Zaurus - pdaXrom / Beta 4 Questions - Logfiles In Flash And More
« on: May 25, 2006, 09:32:08 am »
In beta4 the fstab file /is/ used.
I've edited it to mount my microdrive partitions. They are now mounted correctly at boot.

I've been having a go at making beta4 as useable as beta2 and 3, I've got the right and middle click to work again properly.
(swap the numbers in /etc/sysconfig/x11mousebutts) to get default (working) beta2 behaviour.

I want to make my Z run the apm suspend and resume scripts. (To unmount samba, restart CF cards, lock the screen, pause xmms/mplayer, etc) Does anybody know how to make the power button execute "apm --suspend" rather than suspending instantly?

I've had all of my USB hard drives work with my C3100, so this one probably will too. Is it known to work on regular linux? If not, then don't be hopeful about it working on the Z, otherwise it should be fine.
YMMV, etc.

cardctl status (i have not got pccardctl) reports
Code: [Select]
Socket 0:
    3.3V 16-bit PC Card
    function 0: [ready]
Socket 1:
    no card

what firmware are you refering to ?

hostap shows up in /var/log/messages and is also the source= I used in kismet config so I guess I am using that.

this isn't a helpful dump of [pc]cardctl status... your wifi card is not in the socket or ejected!

try cardctl insert then cardctl status.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus Faster In Portrait Mode Than Landscape?

Take a look at the Intel PXA27x users manual, it documents the LCD controller built into our Z's processor. IIRC it does have hardware accelerated rotation built into it, but the pxafb framebuffer driver in the current 2.6 kernel does not use this feature. (It doesn't use the PXA's internal video SRAM either, IIRC).
Kernel hacking, anyone?

I've found these problems too.
Try "modprobe g_ether" on your Z.
This might work for you, It doesn't for me.

what is the output from "cardctl status" or "pccardctl status"?
And, if it says your card is bound to hostap_cs driver, have you installed the firmware?

This kernel doesn't support the bvdd device driver at the moment (Is this a 2.6 thing?)
But if you do a "xrandr -s 1" before playing a video, and use "mplayer -vo sdl" I find it to be very acceptable.

On my C3100, when I overclock to 520 I find the screen gets really choppy when the Microdrive does access. I didn't have this problem with OZ or beta2. If the microdrive is really being used hard, and the screen brightness is high, and the cpu is in 624MHz, if I plug in my wifi CF, then random programs segfault the screen flickers and the whole unit then locks up hard. I'm using the latest beta4 which in every other way is lovely. Has anybody else found any problems at all with this? If not, I'll re-flash from the start, and see if it still happens.

3) The Z doesn't seem to have a powered RTC chip, so if you take all the power away, you lose the date and time. Install the ntpdate package and run "ntpdate pool.ntp.org" to set the time easily when connected to ethernet or wlan or something... it's not ideal, but pretty easy.

4) Live in the UK? Try Red Bull or one of the ripoffs like Blue Charge, Kick, etc... (or pro-plus if you like pills)
Live in the US? Try Mountain Dew (banned in the UK) (or vivarin if you like pills -- very strong!)
Live /anywhere/? get a caffatiere and buy some freshly ground coffee and make a nice cup of alertness

--

Has anybody found that their Z becomes unstable now when overclocked? I find in 520 I often get super-distortion on the screen and in 624 it's often to unstable to use, especially with a wifi card attached... might this be too much current being used?
Any ideas?

Here are two hacks I have made to make networking on my pdaXrom 1.1.0beta4 work more smoothly.
They're not pretty and not ideal!

pdaxrom-1.1.0beta4-network-applet-hack.tar.gz
This is a hack of network.py (The LAN & WIFI configuration applett).
It allows a person to use multiple profiles again, with the following restrictions:
If a profile is wireless, then the configuration will be applied to the wlan0 interface.
If the profile is normal, then the configuration is applied to the eth0 interface.
EXCEPT: if the profile is named usb0, then it is applied to the usb0 interface.
NOTE: Do not name your profiles wlan0 or eth0 anymore!

pdaxrom_1.1.0beta4_hostap_fw_fix2.tar.gz
This fix loads firmware into prism2 CF cards automatically when they are inserted, it's been updated so it works more often. (100% in my experience)
This is helpful for cards like: Netgear MA 701, Planex GW-CF11X, Linksys WCF11, etc.
See: A list of prism2 CF cards

Enjoy.

1) Does anybody else find that their settings menu in fbpanel goes off the bottom of the screen? I can't always access the lower items. Is there a way to fix this?

2) I'm working on a fix for the LAN & WIFI applet to allow multiple profiles to work again (as this was a very useful feature). Is anybody else interested in this?

3) Is it possible to get the hostap utilities put into the main ROM in future versions? It's tricky to install them without wireless networking, which is why I need them. (Should I build my own ROM for this?)

4) Does video acceleration work with a standard video overlay?

5) When I tap the screen with the stylus, sometimes it does not register that I have un-tapped and the mouse stays down (for example, if I click on a button, the button might stay down until I click somewhere else). Is this something anybody else has found, and is there a way to fix it?

6) Thank you all so much! I really appreciate your ongoing hard work.

Can apps be compiled from source in beta4 yet?
ie. is there a zgcc for beta4?
if not, why not?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=127186\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I compiled SWI prolog on Beta4 just fine using ZGCC from beta2. (zgcc-3.4.5.img)

So native compilation is still no problem.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sdcards Speed

Hey guy, I have a Zaurus C860 and recently found that there is very fast SDCards avaiable such as this one:
ProShot 130x SD
Speed Rating    130x

Write Speed  18.85 MB/s

Read Speed  19.5 MB/s

What you think guys, sounds pretty awesome !!
Will this work on my/other Zauruses?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=127181\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It should work, but I've found that the SD driver in the current pdaXrom to be quite slow. I'm not sure if it's faster in other ROMs.

Awesome, I really need those 200 extra MHz!
Does this require the newer kernel?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=127141\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

You can use cpu config in Beta3 and do the same thing... with ouf this fix...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=127149\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I didt tested on beta3 with kernel 2.4.... I never looked before on /sys tree...
I need some info about SL-Cx00 for do this compatible....
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=127154\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sorry, I was not clear. I know this is for beta 4, and for 2.6 kernels, but does this require sashz's new beta4 kernel? (with the voltage addon)
