacko, so I am not sure why it is not working under the stock ROM.  Anyone have any ideas?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Have you tried the vpnc setup from the [a href=\"http://viperinz.sourceforge.net/]Viperinz[/url] ?

I have run this w/ no problem on a 5500, 5600, 750, 760 & a C1000.  I use it to connect to work daily.  Let me know if you need any assistance.  Take care.
