Gemini PDA - Android / Android Screen Icons
« on: June 20, 2018, 08:48:49 am »
Apologies, I thought you were using Nova. The free version is entirely adeqaute, if you want to try it.

The search bar is a feature of the Google bundled launcher, Launcher3, and as such there isn't the ability to remove it. It is a pain to have to download another application to get your desktop looking how you want, but this is how Android works when it is of the Google variety.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / speakers out of phase?
« on: June 20, 2018, 08:33:19 am »
I know there are apps such as Polarity Checker that allows you to check a speaker for this by playing a series of test audio files. Perhaps if you have another android device you could use it to check the Gemini. I might give it a go later if I can.

I know that my ears can't detect phase difference but I do think the Gemini's sound quality is poor having watched a few vidoes.

After some fiddling I managed to get rid of it but can't remember how. Have you tried in Nova Settings  .. Desktop .. Persistent Search Bar?

Edit: the five icons on the right are in the Dock. You can customise this or turn it off in Nova settings too.

QUICK QUESTION:

How to add an app's icon to Nova Launcher (Prime) desktop?

Just drag it from your app drawer. Ignore the context menu that might pop up.

Gemini PDA - Android / Brightness keys

My Moto G5 allows me to change the brightness when adaptive brightness is on.

How does that work?  Is the brightness adjustment applied ‘on top of’ the automatic value from then on?  Or does it revert to the automatic value after a certain time, or if the ambient light level changes, or what?

I can't see a reasonable way that could behave without risking other issues.

Seems reasonable to me, but then I'm used to the behaviour with this phone. Maybe I'm missing something.

It's hard to measure with one's eyes but I think it works in the first way you propose: Dark room, turn on bedside light brightness goes up. Turn it off, brightness down. 'Manually' increase brightness a bit. Light on, brightness up. Light off, brightness back to what it was (as close as I can tell).

Gemini PDA - Hardware / µSD card seems stuck
« on: June 17, 2018, 04:33:05 pm »
Well I have just found an old (8gb!) uSD and you're right, it doesn't want to come out. Looking closely there are a couple of tiny raised plastic nibs keeping the card secure when it's loaded; it's a matter of slipping the edge of a fingernail or something verrry thin under the card to lift it slightly so you can then slide it over the plastic retainers using your thumb. Good luck!

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Flash tool
« on: June 17, 2018, 03:24:48 pm »
I had fallen at the first hurdle, couldn't get the linux flash tool to open on my Mint 17.1 installation so used the version v5.1816 (latest) which did.

However when attempting a readback the flash tool gives the error

"
ERROR : STATUS_ERR (-1073676287) , MSP ERROE CODE : 0x00.
"

My PC has no problem communicating with the Gemini as it is quite happy to see android and enter MTP mode. Any ideas anyone?

Gemini PDA - Android / Brightness keys

My Moto G5 allows me to change the brightness when adaptive brightness is on. Although the adaptive setting works well most of the time there are occasions when it's useful to be able to tweak the baseline brightness slightly. It would be great to be able to do this on the Gemini, especially with the hardware keys.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / WiFi Only Think's It's a Phone...
« on: June 17, 2018, 05:15:33 am »
I thought similar while setting up my wifi-only Gemini. I assume it has an IMEI because the chipset has eSIM support. You can get rid of the 'no  sim' (or any) icon in the pull-down notification area by tapping the pencil icon and dragging what you don't  want to the lower panel, but irritatingly  it's still there in the top-of-the-screen notification strip.
I might try to install whatsapp, can't say I noticed what other phone-specific apps were available on the play store.

Wow, drand, that came fast. You received notice of shipping just yesterday, right?

Congrats.

Jake

Thanks. Fast yes, but it was sent on a 24hr service and it only had to get from London to the south coat of the UK so about right!

Received mine this morning, Royal Mail 24, UK wifi #3882. I'm slowly getting used to the keyboard. With a bit of software development this thing is going to be awesome.

Typed on my Gemini!
