General Discussion / Linux for desktop?
« on: March 06, 2004, 11:48:42 am »
my first linux distro was Mandrake. suse is good too. I didn\'t particularly like the feel of it, but that\'s me. Both were easy to install without alot of questions. once i got my feet wet, I tried gentoo. I haven\'t been back since. if your not familiar with it, gentoo is a source based distro. it downloads and compiles every app that is installed. They use a tool called emerge (think ipkg on a zaurus) that looks in the portage tree (think Packages in a zaurus feed) and determines dependancies and installs them too. Great tool. the support forums are VERY active and a great source of info.

hope that helps.

Sharp ROMs / OK, Now the Real New Cacko Qtopia ROM

I have two comments:

1) i think the 3rd link (the hostap drivers) is bad on the download at the start of this thread. maybe it should be http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...q=getit&lid=195?

2) I was going to comment on the overclocking thing, but I think that topic should die where it is.
this is a lot less typing anyways

Software / KOrganizer / KO/Pi (KOrganizer Platform independent)

Ko/Pi actually syncs with every local *.ics file.
It syncs with a remote *.ics file via ssh.

oops. my mistake.

It\'s very cool that we zaurus users finally have a strong calendaring / todo app and the fact that is does sync is putting it over the edge.

great work zautrix

as far as i know, ko/pi does not sync with anything, on a windows or linux platform. you can take the file that ko/pi uses (the .ics file) and copy it to another machine or vice versa, but there is no true synchronization.

All outport does is take the calendar information in Outlook and put it in a file that ko/pi uses.

A quick search of the forums didn\'t turn anything up on this so I thought I would mention it.

Here is a link to a win32 app on sourceforge.net call Outport. It exports Outlook data through Outlook\'s COM interface to a variety of formats, including .ics. Though it states \"Evolution Calendar\", the resulting ics file works fine in kopi as well. At least it does on my 860.

Hope this helps someone.

Software / Opera 7.30 and SL-C860
« on: February 26, 2004, 05:28:30 pm »
i\'d first check just to make sure opera is a symlink by using ls at the command prompt.
Code: [Select]
# ls -l
in its parent directory.  the first character on the line should be an l (lowercase L).
after you verified that it is indeed a link, you can either use
Code: [Select]
# ln -fs {source} {link} - or -
Code: [Select]
# rm opera && ln -s {source} {link}
the -f will force the overwrite of the current link. the other line just deletes the link and creates a new link if the delete is successful.

good luck
