Has anyone tried this?  Is it worth it for us to create a sub-forum for it?  From everything I've read, it seems like a pretty cool device and is kinda in the realm of the other devices we support here.

Thoughts/Opinions?

Nice device but does this mean that the Z community will cease to exist?

Not at all.  This would just be another subforum like we have for the other devices.  It'd go into the 'Model Specific Forums' section with the other stuff.

I think it wouldn't hurt to put one there.  If it's not visited often, at least it's there.  That other site is huge and by all means, they can keep their monsterous community.  There are pro's and con's to having that large of a community, so we'll let them keep all the scary people and make sure that our forums stay as helpful as the rest of the subforums.

Unless anyone has any major objections, I'll give it its own tiny subforum and see how it pants out.

Have a satisfactory, non-denominational, capitalist, wintertime gift-giving season, everyone (just to be politically correct )

Seriously, though, thanks for all you do here, dz (and the other Admins/moderators).

Hey man, those other guys have been doing a lot of the work.  Speculatrix, InSearchOf and the Wiki team have made my life 100x easier.  Much thanks to them

Just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.  2007 was a rocky year for us, but we seem to be settled in now so 2008 should hopefully be smooth sailing.  I also wanted to give a special thanks to the Wiki staff for taking charge and managing the wiki.  I don't know much in that area, so I really appreciate them doing that.  Make sure you guys thank them if you happen to stumble into their forum

Anyway, be safe and have fun.  I'll toast a drink to this fine community come New Years

Roy

I don't remember anyone of us stopping file uploads on the wiki.  That must've happened when we upgraded or something.

Any idea where this Bad Behavior extension installs bad IP addresses?  Why not just pull your ips out of there and see if it still acts up?

Off Topic forum / Olpc Program

At $200, even $250 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. $400 means I don't buy something else that might be more useful for my purposes, like a vostro, a nanobook or a 3epc. Given that I already have a Z I should be looking at something that overlaps the Z's uses less and compliments the Z more, I think.
hmmmm.

Heh, I agree with that post 100%.  The problem though is you're looking at it wrong.  It's not meant to beat out any of your devices.  It's meant for little kids.  The G1G1 program is just to get the word out more and lower the cost by getting more built.  They're not interested in how you feel about the laptop, they're interested in lowering the price and making it cheaper to give to the poor countries.  Not that they're not grateful, but a tech guy is not the target audience for a laptop that looks like kermit the frog =]

Most of you probably know about the OLPC Laptop program.  Pretty neat little laptop thingy they have going.  They have their two week 'give 1 get 1' program and it's for a good cause.

Anyway, I'm gonna order one just because I think it's a good way to promote Linux and I'll probably give the Laptop as a Christmas gift to one of my little cousins.  Figured I'd let those that haven't been following it know about it in case they were interested.

Here's a link to the program:  http://www.laptopgiving.org/en/index.php
And some specs on the laptop itself:  http://bc.tech.coop/blog/071112.html

Peace =]

I really ought to buy one (public education career and all). I've been a big fan of the project, and i think it deserves support (my wife may disagree at the sight of the price vs any claim to "needing it I might make). Are they all kermit green, though?

Edit: in the meantime I think I'll have a look at the qemu image
the quickstartguide seems simple enough: Here

The reasoning behind the look of them is crime.  People know that only students and teachers are supposed to have these, so stealing one is going to be tough since everyone will know where it came from.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Spammers At The Forum?
« on: November 12, 2007, 02:11:52 pm »
I got spam reports from those, but by the time I checked 'em out one of the other admins had deleted it or something.  I'll keep my eye out.

There's an IPB update (updates from here on now should be super fast and smooth).  Maybe it has some more anti-spam stuff.  I'll try and get it in this weekend.

Done.  Do we have a mod in that forum?  If not, would you want to be one?

I opened a ticket up with IPB.  I'll let you know what they say.

I got a reply back from IPB.  They apparently dont know what it is and for some reason, there's a chunk of data missing in the database about the attachments.  Do you guys still have the files?  Can you reupload?  If not, I can check and make sure they're still on the actual server if you give me filenames and then I can reupload.

Just an update: extensions went in on Wednesday 24th October. Up to the minute, 2:30 pm Friday 26th BST, not one item of spam has come across the radar! Long may it continue!

Ya, I haven't seen any spam in the forum either.  Let's keep our fingers crossed!
