Sharp ROMs / Cacko - Java working?

Look for an IPK named something like \"personal-profile\". Believe it or not, that is the java!

General Discussion / How to improve the popularity of Zaurus?

How to improve Zaurus
...well rumors claim that Apple may create a PDA (hard disk based). Sharp has some of the best engineers in the world and markets..um..not so well outside of Japan (being VERY charitable here). Rebrand the SLC-860 or its successor with an Apple and sell \'em like hotcakes.

You have a captive market that loves Microsoft alternatives and has recently been dissed by Palm (exiting their Apple support). This is the niche that they failed to find previously.

Linux interoperates very well with OSX via NFS or other technologies. Apple has the hard disk compact enough already in their IPOD. Sounds like synergy to me.

Sharp ROMs / my feedback on "Daniela".
« on: March 09, 2004, 02:51:19 pm »
I confirm the stretched screen bug which was there in the previous version of the cacko ROM. It actually only crashes QTopia, not a full reboot. I also had sporadic QTopia restarts with both the previous and sadly this version of the ROM. The screen will go black with a sideways message (too hard to read), followed by a blank white screen and eventually the time setup. I suspect it is only QTopia crashing here too. Usually occurs when the screen saver is active.

But aside from these, its the best ROM out there until PDAXRom gets full PIM synch!

Sharp ROMs / Cacko ROM Question
« on: March 07, 2004, 12:21:51 pm »
With MC I\'ve noticed that the mouse doesn\'t work in QKonsole since the new ROM. Mousing seems to select text in MC - maybe the konsole is intercepting it? Otherwise, the new ROM is awesome!

Sharp ROMs / OK, Now the Real New Cacko Qtopia ROM
« on: March 05, 2004, 12:09:27 pm »
Moving to new thread as requested since this the the \"right\" version
Is it possible to backup the previous Cacko QT ROM, flash the new one (after repartitioning to 26 meg) and then recover from the prior backup?

TIA,
 Mike

Sharp ROMs / New 7x0 Qtopia Rom from Sash
« on: March 05, 2004, 12:03:18 pm »
1. Haven\'t installed this version (dl\'ing as we speak) but in prior version, yes.
2. Search on NAND - you can\'t restore a regular backup, but can revert to NAND backup which is bit by bit copy so partitioning shouldn\'t be a factor
3. Yes it has wireless - don\'t know about Wellenreiter.

Sharp ROMs / New 7x0 Qtopia Rom from Sash

Is this compatible enough with the prior sash ROM that I could flash the new ROM and then recover from my backup?
I\'ve done tons of manual \"tweaking\" on applications that I\'d like to avoid if possible.

Sharp ROMs / Best ROM for C860

Anyone using this one yet? I so hate to be the first in the water

On the \"babelfished\" Sharp Spacetown page, there is reference to a new PersonalJava presumably for sale with better support for the Zaurus. Anyone know anything more about this?

Its almost impossible to get the full gist from the babel\'ed text. Looks like it has to be purchased.

General Discussion / Where can I get these Xlibs for use with XQt
« on: March 02, 2004, 11:33:58 am »
The Xqt feed doesn\'t have them. I have the GTK from that feed. As for the PDAXRom, I think the libraries are part of the main ROM. I wasn\'t able to locate them in the feed. Sounds like it will be a bit of a challenge getting  things running though! I keep watching the PDAXRom project for updates, but for now I prefer the hybrid version that Xqt allows.

General Discussion / Where can I get these Xlibs for use with XQt
« on: March 02, 2004, 10:16:49 am »
Does anyone have

libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
libxml2.so.0
libgdk-x11-2.0

that they could post or send to me? Does anyone know where I can download compiled versions of  these?

I am trying to get some XWindows programs running under XQt from the PDAXRom feed and they require these libraries.

I haven\'t been able to locate these anywhere and don\'t want to flash the PDAXRom just to extract them.

TIA,
 Mike

Bought my SL-C860 from him (outside of Ebay though). Shipped in 5 days and negotiated with me for two units - gave a discount on shipping 2 units instead of one. No complaints!

X/Qt / Xqt
« on: March 01, 2004, 02:23:45 pm »
No problem, mainly ignornance  I know there are many libraries that are in the PDAXrom and are not part of the XQt feed. I just don\'t have that definitive list nor do I know where to get the missing libraries (I do have the PXA processor). I suppose I could go into the source for the ROM and figure it out, just hoping someone had done that already. I notice that in the Packages file for Cacko, there is rarely any mention of dependencies - not surprising since everything is geared to run with that particular ROM installation.

X/Qt / Xqt
« on: March 01, 2004, 12:34:47 pm »
Has anyone tried making an ipk of some of the PDAXrom libraries? I\'d love to see something done with them like the libopie library did for Opie. It would be great if we could install and run the cacko-X stuff on the XQt version. On a side note, has anyone got XMMS performing acceptably under XQt? I can make it run, but it starts and stutters badly on MP3 files - I\'m assuming it may not be fast enough under this XServer.

Cxx0 General discussions / Warning - Tetsu kernel doesn\'t work on SL-C860
« on: February 29, 2004, 07:19:40 pm »
That part of the page is new  I had emailed the site author. When I\'m feeling adventurous I may try the install again. For now, I\'m leaving well enough alone. I had tried the Tetsu kernel primarily because I was experience semi-frequent reboots with the Cacko kernel.
