Freebird,
I'm not sure what got the fonts working because I did not notice it until I surfed off of the home page.  The option GUI is in one of the dillo menus that you get by tapping next to the address box.  When I changed the zoom fxn to 1.2 I think that did it.  
Another possibility is that I changed styles to minimal, the fourth style down in the blackbox menu.  That style has beautiful antialiased fonts.  You get the blackbox menu by shift tapping the screen.  The blackbox menu, from what I google, can easily be customized.

Dillo keeps its configuration info in a file called dillorc, fun to edit, but I don't know where cacko hides it.

Thanks for indirectly reminding me to do a nand backup, now that its working the way I want it.  

Both XFT and PDAXROM would benefit from the same attention to default fonts in applications evident in CACKO.  My middle aged eyes love cacko and struggle otherwise.

If none of this works let me know and I will list the longshots I tried.  Good luck

Hey Freebird,

Thanks for the help, SUDO and explaining remounting did the trick for me.  Bluetoothing Dillo to verizon EVDO is so much faster than any so called smart phone.  What a kick.  I was worried because the default fonts and themes looked so dreary but a little bit of tweaking blackbox themes  and dillo / Fluxbox looks as good as PDAXROM equivalents.

Hi all

Now all the cramfs (xqt,xqtapps and openoffice) are installed on my C860 and every thing is ok,

But openoffice takes too much time to load, more than 4 Minutes
So i have uncompressed it and copy it to my cf it takes about 250Mo
than i modified runxqtoo to point directly to openoffice scalc, the result is amazing it needs only 2Minutes 20" to launch all xqt minideb openoffice and spreadsheet !!!

but i think that i have to do some more tweaking may be change some other paths in some other files i don't knew cause some times it launches and some other times it doesn't

my question is

first What do you think about having openoffice as uncompressed files instead of cramfs since memory space is not a problem on sd or cf (prices have go down)

second do you knew what other tweaking i have to do to make it run from cf
without problem

Freebird, if you get a chance could you post a brief "idiots guide" for how you got the cramfs to work on a c860.  I had to resort to the xqt ipk and am curious what I was doing wrong.  Thx and enjoy.

When I install it on a FAT32 SD card in an c700 running the most recent CACKO ROM, the installation shell runs showing many files being linked.  But if I click on the start X file or type xlauncher or xqt start x in the console, no response.

Suggestions anyone?

If I need to edit anything or add a script appreciate suggestions how to do it in cacko, thx

I had the same problem with the cannot execute binary file.  It is because the shell file you download from meanie's site is a gz file.  It was easy to "decompress" following instructions from googling.  After that I also found you had to use the "cd" command to have the terminal pointing to the directory where you want to install.  Otherwise, the shell does not find the installation problems.

2nd nature to anyone who uses linux daily.  A refresher course for the rest of us.  Good luck.

Meanie

1- If i want to install the cramfs images to /home can i use the first version of xqt-install.sh with the new xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs

2- In fact my gaol is to mount the  xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs then copy xqt-gtk-jumbo directory to  /home
 then to run xqt-setup from it (in other words to install xqt directly in the flash memory to avoid problems of mounting the cf)
I did it with the first xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs and it works,
but with the new release i have this prompt when trying to run ./xqt-setup from /home/xqt-gtk-jumbo directory:

 #bash: ./xqt-setup: cannot execute binary file

 what this prompt mean ?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrbluetooth Blues Socket Revg To Moto E815,

Sdptools is able to read the mac address from my motorola phone and confirm that DUN is enabled. Cardctl identifies the card correctly consistent with the usart config file. But the two bluetooth GUIs seem to ignore the card. PPP dialer won't recognize rfcomm 0 device, and and PPP modem won't find DUN. I have tried manually entering the phone MAC address and DUN channel into the relevant file but the modem, if you save the settings, overwrites the file, so that when you reboot right after bluetooth starts you get a complaint about parse line 3 error.

Very frustrating because it is close to working. I'm using RC11 on an c860. Any help gratefully appreciated.

I'm also trying to connect directly using pppd so I would welcome any suggestions on how to bypass the GUIs using the terminal.  In theory, I have the relevant info, like phone bluetooth address but in practice I have not even figured out how to copy text from the terminal.  

I'll be checking the board every few hours over the weekend when I'm not on kid watch.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mplayer With Bvdd And Full Screen 320x240

bvdd should bypass X and write directly to the frame buffer, what you need to do is feed mplayer the correct command line aurguments which are over in the c3k software fourm, as far as i know the latest kino on the cakco website automatically detects and issues the correct command line args

try this, mplayer -vo bvdd -fs -vm <moive file>

Well here is the Deal I spoke with Jack today he is in charge of Iodata buisness relations. He said they have 10 total units left in stock as of today. Once they are gone there will be no more units. They generally sell 5 units a day so by the weekend there will be no more.

Hi all.
I got my stylus out.
In the meantime I am using an old palm stick that is somewhat longer but fits ok.
I live in Israel so it is a little problem to find.
Anyone can point me?

Great that it has an ink pen built in.  Nice weight and metal feel.  To get a perfect tight fit I put a little scotch tape around middle.  

OT, before zaurus I had a palm phone.  When my orthodox geek relatives tried to beem me prayers (at a funeral no less) the phone crashed losing all my data (until resync).  The joys of zaurus / linux

I don't use the Z 4 GPS.  Nothing on the Z can do verbal directions that corrects the route as you blunder.  I'd be dead by now if I had to look down at the Z everytime I get lost in the car.

Ipaq 1935 / 1940 (model with bluetooth d/ced, 100-150 fleabay)
generic bt gps direct from hk                           100-150 FB
100     iNavigator or Tom Tom 5 (eiher works well, sadly no linux equivalent for Z)

For hiking or biking u just get an antanae which weights next to nothing to "wear".  The
BT GPS is like a hockey puck and you would not want to have to have it always facing the satellites.

I wonder if there is some way to use dosbox to get an old gps program that can compute verbal directions 4 Z.

But c860 is the lexus / mercedes of pdas.  It should hold its value better.  Look at this link.  Continuing the used car analogy you, as an individual should expect to get somewhat less.  Best way to price is see what they go for on ebay.  Good luck.

Verizon works at about 128, depending on the signal you're getting.

Also, there's a number you can dial into which will just use up your normal air time minutes, it's supposed to be for business customers.

Some of the Verizon EV-DO phones could in theory be hooked up to a Z using serial cables.  Is the 128 a function of bluetooth.  Seems slow for broadband.  Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xmms Keeps On Hanging In Rc11...

The xmms still keeps hanging in rc11, despite using the "disable suspend" option. I flashed rc11 yesterday and today my Zaurus froze totally while biking to work and listening to music. In addition to the "disable suspend", I had also unwisely selected the "blank screen" option, so when I lost all sound, my Zaurus was both showing blank screen and was totally unresponsive to all keypresses. So I had no practical way to see what was going on or even if my Zaurus was alive or not. Any hints I could do apart from rebooting by removing the battery?

I'm really   about this. I really don't care about various kernel tweaks but I'd really like to have applications that actually work in quite typical usage scenarios.

 Mine has the same problem but not when its plugged in only on batteries.
I had not gotten to disable suspend yet.  Worst case for me is to use my adapter to run the z860 / pdaX on double A batteries.  From the Z's perspective it thinks its charging and won't suspend.

I agree it is a frustrating problem.  But that is the price for being on the bleeding edge despite the developers shoestring budget.
