Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.2 - Problems, Fixes, Questions
« on: December 07, 2004, 12:29:55 am »
No go... libetpan1 and libmailwrapper1 are already installed.  I tried reinstalling, maunally linked, still no luck.

I also noticed that when trying to reinstall opie-mail, it fails for the dependancy of libqte2.  The package manager states that libqt2 is already installed, and opie-mail did NOT fail this dependancy the first time I installed it.  Trying to reinstall libqte2 fails (package not found), even though the package name remains after refreshing my package list.  I could not manually find this package in any of the feeds.

# ipkg info libqte2
Package: libqte2
Version: 2.3.7-r20
Depends: libts-0.0-0 (>= 0.0cvs20041127), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.5+1.2.6rc5), libz1 (>= 1.2.2), libjpeg62 (>= 6b), libgcc1 (>= 3.4.2), libc6 (>= 2.3.2+cvs20040726)
Status: unknown ok installed
Architecture: collie

# ipkg-link add libqte2
*** Command: add
*** Locating package
Package "libqte2" not found.

Any other ideas?

Service release 1?  What is this, Microsoft?  :-)

Actually, no I didn't see that.  Installed SR1, reinstalled opiemail, rebooted Z.  Still getting the same error clicking the app on the screen.  When trying to launch from command line, I now get:
: QuickLauncher invoked as: opiemail
: WARNING: Could not create application main window

Also...
# echo $QTDIR
/opt/QtPalmtop

Trying to reinstall opiemail now, but wouldn't you know it, openzaurus is down... Oh well, will try again later.

3.5.2/Opie -- libgaim-plugins (Gaim packages installed to SD)

Gaim is expecting the protocol libraries to be found in /usr/lib/gaim.
After installing to SD, the libraries are actually stored in
/mnt/card/usr/lib/gaim/.

Correct as follows:
# ln -s /mnt/card/usr/lib/gaim/ /usr/lib/gaim

--------------------
3.5.2/Opie -- zroadmap

The ipkg is incomplete. You need to include the files "schema" and "sprites" in the install location (/opt/QtPalmtop/share/roadmap)(These files will have to be pulled from the src file -- http://roadmap.digitalomaha.net/download.html). Anyone who has tried to run zroadmap without these files in place will need to add these files, then delete the same-named files from ~/.roadmap.

The file "usdir.rdm" is required and can be downloaded at http://roadmap.digitalomaha.net/maps/usdir.rdm.tgz
The uncompressed file should be included in the same install directory.

--------------------
3.5.2/Opie -- opiemail

How did anyone get this to work?  After installation, I get the error "Could not locate application opiemail."  When trying to launch from command line, I get the error "Cannot find font definition file /usr/local/qt-embedded/lib/fonts/fontdir - is $QTDIR set correctly?"

Any suggestions?

Are you running opie or gpe?  I have the same wireless card and have gotten it to work under both.

In Opie, I plugged in the card, set the wifi info under settings/network, and it connected to my wlan.

In GPE, there is still a bit of work to be done, however after plugging in the card, I went to a command line and typed: iwconfig wlan0 essid <wlan_id>
You will need to re-issue this command only once after every reboot, but you should be up and running then.

Note that I have heard there may still be issues with WEP settings, however it you're not using WEP, you should have no problems.

5x00 Hardware / Sharp Serial Connector
« on: December 05, 2004, 10:13:14 pm »
1) See the wiki at http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...name=SerialPort
TONS of useful info there, including my own additions on wiring the connector for the digitraveller GPS.

2) Edit /etc/inittab.  You will likely find a line similar to this:
S:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyS0
(NOTE the ttyS0 - that's your serial port)
Comment out the line by inserting a # at the beginning.  Then issue the command "init q" or reboot your Z.  Serial port is now available for use by devices.

3)  Also located in the wiki... issue the following commands:
stty 4800 -F /dev/ttyS0
cat /dev/ttyS0

You should see all of the information passing over the serial port.  Hit Ctrl-C to stop the data stream.

You can buy the connectors individually from http://www.fivestarassoc.com/Z/index.html for $8 each or a 5-pack for $35.

I ordered one from them awhile back.  It's been holding up nicely on my GPS.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Does Opera Segv For Anyone Else On 3.5.2?
« on: December 02, 2004, 02:44:26 am »
FYI I just installed Opera under 3.5.2/Opie.  The symlink in /usr/share was required, and I also had to do a bit of fiddling with the compat files after installed oz-compat.  Specifically, I installed to SD and had to do the following:

# ln -s /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop.compat/ /opt/
# ln -s /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/makecompat /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/
# ln -s  /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/runcompat /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/

After that I was able to makecompat opera, and am now browsing.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Anybody Compile Flite Or Roadmap For 3.5.1?
« on: November 30, 2004, 02:25:25 pm »
For what it's worth, I have been unable to get roadmap to work under either opie or gpe 3.5.1.  I have not yet tried to compile my own package though.

