I no longer have problems with 320x240, 512bit, 30 frames/sec and Kino/Cacko 1.23 on my c860 using:

Code: [Select]
mencoder $1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -vf pp=lb,scale=320x240,rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts -ofps 30000/1001 vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:v4mv:vbitrate=512:vpass=1 -oac copy -sws 2 -o output.avi

mencoder $1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -vf pp=lb,scale=320x240,rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts -ofps 30000/1001 vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:v4mv:vbitrate=512:vpass=2 -oac copy -sws 2 -o output.avi
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=116143\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I've modified the lines so that they'll (almost) run on my 'doze box:

Code: [Select]
c:\progra~1\mplayer\mencoder %1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -vf pp=lb,scale=320:240,rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts -ofps 30000/1001 vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:v4mv:vbitrate=512:vpass=1 -oac copy -sws 2 -o %2

c:\progra~1\mplayer\mencoder %1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -vf pp=lb,scale=320:240,rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts -ofps 30000/1001 vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:v4mv:vbitrate=512:vpass=2 -oac copy -sws 2 -o %2
But I can't get past this error:

Code: [Select]
F:\zvids>encode-movie infile.avi avi outfile.avi

I don't see 'frameno.avi' anywhere on the command line, and I've used the '-ofps' options in other attempts. Any ideas anyone? thks

Hi !
frameno.avi is made automatic by the pass 1 and automatic taken as input to the pass 2 run so if the pass 2 do not find it something went wrong in the pass 1.

Does this mean that it is possible to use java 1.4 with Swing on the Zaurus?
Has anybody tried it on some real applications?

Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone has try'ed to use the mini usb plug on the c7xx to connect to other usb device's .  I have used it to have a usb tcpip connection to another PC with internet connection, but should it not be possible to us it to a usb wlan device or a usb bluetooth device?  If this is not possible is there anybody who can give some detail of which kind of plug it is and what it can be used for ?

Thank You!

The 100K executable is what I like, apart from the fact that it supports the full "blue book" JVM specification, is open source and uses the GNU Classpath Java class library. I
Hi !
Great work and I will try it out when it is in some feed. Have you tested any Swing application? Is it possible to say which version of Sun java the JVM is compatible with.

Hi !

I have tested the blackdown 1.3  version om RC 8 with two rather heavy Swing applications and it worked just fine. After install of ipkg package then reboot (a must!) and export  JAVA_HOME  and update PATH to point to the folder with the java program file (as documented elsewhere in this forum).  It takes some time to start java programs, but once started they behave like ordinary programs. I will try out to move the java programmed parts  from java 1.4 and 1.5 to the Z to see if it is possible to get some of the new function on top of the 1.3 JVM.

Most of the new api in java 1.4 and 1.5 are written in java itself .  If I read the Sun documentation right almost all Swing code is written in java. Maybe one could use the VM code from the blackdown 1.3 and take other stuff that is written in java from 1.4 or 1.5  . Some api wil not function but most will do the job ... Just  a thought ...

Following the instructions as described here I am currently stuck with the compilation of Motif, and this is only the first step

Can any of you guys tell me if it is even worth considering that I continue?
Really cool that anybody try to compile java !! The hope of being able to run full java on the Z is what makes pdaXrom the thing for me.

You say you have problems with Motif .  How can we help? What kind of problems?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / pdf viewer for pdaxrom?
« on: December 14, 2004, 09:47:52 am »
Just to explain: when I were using qpdf2 on cacko I could be almost sure I would be able to read any pdf. With Xpdf ported I'm quite sure that I'll have some problem with pdfs. Actually it's better to translate'em in html docs via google. Tha funny part is that qpdf2 let you read pdfs as plain text, so it has also the google service feature, we can say
The xpdf homepage is :

Qpdf2 is built on xpdf so it is strange that it should behave a lot better...
Also the xpdf can read pdf files as text files according to xpdf documentation:

"The Xpdf project also includes a PDF text extractor, PDF-to-PostScript converter, and various other utilities."

Rather then starting a new project  join the xpdf project and address the problems with xpdf to the project.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Are you running pdaXrom and for what?
« on: December 09, 2004, 05:02:32 am »
Wait a minute, how are you listening to shoutcast streams?
My thoughts exactly - I even started a thread about this!
A small workaround for this is to use mplayer..

1. wget the playlist file to disk (mplayer in pdaXrom can't retrieve it from the net):

bash-3.00# wget

2. cat the file and find the shoutcast server url (the part you want is in bold):

bash-3.00# cat trance96k.pls
Title1=D I G I T A L L Y - I M P O R T E D - Trance channel! (US Ultravox)

3. open the server url with mplayer:

bash-3.00# mplayer

4. To adjust the volume just run XMMS and even in stop mode it adjusts the volume fine..

Hope this helps

(btw that stream is 's main trance stream, great stuff)
I have not try'ed it on the Z but normally you can use mplayer with playlist..
In the example given try :

mplayer -playlist

Probably one want  to set the cache parameter also because the default mplayer seems high and it take some time to fill it up.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Status Update..

It is great to get a date for release, but also the team is doing this in not paid time and that is impressive !! Even though I am eager to get started with the new rom I rather have some initial information and maybe have to wait longer than stated then not to know anything. It is great that Laze keep this forum updated, and it is also great that they take the time they need.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / streaming to the Z with VLC.
« on: December 02, 2004, 06:05:30 am »
Hi !
To watch streaming movies on the Z one can use VLC to stream to the Z, but also easy'er is to use a web server.  Mplayer can stream through http.  Just remember if you go throug firewall to export  http_proxy=http://your.firewall.ip:port  before you start mplayer.
