I was recently alerted to the fact that that is a Spitz module, so I'll get the Akita one up soon (though the Spitz one may work fine, as they're the same kernel, built with the same compiler, same versions, etc.).

Here, everyone, is Capn_Fish's ARM Kernel 2.6.24 Module to drive the RT73 Wi-Fi cards using ASPj's awesome C code under Bitbake for Angstrom :

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

This is Machine Code for the Intel XScale ARM Processor Family, so, that includes most of the C-xxxx Zaurus range of Computers.

Therefore, can people using the C-xxxx especially the C-1000 under Angstrom Kernel 2.6.24 try using this Module with their RT73 and get back here to
this thread with their results ? Thanks All for that ;-)

This module contains all the features to run the Aircrack-ng suite successfully in all modes using the RT73 cards, I.E Monitor Mode with Packet Injection .

So, June 2009 and STILL no USB to test this great module in Angstrom !

And to top it all, there are no more install kits from the Angstrom team for more than 1.5 years since this stinking OS was issued.

What a bunch of jokers team Angstrom are ! not only all this, but you cant even contact them to tell them to fix the USB system in there OS's BAH!

June 1st 2009, issue still unresolved. anyone want to exchange this C1000 for a OQO x86 ? - contact me at my email address.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C1000 And Angstrom ? Forget It !

Ahh.. Angstrom,

Supposed to be the Bees-Knees of ARM OS's.

I think this OS is a Joke.

Mostly due to its rotten capabilities in the USB department.

It wants to force me to give up my beautiful Z C1000 for an 8086 Clone, an OQO 1Ghz Pocket
running Backtrack 3 no less.

Aren't we all just a little tired of 8086 world domination ? Isn't there someone out there in Angstrom land
that can fix our USB woes and put ARM Systems up there in lights where it belongs along with the 8086's of this world ?

We have waited long enough to get an Angstrom that ACTUALLY WORKS .

I would love to have a go at solving this problem myself, but I don't have the time. Perhaps this
is the problem with others ?

If there is anyone out there willing to help with this issue we want to hear !

as of end of April 2009, this issue is still unresolved. does anyone know if USB using kernel 2.6.24 Angstrom can be used on the other machine versions ?

that is, all machines issued after the SL-C1000 which feature the same ARM Processor ?

thanks all !

Did you check the current requirements? If it is more than 150mA, you are going out of power budget (and dmesg shows proper error).

Oh yes, even with this issue, I connected all devices via a powered 2.0 Hub, and they all still did not work, just like they all still did not
work when I connected them up to the Computer by themselves.

I have 5 devices that no longer work because of the electrical restriction of the 2.6 kernels.
Using a device that is under 150mA, you still have to use the commandline to get USB host devices to work.
Not like Cacko, or pdaxii13, where most all USB host devices are plug-n-play.

There is a "hack" in this thread that "bypasses" the power limitation.
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=20739

No kernel is not the problem. The real problem are devices programmed to lie about their needs.

I have one device, which tells true (WL54USB-A) and does not work with 180mA, and another one, which lies (A-Data 2G SD Flash Duo with USB), wanting 500mA, running with 180mA.

In such case you need my OHCI Power Budget Hack. You need to recompile kernel, even if USB driver is in module (power budget is stored in platform description of kernel, which is in the kernel itself). Replace the number 680 by anything you need.

Hi there utx, this looks like a good solution, as my system is rather limited in resources at the mo, would you be so good as to post the recompiled
kernel here to the forum (the zImage file) like you did the patch file , with the patch you have kindly provided already added  so everyone can share
your good work on this issue ?

That would be fantastic !

I presume this is Kernel 2.6.24 for Angstrom ?

Many thanks ! We await your 2nd post,  Allelectrix

Hi Jon_J , many thanks for your reply, yeh, seen that thread already mate, done that and did not work for me unfortuantely, any more ideas ?
there is nothing wrong with the hardware either as Cacko and PdaX fire up the USB with total ease, - everything works including my RT73
Radio Card (courtesy Capn_Fish and evilJazz) - just in case you might be wondering if there is anything wrong with the Hardware.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Usb System Totally Non-functional Kernel 2.6.24

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to get the USB sub-system running on an Akita with the following OS's ? :

Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r13-akita-installkit.tgz

and

Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r9-akita-installkit.tgz.gz

All of the main kernel modules are present, for example:

the kernel module:

usbmouse.ko

is present , but when the mouse is attached, no go.
same for USB storage, and probably, just about everything else.

Capn_Fish kindly compiled a Module for me which modprobe loads happily, but when my RT73 Radio Card
is plugged in, same as all the other USB devices, no operation, and the system is not recognizing it at all
except for :

lsusb -v

which shows the manufacturers data for each USB device correctly, at least, the USB system is reading this
data from each device, so thats a good start.

Modprobe picks up and loads all Modules properly and normally.

lsusb list them after modprobe has loaded them.

Any suggestions anyone ?

If not, do you have an Angstrom Kernel 2.6.24 OS file we can all try that is not the same as the 2 OS's above ?

OK, it's done!

I haven't tested it, but it should be fine.

Thanks a million Capn_Fish ! just got it in your PM to me. Can everyone please try this module and tell us all how you get on with it ? !

Best wishes to all, Allelectrix, GB

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Install Angstrom After Cacko
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:19:40 pm »
just been reading this thread with some interest, so, by the looks of things you Guys have had some gripe with Angstrom.

I am interested in doing the following with this OS:

1. Set up Networking using USB Wifi with an rt73 based card
2. Wifi MUST support at least Managed and Monitor modes , with Monitor mode supporting packet injection
3. install a good Web Browser
4. install LinNeighborhood
5. install good EMail client
6. install Aircrack-ng
7. install Kismet
8. install Samba and support software
9. install GUI MP3 Player
10, install CUPS
11. install MySQL Server

Does anyone know if these APs will run on this OS ?

Oh yes, I want this on a C1000.

Hi Capn_Fish,

Thanks so much for your hard work , I sent you a new PM today, Wednesday 17th 2008 @ 15:40 GMT .

Folks, Capn_Fish is currently working on an rt73 Radio WiFi Module for Kernel 2.6.24 for the Angstrom OS on the C1000 and its clones.
The Module will be posted here when it has been tested and complete.

The Module will feature all Wifi Modes and will allow rt73 cards to inject Data Packets into a Wireless Network while in Monitor Mode.

Currently, we have an rt73.o module for Kernel 2.4.20 with this functionality, but, the OS does NOT support USB Wifi Managed mode, and
USB Ad-Hoc mode is virtually non existent, thus, the OS wastes a lot of the Modules features. The OS (PdaXii13 and Cacko) only support
USB Wifi Monitor mode with Packet Injection. and managed mode using PCMCIA Wifi Cards, even then, Ad-Hoc mode still don't work,
so, were moving to Kernel 2.6 and working with this now, to circumvent these problems.

It is hoped that the Kernel 2.6.24 Module will fill this gap by providing full USB Wifi features for the Angstrom OS on a C1000.

After the module is developed and all WiFi features are enabled, it only remains to compile some of the key programs found
in BT2 and BT3 and then produce a working BT on a Sharp SL-C1000 or clone.

Stay tuned to this page people !

kernel 2.4.20 .

I sent you a rather important PM please can you read it and get back to me ASAP on this.

Thanks for your kind help !
