typing the commands, I also believe it is a kernel config problem, things are strongly pointing in this direction now.

Do you have sudo installed?

sdjf

Hi sdjf, thanks for your reply, no, I am using a C1000 with pdaxii13 do we still need sudo ?

Have you ever got an online connection using a USB Wifi Card in pdaXii13 ?

Quote from: speculatrix
you shouldn't need to specify the AP if it's an access point (i.e. not ad-hoc), and the wireless client should automatically choose the right client.

thanks, but this only seems to work for CF Wifi Cards, Have you ever got an online connection using a USB Wifi Card in pdaXii13 ?

iwconfig should then show the AP's mac, and repeat back the wep key (only root sees that).

yep, again this is so with CF Wifi cards, have not had this work with USB wifi Cards

ping the gateway and look at the arp table ("arp -an") or find the arp file in /proc/sys/net (something like that ) which gets populated when you ping the gateway.

OK will try that. thanks lads for your replies so far. It would be really neat if we could get this resolved as USB Wifi Cards are vastly superior
in every way to CF b Cards, in terms of RF range, abilities, performance, and they basically add a whole pile of kick ass features that
B cards cannot even come near too.

so if this gets added to pdaX circia Kernel 2.6 COUNT ME IN !

keep your ideas rolling in here, we still need a kernel 2.4.20 solution to this problem.

Yes, after applying the Sensitivity patch to the Module, the rt73 cards work very well indeed, picking up everything in sight, it gives even better
reporting than my trusty, but rusty D-Link 802.11b CF Card.

I therefore recommend the module I compiled.

The rt2570 module also works well with the rt2570 cards and I report no sensitivity reception problems with this module.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Get A Single File From Initrd.bin
« on: October 26, 2008, 03:47:05 pm »
Hi all,

is there any way we  can extract a single file from an initrd.bin file in the conventional manner using extraction tools
rather than the manner using modprobe, jffs2 and mknod ?

thanks, Allelectrix

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Files Needed For Installation Pdaxrom

Hi, reading the pdaxrom-installing-how-to I've noticed that the tree files described here http://www.pdaxrom.org/node/48 aren't in the beta4 of pdaxrom.
The author says the tree files are:
initrd.bin, tools.tar, and updater.sh
but in the file http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...ita-current.zip
there aren't these files but the follwing:
autoboot.sh
kernel.img
rootfs.img

Why this?
Is correct if I use put these files in my SD to switch to pdaxrom from my current cacko?

Thanks in advance.

You really don't want to go messing around with this install. It lead me to erase my Japanese boot loader, afterward I
was crapping bricks when I no longer got the familiar 4 way selector in Japanese after pressing  power on with the OK button,
but instead a completely different bootloader was installed which could only be used with this particular OS.

I had to dig very hard on the Internet to restore the original bootloader. so please be very careful with this one!
you could easily brick the Computer if you make the slightest mistake !

I'm not sure about the USB Wifi, I guess you just have to try
Kernel is 2.6.26 with all Android 1.0 patches included for the upcoming 1.0 release.
I'm planning to release all source code later. First priority is to get the release ready!

very nice ! let me know if I can help. my influence is currently:

1. SL-C1000 pdaXii13 OS
2. Aircrack-ng 0.9
3. self compiled and patched rt73.o and rt2570.o kernel 2.4.20 modules for rt73 and rt2500 and rt2571 USB Wifi Cards
4. VB 6.0 Programming for MS Windows and MS DOS BASIC programming
5. Z80 Assembly Language Programming for customized USB, Serial and Parallel Port Peripherals
6. Z80 System development, design, and construction
7. Printed Circuit board design to 2 layers

I'm afraid I don't know C at all at the moment, but will give it a shot soon. Also, I am learning ARM Machine Code Assembly Language.

Hi Cortez.

thanks very much for doing this OS ! Good work !

