6000 - Tosa / Socket Lan Card And Guylhem Fast Kernel
« on: February 02, 2005, 02:49:58 am »
Hi,
I have the socket LAN card, that used to work fine with my 5500.
Itried to use it with my 6000 using the non ffpe fast kernel from Guylhem.
The card is recognized upon insertion, but when I try to connect using it (after having created a LAN connection in the wizard), the LAN option does not appear at all in the connection applet (I only see the WiFi connections I created).

Do you ahve an idea on why this happens and how to solve this?

Thanks,
Adalberto

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Vnc Server For Oz 3.5.2
« on: December 07, 2004, 05:31:57 am »
Hi,
Does a VNC server (like fb-vnc) for OZ3.5.2 exist?

I could not find it in the feed, only Keypeeble, but that's a client.

Thank you,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / FPU and non OE progs
« on: November 07, 2004, 04:59:52 pm »
Hi,
I was wondering if the new fast FP settings in the new OZ can speed up also the programs not specifically compiled for OE and maybe using the compat libs (I was thinking of games like Crimson, exult but also for example the hancomm apps, Hancomm sheet and all spreadsheets should strongly benefit of it!).

I was also thinking of Pocket debian with X-qt.
Will it run at greater speed or not?

Thanks,

Adalberto

6000 - Tosa / Best SDL for SL6000L?
« on: October 31, 2004, 09:55:16 am »
Hi,
I have just received my 6000 and I started palying around with it.
And, strangely (?) my biggest problem is finding a good working version of the SDL libraries.

I tried the Zport version in Bryandeluca feed, the 1.2.6 version I used on the 5500, the 1.2.5 version currently used on the Cxxx models, but all of them have some problems.
When non magnified, Scummvm 0.6 displays but has the lower right part of the screen not painted and the game menu cannot be shown, 0.6.1 works but in a 230x340 screen, Crimson skies and exult freezes and all of them have problems in refreshing at the start screen anyway.
Crimson also starts with the wrong rotation, and therefore the commands are mixed up.
When running magnified, apart of the glitches in the start screen (and the rotation issue in Crimson), the games seem to run, but we lose all the beauty of the Z's great screen!

Did someone have more success than me with SDL games on the 6000?

Shouldn't it be the time to finally have a single usable (and maybe more optimized) SDL library for all the Zauruses?

Adalberto

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Bliss Java on SL6000
« on: October 28, 2004, 05:14:59 am »
Hi,
I am going on in looking for a way to use an intellivision emultaro on the Z.
I tried on the SL6000 the Bliss Java emulator, but apparenlty it is compiled for Java 1.3 and it is not working on the Java version provided with the 6000.
Do you know if there is a way to run this on the 6000 or none of the Java runtimes available will help me?

Thank you,
regards,

Adalberto

Software / Notes program?
« on: October 08, 2004, 02:31:44 am »
Hi,

One of the last thinks (well, probably the last) that makes me have the Sharp PIM on my Z is the fact that Sharp's text editor can read and sync with Outlook's notes.

I would be more than happy to finally get rid of both Sharp Pims and Outlook, but I cannot do it until I do not find a way to copy the notes on another program.

Does something exists that would allow me to copy my notes and use them on a different program or that could sync with Outlook's notes?

Thanks,
Adalberto

General Discussion / Badger racing.com?
« on: October 08, 2004, 02:25:47 am »
Hi all,

for some reasons when I ma connected from my home connection, when I want to access ZUG, I ma always redirected to Badger racing.com!
The IP address is 206.180.232.131 that seems to me the same as the ZUG.
Am I the only one to whom this happens?

Are there any solutions?

Thanks,
Adalberto

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / SL 5500 Buzzer
« on: October 06, 2004, 03:43:47 am »
Hi,

I was not able to test it yet, but is the Buzzer driver working on OZ 3.5.1, or Hentges, as it used to in OZ 3.2.
I know the sound quality is not high, but was anyway an improvement from no sounf at all!

Thanks,

Software / Exult 1.2 problems
« on: July 05, 2004, 09:26:22 am »
Hi,
I tried to Dload the latest Exult 1.2 for the Z, but apparently the file is somehow broken.
It cannot be opened with ipkg and if I try to open it on the pc I receive various errors.
Apparenlty it was badly packaged.
Did someone have the same experience or could you install it corrcetly?

Any solution (I was thinking of the dirty solution of installing an old ipk and then overwrite the exult executable only)?

Ciao,

Sharp ROMs / shared directories only in RO in WinXP
« on: May 30, 2004, 05:42:51 am »
Hi,
I managed to setup samba on TKC ROM1 to make my Z visible in WinXP (for some reasons I had to give the IP range in interfaces, giving only the \"interfaces = ppp0, usb0 ecc\" did not work) while using a BT PAN connection.

Now I can connect to my Z shares, but the problem is that the connecction is only RO!

I tried to change the permission in XP, or to connect using ZAURUSroot as user, but no success, I always receive an error.

