General Discussion / Repair Cost
« on: April 26, 2005, 02:10:40 pm »
Called sharp and they said that the Z has no operating system on it, and that they will have to flash it (how it got no os is beyond me, I know the images were fine, thats another story). I was told that there is a $50 inital diagnostic fee + $10 shipping fee. How much would it cost to reflash it. I'm looking for a ballpark figure. I'm on an extremely tight budget right now, so I need to know the cost.

General Discussion / Is My Z A Brick?
« on: April 19, 2005, 12:21:58 pm »
I can not boot my Z (5600) at all. I had tried to flash it with an old image, now I don't get anything. I can get the maintence menu, but when I tell it to update, it turns off and then I get nothing. Is there anything I can do?

Linux Issues / Connection Issue Driving Me Nuts
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:11:26 pm »
Thanks for the confirmation. I think its something with the 2.6.11.x kernel. I submitted a bug report. I also tried out 2.6.12-rc2, and I had the same issue. I'm sticking with 2.6.9 for right now.

Linux Issues / Connection Issue Driving Me Nuts

My device is plugged directly into the root hub (the built in usb drives) and usb0 is added in the correct place.

I've had it working, just can't get it to see a usb0 device now. I do get logs saying that it has set an address using uhci-hcd.

I have a 5600 and I'm running gentoo. On both my laptop (PII 233) and my desktop (AMD 1.2Ghz) running kernel 2.6.11.5. running lsusb showss that the device is connected but I don't have usb0 appearing. I am not getting any errors in /var/log/messages. What could be wrong?

If you don't have hotplug set up, you might have to do a "modprobe usbnet". Also, you might have to bring the appropriate network interface up ("usb0", I think)...

I have usbnet modprobed and when I do ifconfig usb0 up (given ip and all) I get device not found.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.5.1, 5600 Socket CF WLAN and Sync
« on: October 01, 2004, 10:08:48 pm »
I had the issue until I flashed the kernel. I don't know how I missed it the first time, but make sure it is zImage and not zimage. Now I'm pinging scping and trying to get the thing setup the way I like.

I'm having the same issue. I have a script that I setup when using the stock rom to connect, now I can't ping with oz 3.5.1. I would like to transfer stuff over to it, and add more packages, Is there anyway I can connect to it? I'm running gentoo with kernel 2.6.7

Security and Networking / Aggreavtion with wireless
« on: September 03, 2004, 12:07:57 pm »
I'm using the Zynergy rom on my 5600 with the pre-emptive kernel post here on the zug. I want to be able to use iwconfig to change my card rate. I've noticed using the gui tool, it seems I'm stuck at 11Mb. When I try to set my bitrate I get this error:

Set failed on device eth0 ; Function not implemented

I've tried installing wireless tools but I get a package error. How can I fix this? Also how can I fix the package issue. I've had alot of pacakge that installing from the terminal will fail because the package is not right or something. I have to install from the terminal because the ipkg gui will quit when I try to install. ANy help is appreciated.

Linux Applications / What PIM Apps do you use
« on: June 02, 2004, 10:22:38 am »
I\'m thinking about writing some apps or something for the Z. I have a 5600, with no syncing software in linux. I know there is multisync, and was thinking about writing a 5600 connector for that, along with some other PIM app stuff. More input the better.

Is there a place in the midwest that I can get someone to fix my Z? Its still under warrenty, but somehow (I don\'t know how) one of the CF pins got bent. Is there an 800 number that I can call one of the companies that will fix it? If not, I may just tear it apart and try to fix it.

I downloaded the kernel that has the wireless fix. I still can\'t do a iwconfig and get the status. Is there something else that I need to install?

I also have some scratches on my screen, can I get those repaired somwhere?

that supports wireless extensions. I want to rgulate the bit rate of my Ambicom WL1100C, but can\'t seem to find any kernels. Does anyone know where I can find a good one? I\'ve tried OZ, but thats still way to unstable currently.
