5x00 General discussions / Multiple Calendars With Outlook 2003
« on: September 21, 2005, 10:43:33 pm »
Howdy,

Has anyone ever had a need to sync multiple calendars with a 5500?  If so, could you possibly explain it to a technically challenged user?

(I have calendars for four teachers in Outlook 2003.  I often need to compare schedules and make additions on the road between schools but can currently only display the 'main' calendar on the Zaurus...)

Cheers

OK...  Problem solvered (this problem anyway).

Will post new dramas in a separate thread (the only real connection between the issues is the twit who doesn't know what he's doing...    )

Still...  If you're reading this and you know of a 'simple man's guide' to installing Japanese fonts on the SL-5500...

Howdy prOtOn,

I can now synch Outlook (minus some detail on the calander) via Intellisinc with the new Sharp ROM.  I would describe the job as less than satisfactory, but I've seen a few threads alluding to workarounds and fixes for some of these issues.

After all the trouble I had installing the new Sharp ROM, I think I'm too scared to try another install for a while.

My big issue now is getting the Japanese language display hapening...

OK...  Tried the C+D Reset with the OSPack for Sharp 3.13 oin a brand new CF card (as per http://www.myzaurus.com/faq.asp#21st) and had no joy whatsoever.

Reformatted to FAT (from FAT32) and tried again with exactly the same results...

I'm going to type vertabim what was on my Zaurus after restart both times (as I don't have a clue what it all means...)

INIT: version 2.78 booting e2fsck 1.19, 13 Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09.
ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such mining whether /dev/mtdblock1 is mounted.
Couldn't find ex2 superblock, trying backup blocks...

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ex2 filesystem.  If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
     e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

e2fsck: Invalid argument while trying to open /dev/mtdblock1

I then goes on to tell me that an error occurred during the file system check and the system will reboot when I leave the shell...

/etc/passwd: root password garbled
Give root password for maintainence (or type Control-D for normal startup):

('Control-D' is not found, by the way...  I have to reset and go back to the original ROM about now...)

AAAaaarrrRRrrGhhHHhh!!!!

Could someone please help me out here (Man, I'm WAY over my head!)

Having BIG problems updating to the new Sharp Rom through WinXP...

I can't find any mention of the particular problem I'm having.  The SL series (WDM) driver installs AOK, but the second driver doesn't install at all (XP tells me that my new hardware is ready to use after the first wizard).

I can transfer files back and forth through Zaurus File transfer and can sync with Outlook (sort of) through the sync options, but when I run 'Update Rom' from the CD-v313(win upgrade), it gives me a 'FlashRom Update' (unable to connect to the Zaurus).

I've followed the recipe exactly and am well confused about now...

The FAQ at My Zaurus says

"3) Go to Start-control panel-Network Connections. Verify that there is a LAN CONNETION and that it is ‘enabled’ for SL SERIES NDIS 5

4) Right click on the SL SERIES NDIS 5 and go to Properties. Under the Advanced Tab ensure that Firewall setting is disabled."

Nobody, however, has anything to say on what you should do if the LAN connection doesn't exist (I'm assuming that this is my issue.  I really don't know enough to say).

The only driver I have installed is my ethernet adapter (SIS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter).

Could someone clever please - in very small words - tell me what to do to update the ROM?  (small words and an itiemized aproach are good...  I'm on the 'new' end of the newb scale).

Thanks...

Thanks for replying chal.  I appreciate the advice.

I guess I'm not looking for the 'best' ROM just now.  I just need the best one for a newbie to get started with (I will play around when I become a little more proficient).

The one thing I really need is the ability to sync with Outlook 2003 in a Windows XP environment.  Word processing is not a priority (though it might occassionally be useful).  Wireless can also wait a few months (though an equivalent of Palm's 'Avant Go' to browse offline and update from the desktop at synch would be very useful indeed).

Do you have isues with software when changing between platforms?  (just trying to figure out if most of what I've found in the Zaurus Software Index will work with different ROMS...).

I never had the opportunity to choose with my Treo 90, so it's all a bit confusing (but pretty cool nonetheless   )

Cheers!

Howdy all,

Just thought I'd say Hi before I get to all the annoying newbie questions...

Awaiting delivery of a 5500 and just wanted to ask what Rom would everyone recommend for a total newb on his first install (figure I may as well try to get it right the first time).

I'm not great on specs and statistics (don't really have the background to understand them), so I'm not real clear on the differences between the various packages out there.  I did a search of the site, but didn't understand a lot of what I read...

Looking for something user-friendly.  I plan to use my Zaurus for office type applications, Japanese language study, ebooks and let my kids watch movies on long car rides.

I can generally get everything to work - sort of - if I fiddle long enough in a GUI environment, but I'm totally lost if there's any coding or command line stuff required.  So, I'm hoping for stuff I can install from a GUI without having to tweak it.

So, please everyone, any tips, user friendly software recommendations for the sort of stuff I want to do, useful links for newbs or whatever would be greatly appreciated

Thank you all (Cheers from Westen Japan).