Do you have any idea on what could I do to solve this?

Here is my Smb.conf file:

Code: [Select]
[root@zaurus ~]# cat /usr/lib/samba/smb.conf

[global]

# workgroup is either a domain name or a workgroup name

        workgroup = FAM_DONATI

        netbios name = Zaurus

        log file = /dev/null

#

# encrypt passwords is required for Win98, NT and Windows 2000

#

        encrypt passwords = yes

        coding system = utf8

        client code page = 932

        force create mode = 0755

        strict sync = yes

        sync always = yes

#       interfaces = usbd0 eth0 bnep0 irda0 ppp0

        interfaces = 192.168.129.0/24

#       wins support = yes

#       bind interfaces only = yes

[system]

        comment = System Folder

        path = /root/samba

        read only = no

        browseable = no

        guest ok = yes

        force user = root

[home]

        comment = for User Data

        path = /home/samba

        short preserve case = no

        read only = no

        guest ok = yes

        force user = zaurus

Software / Exult issue with Blackgate
« on: March 15, 2004, 05:59:45 pm »
Hi,
I have installed the latest exult package.
I can start the game regularly, but while Serpent Isle is working correctly, when I start Black gate, some sprites (characters) are not drawn, and I see some black square in their place.

Did this happen to someone else?
Do you have an idea on what could I do to solve this?

Thank you very much,
ciao,

General Discussion / Problem writing on a Samba Share
« on: March 15, 2004, 05:52:30 pm »
Hi,

I am running TKC ROM and wanted to mount the samba partition in my Z on my linux box.

I have the Z connected through USB, but I set up samba to accept connection from the different interfaces as per the howto on this site.

I then connect with: mount -t smbfs //192.168.129.201/home /home/zaurus

The conncection is established, but read only, no matter if I connect as user or as root!

If I then try to use linneighborhood, I can identify correctly my Z (using the IP address), and the program sees the home share, but when I try to connect as guest, the connection is somehow \"lost\" and I cannot mount the samba share.

I am a bit confused, I suspect that the problem could be on my linux desktop, but I do not know what to check.

could someone help me here?

Thank you very much!

Adalberto

PS: Under winxp, the file transfer program works well

General Discussion / Outlook Sync status with new XML based PIMS
« on: March 14, 2004, 11:25:40 am »
Hi all,

with the old 2.x ROM and the OZ 3.2 PIM, syncing with Outlook through intellisync was always quite unreliable.
Conflicts not being recognised, appointments not being copied....

With the new intellisync and the DTM PIM,  the situation has dramatically improved.
While it is probably not the most feature-full sync tool, and the PIM lack a lot of functions (and are quite slow on a SL5500), syncing works perfectly.

Before moving away from my DTM base programs I wnated to hear if the new PIM using the XML format (I think especially to OPIE), have improved their syncing ability or the problems above are related to the intellisync software and cannot be avoided (making the sync with these PIM, at least with Outlook, not stable)?

Should I try Qualendar instead?

THank you for your update!

5x00 General discussions / Slow Hancom Sheet
« on: January 30, 2004, 08:31:26 pm »
Hi,

I have tried to open a small (around 160 KB) excel file in Hancom Sheet to work on it on the road.
The file is a sort of personal \"cash book\", so it has 2 sheets and each sheet (Home and bank) has an income and a outcome and sum column. THe sum cell in each row sums the incomes or outocomes of the row and add or substracts them from the previous total.
Quite straightforward and easy!
It has now around 100 rows filled, evenly divided in the 2 sheets!
The problem is that:
1) to load the file, once Hancom sheet is open. it takes around 1 minute from SD
2) to make the recaluclations when I enter a new value it takes around 2 minues (with both automatic or manual recalculation)!

Now, I know that the StrongArm is not an AThlonXP, but this seems to me quite extreme!
We are speaking of around 100 sums!

Is this normal?
Is there a way to improve the performance?
As it is now, it is really badly usable!

Thank you!

General Discussion / Why CF are cards always "ejected" at suspension?
« on: January 21, 2004, 12:47:06 pm »
Hi,

Till now I never considered much more than \"annoying\" the fact that every time you suspend and resume the Z,  a CF card is \"soft ejected and inserted\" (on my TKC ROM 1.0 rom).
This is because I only had a BT card and I never have it connected when I suspend!

But now I have bought a 2.2 GB microdrive, and this problem is becoming a serious issue because:
1) I have crated a swap partition on it and it cannot, of course, work if the CF is continuously ejected and reiserted!
2) I have created 2 partitions, one VFAT and one EXT2. As long as I cannot solve my IDE.OPTS issue (how to automoutn both partition at card insertion!), I have to manually mount the second partition, and it is really irritating if I have to do it at every resume (and this would, for example running zdebiam almost inpossible!)

Why cn an SD card stay in the Z without being continuously ejected and a CF no?
Is there a turnaround to this?

I would be really grateful for any help.

Adalberto
