Ubuntu / Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1 Upgraded To Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Armel

How can I persuade Jaunty to display german umlauts? Is there a simple way?

If yes, how can I input umlauts?
The second part is not as important to me as the first part. I want to use org-mode for emacs on the Z,
but it has to display my text files correctly, else it is unusable for me, what would be a pity.

I had to hardcode Akita as xmodmap to get keypresses in my 860 in .xinitrc.
/proc/cpuinfo returns Husky,

Cxx0 General discussions / C860 & Angstrom ?

Hi,

I recently rediscovered my Zaurus C860 and I thought: let's put another ROM on it, because surfing with the standard Zaurus ROM is terrible, and since I need to do some hacking to get even MiniOpera to work, let's hack it decently now we're at it.

After looking around a bit, I found out OpenZaurus has been superceded by Angstrom.  However, the Angstrom homepage hardly mentions the c7x0 series.  On the downloads, there's only 2007.12 images for akita and poodle, not the c7x0.  If I manually go to the unstable images directory (no link on the site), the c7x0 directory has a subdir for RC1 but it's empty.

I guess it's still in development ?  I wouldn't mind testing it a bit.  Or, is there a stable alternative that's fast and that supports X + most applications ?

There are automatically built images under  http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...autobuild/c7x0/ .
Did not test those, so do not blame me!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Debian On Pdaxrom

Ok--So I'm using pocketworkstation upgraded to etch on pdaxii13v2. with the backports repository I can have firefox2 and nvu, as I've said elsewhere. Everything works great...except that I'd like to be able to use the Fbvnc approach outside of X as well--mostly to zoom Nvu.  I can't seem to do this--I get a segfault line 65(I think) that says error fbvnc 127.0.0.1:1

Any ideas how this might be made to work?  I seem to recall eviljazz suggesting that the cachedfb feature in the pdaXrom kernel might have problems with fbvnc...

I had the same problem of a seg-faulting fbvnc (don't remember the exact error message) . Following the hint on http://zaurusfun.4t.com/index.html I installed
http://www.pocketworkstation.org/files/fbvnc-arm-1.4.gz instead of the included fbvnc.

Worked here for C860 on pdaXrom beta 1 + pdaxrom-custum.tgz.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rxvt Won't Initialize

I also had this problem often in the past.

IIRC mounting devpts manually helped.

mount -t devpts devpts /dev/pts
But I don't know why exactly this helped, and it also didn't always help.
Somehow the amount of available pseudo-ttys was exhausted, maybe becuase the pseudo-ttys didn't get released again after usage.

But this is all only a guess.
Does anyone have definitive information?

An old question, but for the record and the next one looking for a solution:

Most probably because the card was mounted implicitly with -o nodev.
Adding the option 'dev' in /etc/fstab for the sd-card (where I installed pocketworkstation) solved the problem for me.

Hi,

taking the long 'tour de ROMs' probably many of you took
I'm currently at beta1 + pdaXii13-custom on my corgi.
Installation went just fine, no further packages installed.

beta1 alone suspended just fine, augmented with pdaXii13-custom
it does not anymore. :-(

Issuing apm -s on the command line gives the nice power drain,
that won't let your machine wake up the next mornig. Just tried ...

If I click on "Suspend" the screen flickers once and that was all.
Is this known? Is it just me? Does my Z hate me?

Better still: Anybody knows of any workarounds?
Search engine gave no results for suspend + pdaxii13.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.24 - A Wishlist

To clarify, Sharp violated the GPL and did not release full sources to their hacked kernel. If you changed to 2.6 EABI none of the sharp code would run, thereby defeating the point of Cacko as you might as well use OpenZaurus or Angstrom with Opie!

Ah, ok. That GPL violation wasn't clear to me.

Cacko has the one real advantage: it works!

So, for me  the wishlist comes down to
a) 2.6 EABI Kernel + base system similar to cacko 1.23 and as stable!
b) an easy to install toolchain for (cross-)compiling.

Would install that as soon I could get my hands on.

Is this a known issue? Can I provide further info for someone 'who just knows'?

Some numbers:

Before I went to bed
> cat /proc/apm

suspend Z

In the morning
> cat /proc/apm
1.13 1.2 0x02 0x00 0x02 0x04 5% -1

plug in AC; wait about 10 MINUTES ?!
> cat /proc/apm
1.13 1.2 0x02 0x01 0x03 0x08 100% -1

Hmm. What do these numbers mean? Is there a serious
bug in apm? Or do these numbers indicate a dying battery?

Any hints appreciated

Being very happy with pdaXrom on my 860 I wanted to work(!) with it on the
road.

Well. BUMMER. I had it suspended in the evening and it would not wake up, not even boot
again in the morning. After some investigation I found the battery was comlpetely drained.

Some experimentation showed, that my Z sucked power while sleeping.
Over night it would return to 100%, reported in /proc/apm.
Only a few hours later, disconneted from the AC plug but suspended, it was down to 45 %.

Cacko and Angstrom did not behave that way.

Is this a known issue? Can I provide further info for someone 'who just knows'?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Activity

I personally like both PdaXrom and Debian.   I would love to have PdaXrom 198 +SP8 on the Nand and Debian on the SD ... with the ability to choose which I wanted to use.  It would be cool to have PdaXrom there to recover from that one too many apt-get dist-upgrade snafoo's for instance -lol-.  I personally am growing to like u-boot, just need to be able to dual-boot at some point

definitely--a tweaked pda/media nand based 2.6 combined with debian on mass storage would be fabulous--

After struggling for hours and hours to get any EABI system on my 860 I finally gave in and tried
u-boot and r197 + sp8 yesterday.

WOW! It just works! Angstrom may be moving faster, but moving alone doesn't cut it.
How much easier is u-boot than the ever changing updater from angstrom.

Thx for pdaXrom! Now I'm going to learn how to compile for it and my little Z is  alive again.

(and when I could try dualbooting with debian on SD ... that would be cool!)

For the moments to come  pdaXrom will stay on my machine. Keep the good work going!

Debian / How To Install Debian On Your Zaurus (obsolete)

Well, I'm coming closer to a working EABI on my 860.

I installed Angstrom as of Nov. 4th, replaced the kernel with a 2.6.21 version that can cooperate with altboot.
(first I found out that this version of Angstrom refuses to altboot; added info to the wiki)

Installed altboot after some fiddling with Angstrom's Wifi.

Installed armel-rootfs on sd card. (on a loop device, but shoudn't matter)

reboot.

Everything fine!
Because I had forgotten to cp my modules over, I rebooted into Angstrom once more.
Worked like a charm.

Copied modules over.

reboot

altboot doesn't work anymore :-(

Solved: I did not unmount the loop device before rebooting. If doing so I get to debian 4.0!. Now wading through afterinstallation ...

It hangs forever showing [4] CF Card and doesn't react for pressing the "any key".
No [5] advanced does not show up.

Looks like "go back to start" :-(

Anybody with similar experiences?

I only mounted the loop-device on /mnt and cp -a /lib/modules /mnt/lib/moudules, did not play with anything altboot related.

Here it is.... you need to install the 1004 (2.6.22) then replace the kernel and modules attached.
