Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Keyboard replacement?
« on: December 04, 2021, 12:10:50 am »
How easy is it to replace the keyboard on a Cosmo? Mine died so I have just ordered a Japanese one for £360.

I would like to swap the keyboard from my old one into it.

Easy?

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Silver button.
« on: December 07, 2020, 07:29:57 pm »
Hi.

I have just received a brand new Cosmo Communicator as my old one got flooded in hospital.

The silver button only seems to function as a back button now. I'm sure I used to be able to use it to activate the voice assistant.

Thoughts?

In addition to Airplane Mode, more call settings, which includes:
- Silent (no vibrate)
- Vibrate only
- Do not disturb

Visual indicator that the call is in speaker mode

Given that Planet Computers is a UK company. An Aeroplane mode might be tickety boo.

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / USB C
« on: December 02, 2019, 11:57:28 pm »
I have a Zendure 10000 mAh powerbank. It has USB 3 & USB C connectors.

On the USB 3 {USB A} it charges fine. Albeit slowly.

On the USB C however, it sees the Cosmo as a charger rather than a chargeé.

My other 2 USB C devices both charge fine from a USB powerbank.  GPD products. GPD P2 MAX & GPD Micro PC.

Any suggestions?

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Keyboard ghosting.

Hi.

If I try to type a capital N or H with the left shift key, I either get NH  or HN. Using the right shift key, everything is fine. It's something I can work around, but still rather annoying.

NHHNNHNHNH etc.

Any suggestions?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Hairline crack in display case
« on: May 26, 2019, 06:57:35 pm »
After inspection, I have found 4 hairline cracks in the case. They don't affect normal operation.

I have checked my "bothered pocket". It's empty.

I have dropped mine from my pocket when getting out of my car many times. On to asphalt.

It has a few scratches, but no significant damage.

Why is the 1 year guarantee illigal?

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Missing features of Cosmo

Image stabilisation? It's a PDA not a camera.

Battery? My Gemini lasts 3-5 days between charges. That seems fine.

Why is AMOLED so important? The screen seems fine to me.

0.9mm thicker? Really an issue?

Will replacement metal parts become available eventually? My Gemini is showing to be surprisingly robust, but the top & bottom covers have a reasonable number of dings & dents. The perils of Warehouse work I guess.

Different colour options would be nice. Pink perchance?

Months  later, the rubber strip is still a little wobbly. It hasn't got worse. No biggie.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Screen Hinge Tightness RESOLVED
« on: September 25, 2018, 10:31:49 pm »
I have a better solution to the coat hanger thing.

Get some galvanised gardening wire, thick wire lock wire or similar. Thinner gauge than coat hanger wire anyway. Cut to length & press into the hinge gap on the bottom of the Gemini.

Make sure you spend some time to make the wire as straight as possible otherwise it makes crunching noises when shutting the device.

No duct tape required.

My screen is rock solid now & you can't even see the modification.

I am using mine as my primary computer and phone now. The keyboard shows no visible wear.

Possible quality control issues?

I just carry mine in my pocket.

Me too.

I carried a Psion in my front-left trouser pocket.

I couldn't do that. Has to be front right.
