Mac Issues / C860 USB mount on a Mac?
« on: February 10, 2004, 08:20:05 am »
I usually simply resort to a USB cardreader on my Mac. Alot simpler! I also have been able to use the wireless card to mount OSX folders vis NFS - This requires setting up NFS exports on the Mac first.

General Discussion / The FCC has the manual for the SL-6000
« on: February 07, 2004, 10:30:51 pm »
Back when I owned Windows computers, I did use my SL5500 to connect via Samba to a Win2000 professional computer. I had to install the smbclient program, but it worked fine. Now with OSX and  a few Linux boxes, I use NFS also effectively, or when I\'m lazy, I just shuffle files via a SmartDisk memory card reader. I suspect the 6000 will work too. I now use an SLC860 myself and won\'t be getting a 6000. I REALLLY like the clamshell design. When I have the keyboard open, I want landscape, not portrait.

Software / Powerpoint viewer on SLC860 with Cacko ROM?
« on: February 06, 2004, 03:18:57 pm »
I actually own a 5500 (son is using it now), and I was able to get the hancom package installed (they require a serial number from the 5500 to download). Thanks for the help!

I really don\'t know why it wasn\'t included with the 860 since with 640x480, its the first time that the ppt viewer would actually be usable!

Software / Awesome App!

I hope the author goes to supporting Paypal. If the rough edges of the beta are worked out, it seems well worth it.

The \"Plus\" version is apparently a time-limited beta (expired on Jan 31st here). I went back to the non-plus version for now since there doesn\'t seem to be a way to even buy the plus version yet. Its a great application though!

General Discussion / which extra gui in addition to X11 to implement?
« on: January 30, 2004, 04:11:50 pm »
Since you ask for a preference, I would say qtopia. I believe (perhaps incorrectly?) that the majority of users use qtopia still in some form or another. I have a c860 myself and keep watching the X11 ROM developments. My need to synch with Outlook at work keeps me with the cacko qtopia ROM for now.

Software / Powerpoint viewer on SLC860 with Cacko ROM?
« on: January 29, 2004, 10:08:42 am »
I was wondering if anyone is able to view powerpoint presentations using the cacko (or any other) ROM on the SLC860. I am unable to view presentations. I also noticed that the \"About\" on the Presentation application is copyrighted \'Sharp\' and not HancomLinux.

Is the HancomPresenter not part of the ROM image?

TIA,
 Mike

General Discussion / What ROMS are you using?
« on: January 28, 2004, 12:55:43 pm »
I have a SLC860 and almost immediately put the cacko Qtopia ROM onto it. It works wonderfully. I have 2 other Linux machines at home and an IMac, but my synch has to be with Exchange at work. More than anything, this keeps me from the X11 ROM.

The only unfortunate side is that I believe the cacko Qtopia ROM is \"functionally stabilized\" - no active development since that team is moving onto the X11 version full force.

I read some posts with the TKC ROM requiring tweaks to program ipks so haven\'t tried that one plus not having a kernel in it, it is confusing as to which kernels work well or not at all with the TKC ROM.

General Discussion / Zaurus or Linux On an Ipaq? Opinions?
« on: January 23, 2004, 03:05:44 pm »
If screen quality is a concern, try to get one of the japanese C7x0 or c860s. I got one imported and the screen is 4x sharper than the 5600 having a 640x480 screen (same size as 5x00s). It is incredible! There are various importers that can get the units (dynamism.com, thekompany.com) or do a search on ebay for providers. Alternatively you could hold out for the Sharp 6000 model which also has the new screen.

Sharp ROMs / ROM juggling on SLC860
« on: January 21, 2004, 07:15:33 pm »
Thanks for the advice! If I switch, I\'ll definately try the NAND backup. So far haven\'t found a compelling reason to switch from the Cacko Qtopia ROM but I\'ll keep reading. The X11 ROM sounds cool, but without full synch with Exchange at work, I won\'t be able to use it. Maybe someday...

Sharp ROMs / ROM juggling on SLC860
« on: January 21, 2004, 12:16:50 pm »
What is the best method for \"ROM juggling\" on the C860? I\'m currently using the Cacko Qtopia ROM and was wondering if there is any compelling reason to try the TKRom.

If I decide to do so, how do you manage your installations, preferences etc when bouncing from ROM to ROM?

TIA,
 Mike

Software / 860 app views?
« on: January 20, 2004, 02:04:57 pm »
Are you referring to the the \"magnified screen\" option for 5500 programs? I had the same question recently and if you hold down the icon and uncheck the \"Display with magnified screen\", it displays properly on the 860.
Hope this helps!

I\'m running thr Cacko Qtopia ROM on my C860. Both browsers run fairly well but Opera will not download any ipk fikes. I fet a prompt saying \"receiving from...\" but no prompt to save the files. Netfront however runs fine including downloads. Has anyone else run into this?
