Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / New CoDi subforum
« on: January 24, 2020, 03:43:23 pm »
Following a suggestion by a forum user (thanks Jujuyeh!) I have decided to open a new subforum solely dedicated to the cover display, a.k.a. CoDi. Since this is effectively a separate device with its own firmware, I thought it was easier to group all the discussions about CoDi here, so that for example you don't have to specify everytime you talk about flashing if it's about CoDi or Android. I have already moved all the on-topic threads that have been opened in the meanwhile here. Any comment or request will be welcome, as always.

I have also created and pinned a new thread with a link to Ninji's GitHub page with his custom CoDi firmware, for reference.

Hi,

now that the Cosmo is finally being released, we have expanded its section and created 3 new subforums, dedicated to Linux, Android and Sailfish OS, as we'll probably have an increased number of on-topic posts in the next weeks. We also have new RSS feeds covering all the Cosmo sections, added upon request from some of you. The feeds can be found on the bottom right part of the main forum's page, by clicking on the orange RSS icon and selecting the desired feeds (see the attached image below).

OESF Announcements / [SOLVED] OESF SSL certificates now expired
« on: June 17, 2019, 04:04:31 am »
Hi,

as you have noticed, the forum's SSL certificates have now expired and the forum is being probably blocked by your browser or antivirus program. I'm now getting in touch with our hosting provider, hoping that they'll fix this issue ASAP. In the meanwhile please disregard any security warning on this site until the issue will be sorted out, and sorry for any inconvenience.

Varti and the OESF team.

The Week 29 Update of the Cosmo Communicator has been published:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cosmo-co...tor#/updates/17

Four T0 samples of the Cosmo has been now produced and tested on the field, for tweaks that will be included in the next PR1 (production run). The first VoLTE call has been done on the Cosmo. Two videos have been released, demonstrating the Home screen GUI and the external cover display application. An order for the first mass production of the Cosmo Communicator has been also placed.

Now that I have updated to Oreo, the names of the apps in the home screen have disappeared, only their icons are shown. Since I can't recognize some of the apps solely by their icons, does anybody know how to put back all the apps' names under their relative icons?

Mike Halsey has released a new article on GeminiPlanet about the upcoming Android 8.1 release for the Gemini PDA, describing some of the new features that will debut on this version.

"Android 8.1 is expected to be available as an over-the-air (OTA) update later this week, with a download available for manual installation on rooted, or dual-boot devices soon afterwards."

Hi,

today I'm having some issues with the forum - each page sometimes need to be reloaded two or three times before it is fully loaded, and the pages are not always fully rendered (i.e. some images are missing). I have not seen any recent warning from our web hosting service about possible outages or maintenance periods. Before I get in touch with them, I'd like to know if anyone here is having the same problems as me.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / News from CES 2019
« on: January 07, 2019, 07:37:01 am »
If you have any news, photos and/or videos from Planet's booth at CES, please post them here!

I'll start by posting this tweet from Planet, showing the external display in action:

https://twitter.com/planetcom2017/status/1082000582133592070

Someone on Indiegogo has mentioned that the display itself will run Wear OS, acting as a standalone device, but no confirmation has been found yet, so at this point this is most likely a speculation.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Latest updates on Indiegogo
« on: December 20, 2018, 03:40:29 am »
We had a similar thread in the Gemini's subforum, I guess we might open one here too!

New update released yesterday: agreement with the Chinese factory now signed, they have now chosen to keep the P70 as the Cosmo's CPU instead of switching to the new P90, they'll attend CES 2019.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Forum issues now solved
« on: November 21, 2018, 03:53:35 am »
The forum was for the past ~12 hours offline, and a page was shown indicating an error that no connection could be made to the database. After some research I found that a password reset was required, as the old password was stored using an insecure hash value.

The forum is now back online, sorry for the inconvenience.

I'll start the thread (and these new subforums!) with an article from The Register:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/05/pl...o_communicator/

Interesting bits:
"We may do a version with less storage/less RAM version – and offer it for £399," mused Planet ’s CEO. The company now employs nine, including two full-time Android developers working on the apps. The K-9 derivative Airmail should be released in the next fortnight, and the Notes app will get voice dictation input."
