How many of you guys run your own Zaurus news sites?  I know of tyrannozaurus.com and thegrinder.ws.  Anyone else?

Disclaimer: I apologize if I missed your site.  I mainly stick around the forums

OESF Announcements / Possible Wiki Change
« on: December 21, 2005, 09:07:24 pm »
Hey Guys,

I'd like to propose a possible change to our Wiki setup.  As most of you have seen, we are very prone to spam on the Wiki.  I've been having to do almost daily scans and changes to the pages because these spammers are killing us.  I love the Wiki option, but it's honestly getting out of control.

The other day, I stumbled upon a CMS that I think might serve our needs well.

http://www.geeklog.net

After inspection and use on a couple of my sites, it seems to be the Slackware of the CMS world.  You can create pages and make it so that a group of people can edit them.  So basically we still have our Wiki abilities, but this time if you want to edit you have to ask to be part of the group.  It also has some extra managerial things that I think we could benefit from.  I know that we can lock the pages on a Wiki, but as far as managing it it's not really organized at all.

If you guys could check it out, let me know what you think.  If you want to see it in action, check out: http://www.ws2g.org .. There are some other excellent sites using it as well, such as http://www.delta3d.org .

I really like it, and if we were to use it I could just make it so that the Wiki user database uses the database from this forum so there's no extra signing up or anything.

Anyways, please let me know opinions.  I'd like to have a discussion about it and then eventually, depending on what the concensus is, draw a poll.

Thanks Guys,
Roy

Hardware Mods / Forum Instructions
« on: November 18, 2005, 11:00:59 pm »
I'm gonna be watching over this forum.  If there are any posts which you feel would be good to have pinned at the top, pm me and I'll do it.  I'm hoping that as time progresses, we have a nice selection of tutorials put together for modding our Zs that we can put inside a read-only sub-forum.  This one can be left for discussing everything.

Thanks Guys

OESF Announcements / New Forum And General Update
« on: November 16, 2005, 06:47:46 am »
Just letting you guys know of a new forum that was created in the 'General Support and Discussion' group.  It's called 'Hardware Mods' and is meant for any physical modifications that you make to your Zaurus.  This is a forum that is meant for all models.  We decided to put everything into one forum because some hardware mods can consist of multiple models (for ex, transplanting a screen from a 6k into a 3100).

As well, within the next couple days we might have some routine maintenance done to the forums.  There is a new update out and it's usually a pretty good idea to stay up to date on the patches.  I'll be posting any expected outages.

Have a good day.

5x00 Hardware / 5600 Charger
« on: July 15, 2005, 05:40:15 pm »
Anyone try using a charger from a c860 with a 5600?

My 5600 dock has been lost since my move, but I do have my 860 charger.  I'd like to try it, but I'd rather not fry my 5600.

ELSI General Discussion / Question About Editing Projects
« on: May 02, 2005, 09:05:29 pm »
This question popped up in my email box today and I'm wondering what the rest of you think.  Someone emailed me asking if they could edit projects that they didn't own.

Would you guys like it if you could edit a project that was owned by a 'Ghost'?  If so, would you want that edit to have to be approved by a mod, or should it be instant?

Just an idea.. let me know if you like it.  If so, I can put it in for the next feature set after the current revamp is done.

Each topic will be the name of the task.

The description for the topic will be the task id for the task on Sourceforge.

Only admins will be able to create topics in here.  Anyone will be able to reply though.  This forum is strictly meant to keep everyone up to date on development on the ELSI and have a history of a sort on the tasks and their evolution.

ELSI News / Elsi Revamp In Progress
« on: April 23, 2005, 12:15:49 pm »
I've set up several tasks that I'd like to get done with the ELSI on Sourceforge.  I have started working on giving the elsi a much needed overhaul.  If you want to see a list of all the tasks that need to get done, feel free to visit here:

http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?group_i...browse&set=open

We are looking for some volunteers to help me program.  If anyone's interested, pm me here on the forums with some info about your programming experience.

People that I'm looking for are:

PHP Programmers
Javascript Programmers that have a knowledge of xmlhttpRequest.  It's a simple task and if all else fails, I can easily do this.
CSS Designers.  I'd like the whole site switched to a CSS layout.

Thanks.  I know it's been a long time coming, but I'm trying to get everything rolling again.

We have received all your messages and even though we can't respond to all of them, we do read each one.  Hopefully we can release an update soon with a bunch of bugfixes for all to enjoy

Have a good day ~

ELSI General Discussion / Releasing Sourcecode For The Elsi
« on: January 27, 2005, 12:04:59 am »
Hey, I'm going to be releasing the full source code for the elsi soon.  I am settling in to a new place/job, so I haven't had a chance to work on the elsi much.  I hate that development has stopped and would love for it to continue.  Once I get everything taken care of, I'd love to get back into it but right now I have other priorities.

I know several of you have contacted me about helping out with development, and I was wondering if you're still interested?  The site will be released under the GPL and unless you guys have any objections, I think I'll release it at BerliOS.de.  It's just like Sourceforge, except I find it to be faster.  If those that would like to join the development team prefer Sourceforge more, I have no objections to putting it on there instead.

So if you guys would be interested, I'd love to get the development of the elsi rolling again.  I'd like to stay on as a management role and take care of what is getting programmed and such.  That way we can still push the elsi into the direction that Mike and I envisioned it and I can still be a part of the team.

Technical Details

The entire elsi is coded in PHP and uses MySQL for the data.  I tried to make it as object oriented and efficient as possible.  As far as the MySQL portion goes, I think it's pretty efficient but I'm sure someone who's good at MySQL can make that portion better.

Thanks Guys
Roy

- Change screenshot page will list name of project.
- Ability to mark a release for your project for deletion.
- Ability to mark your project for deletion.
- Better handling of screenshots.  I forgot I had a temporary fix.
- Adding the winning layout.

Ok so, while my girlfriend was at work the other day I had Showtime on in the hotel room while I was doing some work on my laptop.  I happened to glance over and I notice the 'remote' that the dad has is none other than a Zaurus.  It looked like the 5x00 series.

Just thought I'd say that
