Sure thng..
In .xinitrc remove the line that has xrandr in it.
To calibrate your mouse -
In terminal before you do a startx run ts_calibrate as root.
Then when you do a startx everything should be ok.

Good luck!

Ubuntu / Zubuntu And Users, Gnome-system-tools
« on: January 15, 2009, 11:48:13 pm »
Hi all,
Still having fun playing around with zubuntu but I'm playing as root which makes me nervous!
I can create users from command line but gnome system tools doesn't seem to work.
I get the error "You are not allowed to access the system configuration" when running from root.
If I run "network-admin" from terminal, I get the error:
** (network-admin:1656): CRITICAL **: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch_helper: Success

Has anyone been able to get this running?
Has anyone been running as non-root?

Thanks
 Mike

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Rotation - Doesn't On Sl-c860
« on: January 14, 2009, 10:58:19 pm »
Thanks for the reply!
doing a manual rotate works but swinging the screen does nothing.
1 - portrait
0 - landscape

The events don't seem to trigger.

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Rotation - Doesn't On Sl-c860
« on: January 14, 2009, 09:05:07 pm »
Regarding rotation, I saw some references to x11-xserver-utils and xrandr to get rotation working.
I have both but changing the orientation of my SL-C860 doesn't do anything.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Working - Mostly - Except Pidgin

have you tried running it with "strace" to see what happens in the run-up to segfaulting?

Its quite a long output but the error might be related to:

open("/usr/lib/gconv/gconv-modules.cache", 0_RDONLY) = 3

After that it has a few lines, a "close(3) and then the dump.
Any help?

I really don't know what I'm doing here with this but I saw that the gconv-modules.cache had a much earlier timestamp than other files so I renamed it and tried again. Still segfaults.
There are references to "no such file or directory" for a few locations such as:

Could there be dependencies that aren't met?

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Working - Mostly - Except Pidgin

I managed to get zubuntu working - mostly on my SL-C860 with some tweaks, edits and manual IP address.
Pidgin unfortunately segfaults whenever it is run - I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck.
Not sure about that one but otherwise it looks great!

Thanks! Got the file and put it onto the SD card. The symbol is now blinking so that probably does it!
Now to wrestle with iwconfig.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. I hope I don't have to update the firmware. It works with Cacko and Angstrom - not sure what is different. I searched and didn't see anything for the firmware so if you have it I could try it. Not sure how I would upgrade it since I have mainly Apples or Linux desktop-wise.

I wasn't getting any response to the card at first but after searching, I ran:

modprobe pxa2xx_cs

Looks like something to do with firmware because I get the message:

spectrum_cs: Cannot find firmwared: symbol_sp24t_prim_fw
spectrum_cs: Firmware download failed
hermes @ c4880000: Timeout waiting for card to reset (reg=0x0000)!
eth0: failed to initialize firmware (err = -110)
spectrum_cs: register_netdev() failed

Thanks!

Some progress - I edited .xinitrc and it helped but the mouse is way off. Is there a way to calibrate it?
Thanks!
 mike

I do get an error "Extended Input Devices not yet supported. when I abort startx

ts_calibrate does the trick. Now I have to figure out how to configure networking with a symbol technologies card I guess.

Hi Cortez,
This looks like a promising release but I haven't had any luck with my SL-C860. I went through changing the event2 to event1 for the touchscreen but when startx runs, it opens a window in "portrait" mode but upside-down. I have the zaurus open for the keyboard.

Mouse clicks are far off the mark.

At bootup I get

/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1313: Cannot open /var/lib/alsa/asound.state for reading: No such file or directory
Can't open display :0
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1251: No soundcards found...

I hope to get it running to see how it does but have only command line for now.

Unfortunately the link is dead below. Does anyone have the Symbol Spectrum24 Firmware or know where I can get it?

Thanks,

General Discussion / Who Uses Sl-cxx00 For Serious Work?
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:14:34 am »
I use it for work extensively as PIM and notetaker which keeps me on Cacko ROM. I use Textmaker for word synchronization, occasionally Hancom sheet for simple spreadsheets. I stay away from other PIMs mainly because I need one button synchronization with our corporate exchange server.

Outside of work I use Opie-Reader more than anything - occasionally watch videos with kino and muck around with Ruby and Rails.

I wish it would BIDIRECTIONALLY sync with my IMac.

Linux Applications / Ruby-sqlite3 Support?
« on: February 02, 2006, 12:44:05 pm »
Hi all,
I recently got the 1.8.3 release of ruby installed on my C860 which also let me put gem and install rails. I also have SQLITE3 working.

HOWEVER, the ruby-sqlite3 gem installation requires some native compiling. I suppose I could try to get that working but I wondered if anyone out there has already compiled support to bind the two together.

Failing that, does mysql work with rails on the Z?

TIA,
 Mike

Sharp ROMs / Qtopia Crash - Cacko 1.23 Lite
« on: November 09, 2005, 06:47:14 pm »
Thanks for the reply - I do remember the magnified display issue but I never use that mode. As I said its a bit sporadic but annoying. With 1.21 it would happen without warning once in awhile. Seems to be similar behavior. Maybe I'll be able to see more the next time it occurs.

Sharp ROMs / Qtopia Crash - Cacko 1.23 Lite
« on: November 09, 2005, 01:56:42 pm »
I get a sporadic restart of QTopia with Cacko 1.23 lite. The last time this occurred I had Calendar and Textmaker active at the time. There is a sideways - somewhat garbled cardmgr message and then QTopia restarts back to date applet. I seem to recall a similar bug in 1.21 prior to patches. Is it a recurrence?

Anyone else had this? Is it related to screen saver and if so, is there a way to prevent the screensaver from appearing at all?
