Do you get the same problems when on charge?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=116683\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

mine's charging or plugged in at nearly all times, between my adapter, battery extender, and auto inverter, and it screws me anyway

however, i've recently discovered that the card likes it when i push it back as i push it in. it's still a bastard, but at least it works again, every once in a while.

... plug&play? Surely you weren't pulling it out without unmounting it first ...

With unmouting, without unmounting. I've tried lots of both.

howdy guys

so i got this dlink dcf 660 cf wifi card, a sl5500, and the sharp rom 3.10.

anyway, i had plug and play for this thing for a while. it worked fine. then after two weeks or so, it stopped working, and i'd have to unplug and replug it a couple of times to get it to recognise it as a wireless card. as time passed, the number of times that i had to do this before i was able to get it working got longer, to the point where i can't get it to work at all now.

what's up with this

also, assuming i get this thing to work, how do i get a list of available access points?

I've got an itty bitty paper weekly planner that I've found works much better as a PIM than my 5500, especially given my ADD-addled brain. As a consequence, the Zaurus has been sitting in a corner, lonely and unused, for about a year.

Recently, I've been looking around at mp3/ogg players, and have been rather enamored of the latest crop of flash-based video player.

"Those are neat," I think to myself, "but they're damned expensive, and if I'm gonna spend that kind of money I want something that'll let me ssh, check email, browse the web occasionally, and read ebooks."

"SSH... email... ebooks... videos... Oh. Yeah. I've got a Zaurus."

D'oh.

So I'm now determined to dust off the Zaurus, install the latest OZ or Hentges, and buy myself a big, fat SD, MMC, or CF card.

Which leads me to my question:

In y'all's humble opinions, where's the sweet spot right now for price/size/battery life with SD, MMC, CF, and MicroDrives?

I'm looking for at least 1GB, but preferably 2GB or more. Enough to have a couple or four divx/xvid movies and maybe a dozen albums.

I'm not particularly worried about splitting out my apps and my files, or swapping CF cards for wifi and storage - I don't intend to multitask, so a Microdrive would seem to be where it's at. Given that battery life sucks so bad in ideal conditions, though, I'm worried about draining the heck out of it.

Since I'm trying to do this on the cheap, price is a factor.

What do you recommend?

2gb, on the cheap [a href=\"http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008JF0C6/sr=1-12/]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008JF0C6/sr=1-12/[/url]

pny makes a lot of cheap cards. i'm not seeing a lot of reviews, and i don't own one, so caveat emptor.

SD memory usually costs (a lot) more than CF memory. if you don't need the CF slot for something fancy, buy cf memory. you can also use CF memory to install OZ (but not SD!), OK? microdrives are strictly novelty items, when solid state memory is cheaper, more reliable, amd more power efficient. and good feckin' luck finding affordable memory over 2gb.

i got zstella working without sound, and znester working with, in the zaurus rom 3.10.
make sure your card is formatted fat 16, and go crazy installing libraries like zlib, the opie lib thing, libsdl.

mystery solved

i had formatted my sd card with fat32. i read that it works only in fat 16. with windows i can choose to format either 'fat' or 'fat32'.  i assumed 'fat' is fat16, formatted it as such, and it worked.

you guys wouldn't believe how long it took to dawn on me. thanks for attempting to combat my remarkable stupidity

thanks for the reply

Yeah, its the sharp rom 3.10. I think they're sharp rom apps, i had successfully installed the packages before.

so i'm narrowing down my problem

i can't install a handfull of programs, which include eps, zlib, roadmap, and the such.

i downloaded the gpsd binary and tried to run it, but it says i need glibc. i then searched for glibc on the zaurus software thing, found that procps has it, tried to install that, and failed installing that as well.

is it possible that the problem is that i cannot install this library? is there some alternative way to install this business?

thanks

think they're talking to empty-to-full charge cycles

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-36.htm

also how to prolong life of lithium based batteries

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

which basically says, they keep longer if you leave them half-charged, and keep them cool

first time listener, first time caller

i suddenly ran into trouble installing packages on my 5500. i had no trouble before, and then after some hectic sd card times, the packages did not show up in the list to install when i tapped on a package icon.

after reformatting the card from fat to fat32, i found that i was able to install the packages that were included with the update file, but i still could not install any third party packages (especially qpegps).

i found a relevant thread, and while i ask you to forgive me for starting a new one anyway, i read there to type ipkg -d root install <package name>

so i got something to the tune of this

su
# ipkg -d root install qpegps_0.9.2.3.2_arm.ipk
zcat: qpegps_0.9.3.2.3_arm.ipk: not in gzip format

zcat: stdin: unexpected end of file
ipkg_install_file: ERROR unpacking control.tar.gz from qpegps_0.9.2.3.2_arm.ipk

i'm on rom version 3.10, consequentially, i can't connect to update or file transfer anymore.

thanks
