Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Collie, Mplayer, Libmad0 Don't Run
« on: October 29, 2006, 05:32:26 pm »
Code: [Select]
root@collie:~# mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libmad.so.0: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Error 14
root@collie:~#

That's on a SL5500 (Collie), using both the latest OZ 3.5.4 and the Hentges ROM 3.5.4.1.  Something wrong here?

Makes me wonder if XMMS is having the same problems...  nope, doesn't have that problem.

Still wondering about recompiling MPlayer to work on 2.4 kernel Collie in 3.5.4.

well, I didn't find anything in the makefile about that, and I was just about to try recompiling it from source when I decided to try the 2.6 kernel, and for whatever reason - that worked perfectly. so, STrRedWolf, I recommend you try the same thing, if you haven't already upgraded to the 2.6 kernel. I love mplayer. I run it on everything, and it was really sad when I couldn't get it working on my zaurus, but everything works nearly flawlessly. for some reason, I can only get sound when using headphones, but I honestly don't care. the internel speaker is a bit too quite for me anyway.

Negative on 2.6 with the collie models.  No sound basically kills mplayer right off, and no SD card kills me going 2.6 anyway.  Ether mplayer is unhardened or I upgrade to the Cxx00 models.

Checked with the Hentges 3.5.4.1 collie ROM, with CardFS.  Mplayer is still toast, same error.

Im not quite sure what you mean. Patches welcome.

My SL5500 using the OZ/Opie stable (Not 3.5.4.2.rcX) has Mplayer on SD, plus the libs for it.  However, every time I run mplayer I get a responce:

Code: [Select]
root@collie:~# mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libmad.so.0: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Error 14
root@collie:~#

However, since this is mplayer 1.0pre8, and there's support for not using the exec stacks, all you need to do is pass a switch to ./configure.  It's already patched.

Can I get Mplayer bumped and compiled without executuable stack support? 1.0pre8 supports that.

Zaurus SL-5500, OE latest stable.  Every time I try to run Mplayer:

Code: [Select]
root@collie:~# mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libmad.so.0: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Error 14
root@collie:~#

Any ideas?  I've already removed this and all the dependencies, and then reinstalled it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Usb-net Not Working In Collie -r21 Kernel

You should comment out all of the feeds except the upgrades/collie one so that only the kernel modules are upgraded.

Try running 'usbnet start' - the usbnet script should be somewhere under /etc iirc.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Usb-net Not Working In Collie -r21 Kernel

I have a 5500SL (collie) that was a bitch to upgrade (Opie kept wanting to update -- I deleted enough space to make it go through).  One flash later, everything seems normal... until I try to transfer files over USB.

Nope, no go.  Tried the old "Remove every module related to it" trick, and had to reboot my zaurus because it stuck on the Return key.

Out on a whim, I pulled up the terminal and typed in "dmesg":
Code: [Select]
usbdm: usbd_monitor 0.3 035 2002-06-12 20:00
monitor_request_irq: 23 44
monitor_request_irq: failed: -16
usbdm: request irq failed.

unload and reload usbdmonitor, and the IRQ is gotten... but now my touchscreen doesn't work, and USBnet still doesn't work.

A reboot doesn't help with the USB issue.  At least I can get wifi out to update things if need be...

Is there any reason why OZ (latest release) has qpe-font-* recommending some USB kernel drivers?  The package manager's complaining about it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / mp3 skips and blips in XMMS w/OZ 3.5.1 on 5500

I've now given the hentges roms (3.5.2) a try - problem seems to have dissapeared.
Haven't used my Zaurus for a while but the skipping problem is back  - how would I force OZ to buffer the contents of an MP3 to cache before playing it (or something else that would solve the problem)?

I have a feeling that it's just that the SD port's specs doesn't allow for a certian speed, while the CF port does.  For example, a 64Kbps Ogg gives the popping on 3.5.1 off of a 128 Meg SD card.

It's a hardware problem.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Best Cf Wireless Card For Oz????
« on: December 18, 2004, 03:20:39 pm »
I've had the worst luck with the Linksys WiFi WCF-12 cards.  I've only been able to get a few months use out of the two I've had, although I've dropped my 5500 too many times to excuse it from being part of the problem.  I have tried both faulty cards in my laptop... and they don't work.

Ugh.

The one from Expansys is what I have.

You need to have the stream end in .MP3 or .OGG, or else it won't play.

5x00 Hardware / WCF12 install woes
« on: November 05, 2004, 09:16:45 pm »
I also have a WCF12, and it's basically trash.  I gotten mine replaced with another one, and it also failed within a few months.  Those have never worked well for me, or only intermittently.  Try a different card that's not a Linksys.

I got a generic CF to PCMCIA/PC Card adapter off of Ebay for like $15, and it works great in interfacing a Linksys WPC11 to my 5500.
