Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Usb Ethernet Dongle - New Version
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:19:28 am »
OK, finally I won the battle.
I did this through the money. I just bought different dongle.
So in short words:
Beware of davilex dm9601 aka sr9600 chipset.
Pegasus one (ADM Tek 851x) or asix one are working fine.

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / No More Updates From Sharp For The Netwalker?
« on: January 06, 2011, 07:22:01 am »
Is there source code for netwalker specific kernel changes which was done by sharp?
As I understand, the main problem with netwalker support out of the box under debian/ubuntu is those changes. Simply stock kernel is not tweaked for netwalker.
Am I correct?

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Usb Ethernet Dongle - New Version
« on: December 31, 2010, 07:53:00 pm »
here is my compiled module and changed source file.
I think there is necessary to install some packages to default netwalker installation
apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

but with files attached it should be easy to launch that dongle.

And whats important. That module should work for zubuntu on zaurus. I will try it if I will have an opportunity.

Finally solved.
I have downloaded module from here: http://www.meworks.net/userfile/24247/dm9601-Linux2.6_1.tar (attached also to this post).
It compiles without complaining.

I have added a line in dm9601.h:
DM9601_DEV( "SUNRISE USB Ethernet", 0x0fe6, 0x8101,
      DEFAULT_GPIO_RESET )

Then:
make
copy dm9601.ko into apropriate directory
then depmod -a
and plug your dongle
It should work straight away. But mine didnt. After reviewing ifconfig -a i found that dongle did not have mac address assigned.
So simple ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55 and dhclient made all work flawlessly.

I attached source code from manufacturers page.

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Lost Keystrokes

About the mouse registrations, don know about that.
Maybe try a restore and check if it still happens?

I also get strange behavior such as spontaneous right-clicks when using the touch screen. I believe there is a problem with the mouse driver.

It's a shame that something as simple as they keyboard and mouse does not work properly with the stock configuration. I did not expect a computer which ships with ubuntu as it's main OS to have these sorts of problems.
Well I use netwalker quite much and didnt noticed any problems other than rubbery feeling and not always catched keystrokes with mouse/touchscreen/keyboard.
Maybe your unit has hardware problems?

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Which To Buy?

I'm leaning more towards the PC-T1 because it has the bluetooth. But I hear the downside is the unit itself is a bit chunky from youtube video I saw.
Is the keyboard pretty hard to use on the PC-Z1?

What's your opinions and why?

All opinions appreciated

Well. I find PC-Z1 quite usable.
I tried a lot of devices to find zaurus replacement (lifebook, oqo, nokia e61) and Netwalker settled perfectly for me.
Keyboard is a bit "rubbery" this meand not every keystroke is catched but I dont find it problematical.
I use netwalker almost all the time on the hand without placing it on table and its ok to type on that keyboard.

The biggest problem is battery. It takes 3-4 days to have it gone when device is suspeded into ram.

Just think how much you will type. The ugliest keyboard is better than on screen input methods (i didnt tried that sophisticated methods with dictionaries and nifty moving figures).
And I agree that lack of BT is really big dissapointment in PC-Z1. But it is easily fixable with usb BT dongle...

I have one usb-ethernet dongle. Its based on pegasus chip.
Working flawlessly under cacko, zubuntu, ubuntu and off course most of windooze.

But recently i got new batch of these and suprise! New ones are based on different chip.
They look similar but have two chips (supereal sr9600 and sr8200) instead of one pegasus II (adm8511) chip.

And ubuntu does not recognize them.

On CD shipped with those dongles are some source code for linux.
Can any one tell if those have chance to work under standard netwalker installation?
Directory with files is zipped and attached to this post.

Grrr.... I tried to compile that driver on my own but without success.

I have stepped on that:
http://21500.net/?p=616
and from there that: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=483189

No success.
My kernel version is: 2.6.28-15-araneo.

Is there a way to compile that module or a way to update kernet to new version (i have read that in newer versions that module is compiled by default)?

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / White Keyboard

Does anyone know where I can get a white replacement keyboard?

Anyone have a white netwalker that wants to trade keyboards?

The black is too hard to see in the dark.

You can track any broken netwalker on ebay. It may be hard to spot one soe instead try to buy self adhesive stickers for keyboard.
There are plenty of them on ebay "keyboard sticker" and cost about 1-5$.

I have bought one set a couple years ago and they work fine.
Just be shure they are not too big.

Disadvantage is that they usually contain only letters, so no netwalkers special chars on them. But it should be fine in most cases.

But be aware once glued on it will be hard to get rid of them - lots of cleaning...

OK, settlet the matters.
Saving is possible but buttons "cancel" and "OK" are not binded to any action so it is needed to enter name of iqnotes and press enter.

Two more things:
in your archive it is needed to move images from /usr/share/iqnotes/ to /usr/share/iqnotes/items
And you compiled path for note icons as /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/and_so_on.
It is better to change it to /usr/share/iqnotes/pics and create such dir in archive.

I can prepare two nice sets of images to put there so iqnotes can shine as perfect jewel

I am not sure what you mean by "cancel" & "ok" - is this at the startup screen?

On the version I compiled I thought I had set the destination for images to /usr/share/iqnotes/, but yes, the additional pics is under  /opt/QtPalmtop/pics/.
If you are interested, I can email you the source code - I needed to make very minor changes for it to compile under a current version of Debian / Ubuntu or on the Netwalker.

Regards,
Stefan

"cancel" & "ok" are buttons which user is supposed to click when there is no iqnotes file and user just created one and is trying to save it.
They do not work. But blind enter saves file and from now on user can save iths work by simply "save" from menu.

Source code would be nice but I do not have anu compile environment.
What is needed to compile it besides gcc?

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Which Internet Browser Are You Using?
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:17:09 pm »
I guess the best way is to use firefox. It is heavy byt very usable.

I use dillo and midori as well for some sites. But I do not use web too much on netwalker.

Are you using vnc connector to qemu graphics?

If so then try to find vncclient which supports resizing. Im sure that tightvnc under windows does that (just checked). there is source code for linux and probably somewhere you can find compiled version for netwalker.

If not then Maybe someone will compile it for us all

Im afraid it will be hard to achieve full screen vga resolution.
If you start fiddling with X configuration you will be able to make it work in vga resolution but not stretched for sure. I do not know if it will be possible to set display to stretch mode of any kind.

What kind of application is this?

Maybe there is a workaround to make it appear bigger.

You can try to run it in virtual vncserver and connect to it with client which supports resizing. That might work.