Does USB Wifi work on this ? - I'm talking about getting an Internet connection with a Card ?
what kernel is it ? and is there any kernel source code available for the C1000 ?

thanks again, Allelectrix

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How Do We Get Online With Usb Wifi In Pdaxii13 ?
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:14:13 pm »
Hi all,

Anyone know how do we get online with USB Wifi in pdaXii13 ?

All iwconfig commands complete except:

iwconfig rausb0 ap 00:11:22:33:44:AA

so, when we issue the dhcpcd -h zaurus -G 192.168.1.254 rausb0 command we get no connection.

any ideas ?

tried this with rt73 and rt2570 cards.

perhaps we can edit an existing system script to make it work with rausb0 instead of wlan0, what script would this be ? - so
that we could use the GUI 'Network & WiFi' configurator .

Thanks all ! , Allelectrix

Linux Issues / Get Online Only Using Bash And A Usb Card
« on: October 24, 2008, 05:21:06 pm »
Hi all,

Heres how to get online with BT3:

insert the USB Card into the Hub. we are dealing here with the rt73 Card Edimax EW-7318USg Card but any RT73 card should do it.

open a BASH Shell and issue:

ifconfig rausb0 up
iwconfig rausb0 essid "essid_of_AP" channel X mode managed enc ABCDEF0123456789 ap 00:11:22:33:44:55

where:

1. essid_of_AP = the essid of the AP in quotes
2. X = channel AP is on. enter 2 for channel 2 or 11 for channel 11 etc,etc...
3. ABCDEF0123456789 = the HEX encryption key if the Network is using WEP. this will be either 6 or 13 bytes long.
4. ap = 00:11:22:33:44:55 replace this with the AP's MAC addresss

Now, if the HTTP control page is at 192.168.1.254 do next:

hostname

bt

the hostname is bt

finally, to get online using DHCP do:

dhcpcd -h bt -G 192.168.1.254 rausb0

if this command don't complete almost immediately, it will fail to connect. then check:

Is USB Card connected to a powered hub ?
Is the card on the same channel as the AP ?
Is the AP's MAC displayed after you issue iwconfig ?

QUESTIONS

Can someone please answer these for me:

1. How do we get the AP's MAC address listed with iwconfig in pdaXii13 using a USB Card ?
2. I have tried this method with pdaXii13 on a Zaurus SL-C1000. All commands load except:

iwconfig rausb0 ap 00:11:22:33:44:55

even though this command completes correctly, the AP's MAC is still not listed when afterwards we issue iwconfig .
therefore, does anyone know the solution to this ? because if we then try the dhcpcd command above, it fails,
as I said, all other parameters get loaded except AP, a rather annoying little problem.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks all, Allelectrix

xamindar wrote about his ralink rt2571 chipset card...

Hi there xamindar, thanks for your input into this very exciting thread.

eviLjazz and Capn_Fish still have my head reeling from all the big buzz they caused !

OK, first things first,  this card is an rt2571 chipset card. It just so turns out that I also have an rt2571 Card too !

When I try to load this card with the rt73.o module installed, it will not load at all.

When I try to load this card with the rt2570.o module, everything  works.

When I try to load my rt73 chipset card with the rt2570.o module, it starts up, but when I issue wireless-tools commands, it freezes
the system up or makes it run very slowly.

The solution therefore is a simple one:

I need the rt73.o module listed as I have an rt73 based card

You need the rt2570.o module as you have an rt2571 based card !

And here is the said module, which, in fact, I compiled yesterday from rt2570-k2wrlz-1.6.0 sources:

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

same as before, change .zip to .o then load to:

/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/wireless

delete the rt73.o module now, or move it out of the ..../wireless directory to say /mnt/card

then do:

depmod -a
modprobe rt2570

insert the card, the card fires up immediately.

execute:

iwconfig

you should see the card listed under the RT2500 driver and NOT the rt73 driver.

BTW All the modules in this thread feature packet injection in Monitor mode, and this one is no exception

let us know how you get on with this Module, all the best from all of us !
