6000 - Tosa / Got my 6000L from Amazon - Some impressions

Here I am replying to my own stuff !  I found the \"trick\" to making the video work, and boy does it work !  You\'ve got to tap/hold the MediaPlayer icon and check Display With Magnified Screen.  I don\'t why this works, but it worked great !

As far as \"other 3rd party apps\" the only other ones I use are tckSky (which runs fine) and ClearSky (which is just a newer version of tkcSky) and it runs fine as well.  I haven\'t fired up my AirCable bluetooth yet, but I\'ll post a message when I do.

Everything else works like a charm, my two SD cards (one 256Mb and one 512Mb) a 512Mb and a 64Mb CF, an IBM 1Gb microdrive, and a Magicstor 2.2Gb microdrive.  Now I just need to find a case big enough to hold this thing !

1).   Well made, much more rugged than my 5600
2).   BIG !  Also much bigger than my 5600
3).   Screen is unbelievably beautiful
4).   Integrated 802.11B is strictly a no-brainer, very easy to setup
5).   All SHARP apps seem very stable, synch with Outlook worked fine
6).   None of my theKompany stuff works, tkcVideo and tkcGallery
7).   Landscape mode is very nice, Opera is very useable that way.
.   Subjectively seems much faster than my 5600

BIG PROBLEM (for me anyway) is that movies really stink, I mean big time.  Video that looks fine on my 5600 is choppy and completely out of synch on the 6000L, in either portrait or landscape.  May be Sharp\'s Media Player, may be the screen itself, I have no idea.  I\'d love to have my tkcVideo back, but the 5600 version is pretty dysfunctional on it.  I use this function in my PDA during long flights, waits in airports, etc., so this may be going back to Amazon.  Major disappointment.  The quality of the screen is soooo good, I was really looking forward to better movie quality, not worse !  Aaarrrggghhhh !

I have now installed \"both\" applications.  Still nothing under \"file/catalogs\".  I have the basic-10[1].0.pdb installed on the SD card under /var/mnt/card/QTPalmtop/lib/psc and under I:QtPalmtoplibpsc.  Did I miss something in that infamous \"readme\" file ?

1. The .ipk file is the main application. Load it to your Z in the usual manner.

(in other words, the readme makes absolutely NO reference to install BOTH, though I did install the tkcSKY app to SD)

Suggestion:  Correct your \"readme\'s\", not me.
 
I have been a big supporter of your tkc applications, you might try to be a bit more forthcoming and polite when responding to honest requests for support, I have purchased several TKC apps and have never asked for support.  Nor will I again.  I will not be purchasing additional applications, though that had been my intention.

I pre-ordered a week and a half ago.  May as well \"jump in the pool\" is my thinking.  Love my 5600, but that new screen makes me wet !  :-) :mrgreen:

6000 - Tosa / battery bulge?

No battery bulge on the 6000.  It uses a different battery than previous z\'s that\'s a bit wider but is flat.  Even the add-on \"sleeve\" is flat on the back as well.

General Discussion / Ordered my SL-6000L from Amazon tonight !

Just to let the group know, Amazon is listing the SL-6000L (with the built-in 802.11B) as arriving on March 31st.  I ordered one and they confirmed shipping on April 6th.  I actually prefer this form factor to the clamshells as I\'m addicted to my 5600, but to each his own.  Waiting will be painful !

5x00 General discussions / Formatting CF card in the SL-5600

I\'m having difficulty flashing to the pre-emptive patch kernel.  I\'ve put updater.sh and zImage.bin in the root of the CF.  I\'ve tried formatting the CF under XP-PRO as both FAT and FAT32, but neither seems to work.  Can anybody give me directions for formatting this card internally in the Z ?  I\'m not a Linux guru, but I can obey instructions pretty well !

5x00 Hardware / CE-BC21 Charger compatible with EA-BL08 battery?

I\'m using one for my 5600 and it works just fine.  You do have to make a slight modification though.  You\'ve got to make a smallish hole in the case material for the tab on the BL08 battery to fit into it.  Not hard to do, particularly if you take the charger apart first.  I\'ve also heard that you can saw the tab off the battery to make it fit, but that seems a bit risky to me.  I used a dremel tool to add the hole to the charger, took about 15 minutes to take it apart, make the hole, and put it back together again.

I used idle 500 which seems to work just fine.  As far as what that actually means, I have no idea, it was suggested to me in the thread above to use idle 100 \"or a suitable value\".

Thanks folks !  That worked like a charm, vi isn\'t half as bad as I thought.  I edited the file appropriately and added in the required text.  It did have a tendency to time-out, so I went back in and added that last idle parameter and that fixed the problem.  Also, the su (which I presume stands for super user) worked like a charm.

I\'m new to Linux (Ok, so shoot me :-))  I\'ve gotten an AirCable bluetooth adaptor for my SL-5600 and was finally able to \"pair\" it with my Motorola 270C Bluetooth cell phone.  Now I\'m supposed to make a modification to a file in  /etc/ppp/peers .  Basically this is a IRDA dial-up profile file which I now need to \"fool\" into thinking the serial port is the IRDA port.  I\'m supposed to do this by adding /dev/ttyS0 as the first line in this \"script\".  I\'ve used File Manager, but can\'t get to it.  I\'ve Terminal, but am told that access ist verboten.  I know next to (I mean really next to) nothing about VI, but I\'m determined not to be beat by this.  Anybody lend a poor novice a hand ?  Since I\'ll never use the IRDA, does anybody have an idea about how I might be able to \"permanently\" make it point to the serial port ?

Software / The Best MultiMedia Player for Zaurus

TKCVideo does it for me.  I\'ve got all of the Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings on a Microdrive and take it with me.  Looks really nice in the landscape mode and sound is excellent.  Wish the display was a bit brighter though, but that\'s Zaurus for ya.
