Gemini PDA - Hardware / Bricked pda on Factory reset
« on: October 08, 2020, 02:56:29 pm »
I have several Android tablets and sometimes do a factory reset without issues.
Not the case with the Gemini pda! It simply bricked!
Loops endlessly with Planet logo. This is a major flaw.
How do I am get my machine back?

I got my update fine yesterday OTA. I did have to try about six times because of a server error.
Plain unrooted Android 4G system.

Gemini PDA - Android / There IS a useful AGENDA app for the Gemini
« on: July 02, 2018, 10:24:55 am »
Many thanks for posting this; it is an amazing app with outstanding support.
What users may not know is that there is a beta copy of the app which will sync with a desktop version (also in beta). You need to contact the author to be given permission to become a "tester" and then (if successful) you will get a link.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / FAT32 limitation

The FAT32 limitation is a real pain! I have a lot of stuff on a portable USB drive (NTFS) that I would like to carry with me.

Is there any way to embrace either EXFAT or NTFS?

This is one of my previous comment from another thread (Android OS - USB-Sticks):

I use Total Commander with plugin Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software (one-time purchase for lifetime). I connected sucesfully flash drive Patriot Supersonic Magnum 2 512GB formatted in exFAT (not FAT32). When I connect it with Gemini via adapter (USB type C to USB-A), I open plugin, mount it, and then I can easily access all content on the flash drive, copy and move between Patriot and Gemini. It is true transfer speeds between laptop (with NVME SSD and USB 3.1) and flash drive are around 300 MB/s, but between Gemini and flash drive transfer speeds are around 30 MB/s. But it is working, it takes only few seconds to start transferring data.

Many thanks - it works very well and is a life-saver. I made the full purchase at £9.99 and found that it also binds into File Manager+ which I find easier to use than Total Commander. Can now read my NTFS cards and drives.

I have the Planet USB C hub. I plugged in a wired ethernet connection, but it doesn't show on the PC network tab.
What do I need to do?

Android doesn't run samba, you wouldn't see the phone as a "network device".  It is capable of being an smb client however.  What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Its better if you tell us exactly what you're end game is, then we can help you get there through workflow and/or configuration.

I need to move some music and video files from my PC to the Gemini. I've used the X-pore app as a wifi server, but this is quite slow and I don't want to keep extracting the SD card. I imagined that a rired connection would be faster.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Supported Only On Some Devices?
« on: June 08, 2018, 04:26:49 am »

I thought I had seen a comment somewhere about HDMI working to connect with some TVs but not with others, but searching here didn't find it.

I'm having exactly that issue: the HDMI adapter works fine with a four years old Samsung Smart TV, but an older Toshiba TV (model number 46XV640UZ, made in October 2009) just pretends the Gemini isn't there. The Toshiba works fine with a variety of other HDMI sources but just won't work with the Gemini.

Any suggestions to make this work? Is anyone else having similar problems?

I have the Planet USB to HDMI adaptor. Tried it on my LG 4K TV and at first it wouldn't work. Then I unplugged the cable from the USB port and reconnected it. It now works fine.
I tried the same process with an AOC monitor - same result as before.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Connectivity kit
« on: June 07, 2018, 04:47:08 pm »
Kit has now  arrived. I have only had time to test the HDMI cable. There seems to be a sequence to get it working. Power on TV, power on PDA, connect cable. If your TV or monitor doesn't see the Gemini, take the USC-C connector out and then re-plug it. Works fine on my LG 4K TV although the highlights seem to be blown. My 4K AOC computer monitor works fine. Sound work fine on TV.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Connectivity kit

As I live in UK, I ordered the connectivity kit direct from Planetcom UK. This includes the HDMI cable and the USB-C hub. Just had notification that the items have shipped via Royal Mail, so should be here by weekend.
I'll post an update on how things are working.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Poor sound via headphone jack
« on: May 29, 2018, 04:59:39 pm »
the 3.5 jack offers very poor sound output. If you listed on headphones, there is a lot of computer "hash" noise. Tonight I plugged in a pair of self-powered Philips speakers. The GPDA actually started vibrating!
Something wrong here!

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / First impressions
« on: May 16, 2018, 04:12:38 pm »
I am a UK backer 43xx
Just got my unit today.
No issues with keyboard. Perfect.
Screen is outstanding - tried a 4K clip and it is bright, crisp and very detailed.
Connected a USB 3 stick - recognised (FAT32) and plays video and HD audio.

Speaker volume is excellent

Build quality is outstanding.

Addendum:

Went out and bought Three SIM card today (10Gb for the price of 2Gb) and so 4G is now working very well

I am backer number 4394 and tonight I had a notification that it was at Gatwick hub. Shipping via Royal Mail 24 hour delivery.
Thank God it wasn't Hermes!

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Latest updates on Indiegogo

Update #51:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gemini-p...374#/updates/51

The Perk/Order Checker Tool has been released! You can check your order here:

http://planetcom.co.uk/checker

Other news:

"We believe that the main issue is the inconsistent quality of the keyboard mat component. We are instrumenting further quality checks on the keyboard during the current production run."

The camera add-on is now in production and they'll be shipping it around mid-April.

Gemini will be supporting Android 8.1 in the near future, running kernel version 4.4, for all the produced Geminis!

Varti

I have to say with all the visits to the factory in China, quality control is not impressive! If the main selling point is the keyboard, we need something better than wobbling keys and a spacebar that requires precision to get it working. These major issues should have been sorted out by now!
