Debian / Can't Untar Armel-root-fs.tar.bz2
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:15:31 pm »
I am trying to install EABI on my c860, but the untar of the root-fs to ext2 formatted 2GB SD fails with "tar: decompression failed" and "tar: Short header" I have re-downloaded and done the checksum. Am I missing something?

So er will it run on a c860?
Guess that's a 'no' or a 'no one's tried it'? Huh?

Hi. Will the upgrade work on my c860 which I now have running latest pdaxii13?

Also, where are the feeds for this now, tyrannozaurus is offline.

Thanks

John

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problems Installing Angstrom

Details are in this message to the Angstrom list. Anyone here have any ideas? thks

Hi again Grog

I installed an earlier X11 image (the most recent X11 for c7x0).

Actually I did this several times. One time I noted the 2GB SD support. Going to need it, the / partiton is tiny.

One time, I installed this earlier image, and then did ipkg update followed by ipkg upgrade. It went pretty well except for some message at the end about being unable to upgrade the prism driver. I ignored this because it made no sense, asking me to choose between to drivers of exactly the same name, and not even telling me how to.

So I rebooted, I get an Angstrom splash screen instead of the old OE one. Nice. But you probably guessed it - my wifi connection stopped working.

Well fixing that is beyond my level of expertise... but I figure that this might be a route you could take to a bang up to date installation if you can figure how to get the wifi back on. Let me know if you do.

Cheers

John

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Upgrading Beta1/beta3 To Pdaxii13

Hi macwiz. I've just applied the pdaxii13 upgrade to my beta2 install, and I'm experiencing the same two problems as you. Cards won't mount (neither sd nor cf) and I get the funky sideways screen when I quit X. I know you said the former problem was solved by installing rox, but any idea of what the 'behind the scenes' issue was? According to my earlier findings, pdax1113's updated modules weren't compatible with the C860's kernel, but see below.

And did you ever get the screen rotation fixed? thks

Hi grog.

Er, I'm not really very technical so I don't know why I dabble with these things.

I did have fun with pdaxii13 on my c860, but found that installing things from various beta3 feeds would break it regularly, so I kind of gave up. I never did solve the rotation problem on exiting X, and really I was never likely to.

Right now I'm trying Angstrom - glutton for punishment - and I suspect strongly that this will be a wasted effort for me. However, finding that my 1 GB SD was mounted automatically by it I popped in my 2 GB card and it was mounted OK too! This card I originally bought for my Z, but finding it didn't work, it has languished in my loox 720 (yuk). I haven't got anything bigger to try, but perhaps there is something in it for you if you need larger SD support.

Good luck

John

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Original Flash Partitioning
« on: July 06, 2007, 10:02:00 am »
I'm trying Angstrom on my c860. df -h soon after installing gives me only 15.8 MB left on /, though I did install Dillo too. An earlier install, when I tried to install Abiword ran out of space.

15.8 Mb is really tiny. Is there anyway using the c860 that I can install Angstrom to my SD?

I suppose I could make ipkg just install ipks onto the SD...

Incidentally, I find that a 2GB SD card that no flavour of pdaXrom I tried ever recognised is supported out of the box.

Thanks for any help.

There seem to be 2 threads concerning e17 at the moment, this and https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=24177

Do they amount to the same thing?
Will any of these options work on an c860, given that I have got pdaXii13 running on it?

Cheers

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdax86 On Hard Drive
« on: May 28, 2007, 09:54:59 am »
Hi all!

Wondered if anyone had got any further with getting pdax86 onto the hard disk and maybe using less RAM.

Sure lots of us have clapped-out machines that would actually run it quite well as the sole OS. I have an old compaq legacy free ipaq (that doesn't look like a big beige box) that is screaming for a light/fast OS. Besides, would be nice to be able to double-up on any benefits I gain learning more about what I can do on/for my Z.

Any help appreciated!

The pdaXrom feeds are down again?... And the alternative ibiblio feeds are gone too.

Where does one go?

Did this get restored? I can't find anything on mail.pdaxrom.org.

Is there a mirror somewhere?

Thanks

I haven't found a mirror, or the latest stuff. I found this though, which has beta3 files I need and others.

[a href=\"http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/]http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/[/url]

Also look at

for some pdaXrom related feeds.

Good Luck!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Custom Icons
« on: April 17, 2007, 04:21:50 am »
Sorry this is such a cosmetic post, but I am trying to customize the look and feel of my desktop/panel. I am running pdaXii13 with openbox/rox on my c860.

Anyway, I have edited some of the application icons in the pixmaps folder, recreating 48x48 pixel png files with an alpha transparency. They appear in rox just fine, and if I drag them to the desktop there they are in all their glory. (Got to admit to just revamping some from OSX Tiger, but maybe I'll get creative when I've got it to work.) But... In the panel or panel-menu they just apear as scrambled, interlaced fuzz. I wondered if there needed to be smaller versions, but rox is able to display reduced size versions on the fly with no problem.

Perhaps I need to output the png differently - I am using Fireworks - but I am stumped.

PS. Recommend any icon editors?

Thanks

If I run xrandr in aterm it returns:

0 640x480
1 480x640
2 240x320

I guess that last line should be 320x240. Where does xrandr pick up these values from and can I change the last one?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158964\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

try editing /usr/X11R6/bin/startx

and add the following value for RES

-screen 240x320@270

or

-screen 640x480@270

make sure you add it to the section for SL-C860, there is a similar entry for SL-C1000....

I have actually got Quake running full screen. I'll have to write a little script to automate it.

Code: [Select]
xrandr -s 240x320
xrandr -o 3
/usr/apps/Games/Quake/AppRun

I didn't find editing startx made any difference.

When I quit Quake it returns to full res landscape screen the right way up. But unfortunately the cursor isn't where I press the stylus, so I press the menu button, then arrow keys to aterm and type reboot to reset the Z.

It's not that I am desperate to run quake, I just want to know that if I come across apps/games that want the lower resolution screen I can get around the problem.

If you ave any other suggestions for startx I am game.

Thanks

John

Sure... if I get anything useful done I will send config files for you to ponder.

Quake started tiny and rotated. Returning to desktop and all screwed. Reboot fixes tho.