RoadGPS however did partially work under opie using the compat lib, however due to the math problems, it was unable to calculate the GPS positions.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / No Sound OZ 3.5.1 SL5600
« on: November 12, 2004, 11:39:16 am »
I've gotten no sounds at all on my 5500 under GPE.  I had assumed that was another of those reasons why it wasn't ready for general usage yet, but you're saying it should be working?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / A few questions about OZ/OE
« on: November 09, 2004, 07:34:24 pm »
And if I had an account on either of those sites, I could see the progress...

Hey Mickeyl - is there a page where a plain old user such as myself can go to pull the latest development copy of the OZ images (maybe from CVS)?  I'd certainly like to see where GPE has gotten since the 3.5.1 release.  I wouldn't be able to contribute any code, but am certainly a willing tester.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wifi under OZ3.5.1/GPE
« on: November 08, 2004, 01:31:58 pm »
Actually, no I didn't.  You should be able to set the WEP keys in wireless.opts, or in the network config utility.  The script /etc/pcmcia/wireless actually does all the appropriate iwconfig calls already, and appears to be the same one being used in Opie, it just needed some minor tweaks to work with what's available.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wifi under OZ3.5.1/GPE
« on: November 05, 2004, 01:36:18 pm »
I am using a D-Link DCF-660W and have noticed under gpe that when the card is inserted, WLAN0 shows up under ifconfig, however there is no attempt made to connect to a network.  After speaking with Kergoth last night, I realize that this is not the 'proper' way to fix this problem, however I wanted to document that the issue can be fixed without installing any new software, it just requires editing some files.

(Note that everything listed below is done by editing files.  I realize there are some GUI utilities already in place which would do some of these modifications, but I documented everything from the command line.)

Edit /etc/pcmcia/network
 comment out line 66 --> # exit 0
(This line exits the scripts after adding wlan0 to ifconfig.  It prevents the wireless script from ever being called)

 beginning at line 145, add the following block...
(Required because dhcpcd and dump are not present on this build)

Code: [Select]
elif [ -x /sbin/udhcpc ]; then
    log "/sbin/dhcpc -f --interface=$DEVICE & > /dev/null" || exit 1

edit /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts
(This can also be set up from the WLAN config, or the network config utilities)
Code: [Select]
    case "$ADDRESS" in
    *,*,*,*)
  ESSID=your_ssid
  MODE=ad-hoc
  CHANNEL=1
  RATE=auto
    ;;
    esac

edit /etc/pcmcia/network.opts
(Also can bet set up from the network config utility)
Code: [Select]
 DHCP="y"
After making these changes, I was able to successfully connect to my WLAN, pull DHCP info from the network, and ping out to the internet.  The connection is noticably slow - it takes about 10-15 seconds to actually set everything up, but at least it gets me online until the OZ team is able to put out there next release.

5x00 Hardware / SL-5500 Memory Limits?
« on: November 04, 2004, 05:14:16 pm »
Actually the spec for the CF slot really did say 137GB, although 127 would seem to be a more reasonable cutoff point.  I don't claim to be an expert with CF or SD hardware, I'm just making suggestions based on what I do know.

3.5.1/Opie certainly has a lot of new features, not to mention the newer kernel.  I am actually working with 3.5.1/gpe at the moment to see what I can do with it.  As stated in the wiki, it's not really usable on a daily basis right now, but it's got a LOT of potential!

5x00 General discussions / Tried to format SD as ext2, now doesn't mount
« on: November 04, 2004, 03:34:25 pm »
Oh one more thing... you mentioned this is a Sandisk card?  Let's just say that Sandisk is not the most reliable card to use on a Z.  Some people use them with no problems.  The rest of us... don't.

My first SD card was a Sandisk 256MB.  Preformatted as FAT.  Worked ok, but was unusable to me without being formatted as ext2.  After formatting the first time, the card worked for 2 days, then became unreadable.  I formatted again, but it would corrupt information every time I rebooted.  After 4 days the card was unreadable, so I put it back in the card reader on my Windows machine and reformatted to FAT.  The card completely failed all testing and would no longer work in any device, and I had been using it for less than a week.

Many other people have reported problems with Sandisk.  The cards do not seem to be sub-standard quality and work reliably in other devices, but there have been many issues reported when used with the zaurus.  All I can say is best of luck...
