Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openvpn In Pdaxrom- Help Setting It Up

Thank you again.....
I now have a working OpenVPN! in manual mode but it works
This is very important to me, because I spent a lot of time traveling and I am force to use either hotspots or someone else network.

My goal is not to use / store any personal data in the company computer!
Now instead of traveling with:
Zaurus 3200 > goes every where with me
IBM Z61 > company
Powerbook G4 > personal

I will take only the first 2; only need to figure out what to do about skype

My next challenge is to automate the process based on the connection profile.
If you can point me in the right direction it will be grate, in the mean time I am starting to look in to shell scripting.

Any way thank you very much.

Regards
Alejandro.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openvpn In Pdaxrom- Help Setting It Up

Thank you again for the replay; but I have not been able to complete the connection.

I follow the sequence of command that you use in your script:
.- Connect to the internet.
.- Open console
.- Type "modprobe tun" get Can't locate module tun
.- Type "mkdir -p /dev/net"
.- Type "mknod /dev/net/tun c 10 200"

Notes:
Reading with in the forums I found that most people put the configuration files on
     /etc/openvpn
I move the openvpn conf files there.

Now I need to tell you that I am not clear about the meaning of the following line:
   openvpn --config ./openvpn.conf --daemon

.- cd /etc/openvpn
.- Type openvpn hotspotvpn2.ovpn

Unfortunately with the same result with TUN/TAP
Console message
"Note: Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: No such device (errno=19)"
"Note: Attempting fallback to kernel 2.2 TUN/TAP interface"
"Note: Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: No such file or directory (errno=2)"

Any further help will be appreciated, really... really appreciated.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openvpn In Pdaxrom- Help Setting It Up

Thank you very much for the files.
The initial problem is gone, but a new one has appeared:

Console message "Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: No such file or directory (errno=2)"

I check in the conf file and made use of tun.
After checking JPMATRIX instructions there was a tun package that I supposed defined the tun device.

Any idea in how to solve / work around this.

Again thank you very much, for your help.

Regards.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openvpn In Pdaxrom- Help Setting It Up
« on: August 06, 2007, 08:56:22 am »
Hi to all,

I am trying to set OpenVpn now in pdaXrom and variant (weeXpc).
With JPMATRIX's help I was able to set it up in Cacko 1.23. In other words config files work.

I have installed from one of the feeds:
OpenVpn 2.0.5
lzo 2.0.2

Created a directory to contain the configuration files:
 ~/hotspotvpn2

Change to that directory and execute "openvpn hotsoptvpn2.ovpn", tried sudo.

and I get back:
openvpn: error while loading shared libraries: liblzo2.so.2 cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

OpenBSD / Another Newbie Trying To Install Openbsd
« on: July 11, 2007, 11:16:31 am »
Gaarder,

Thank you for the replay, I am still studying my OpenBSD and put off the change while traveling. My Zaurus is my primary / every day machine, I use the company machine as a hi tech screw driver, is not mine it can be taken away at any time....

But as soon as I get back I will first back everything up and proceed with the supplied procedure.

I need to recognize I felt a little intimidated while reading Absulute OpenBSD about how much knowledge you are suppose to show for someone to consider answering a BSD question, but finally I concluded that I will not let a small thing like that stearing me away from trying.

Thank you again. I will post results as soon as possible.

Regards.
Alejandro

OpenBSD / Another Newbie Trying To Install Openbsd
« on: July 01, 2007, 06:43:32 am »
JPMATRIX,

Thank you for the answer.
So far I have been reading Absolute OpenBSD.

The main thing that I have learn is that I need to learn more - UNIX user long time ago.
In any case thank you for your disposition to help and share.

I will take a little longer before trying OpenBSD:
1.- I am away from home on a work trip, and do not want to be with out a functional Zaurus.
2.- I need to develop BSD skills before commiting my Zaurus.

Again thank you all.

Alejandro.

OpenBSD / Another Newbie Trying To Install Openbsd

Hello to all,

I am gathering everything to install OpenBSD in my Sl-C3200; but I need to admit that the more I read the more I get confused.
I hope some of you will find the time and patience to help me.

After reading as many post as I have been able to follow (jpmatrix, mathemajikian, zdevil and others - this are the names I remember   ), I have done the following.

    .-Have www.planetofidiots.com/zaurus guide.
    .-Electronic copy of Absolute OpenBSD.
    .-A plethora of links.
    .-Plenty of questions...
    .-TRISOFT recovery files

Questions:
1) I have currently installed / running cacko 1.23 full, what will be the procedure to dual boot with cacko?
I found a guide from mathemajikian to actually accomplish the opposite.

2) What is the difference of installing OpenBSD regularly and 4.1 snapshot?
About this I did print both guide in how to installed OpenBSD and OpenBSD snapshot and they are practically the same.

3) If the prefer method is via the snapshot, please help me to find / guide in the installation procedure.

4) I have a good network connections at a time right now, can the full installation be done using either a CF card or USB thumb drive?

P.S. I am aware that all the questions are very basic, but I am willing to try  !
I will be reading my Absolute OpenBSD book in the mean time.

Regards.
Alejandro

JPMATRIX, and all ...

Thank you for all the help, finally I managed to install all the packages as described in JPMATRIX howto (same versions) and everything works!

I am very exited specially because I am in the road a lot and for security reasons I was not using my Zaurus as much as I wanted (I am traveling with a Windows Laptop - work, Mac Power Book G4 12" and my Zaurus - personal),  the only way that I found / could improve my internet sccess was either using company cisco vpn (that I do not like for personal purposes), and a personal Vpn from Witopia for my G4 (sotware package).

Recently I discovered another provider of personal vpn - HotSpotVpn, that actually offers as an option OpenVpn compatibility.

Now I am able to "securely" connect my Zaurus while on the road using OpenVpn and HotSpotVpn2 Virtual private service.

The service is not inexpensive, but having a way to reliably securely connect is worthed; I even contemplated the option of setting a box in my house to either SSH or Install OpenVpn server but everything always boils down to how to recover the service if a system failure happens and I am on the road  .

In any case thank you again ......
I just wanted to share with others the effect of your help.

Regards,
Alejandro.

OpenBSD / Alone?
« on: June 18, 2007, 01:28:11 pm »
JPMATRIX,

I will take the oprtunity to pick your brain about how do you use Zaurus with Open BSD.
i have been following your recent interchange / activity with openBSD.

How do you mainly use your zaurus for? Developement, laptop replacement?
What enviroment you use? console, windows manager?

I am trying to use my zaurus as my communication center, in other words the typical email, web access, finance record, wired - wireless VPN (using hotspotsVPN).

I do not mind to have more a computer than a PDA functionality.

PS: thank you for the OpenVPN tutorial, I am still strugelling but making progress.

Regards.
Alejandro.
