General Discussion / Fm Radio On The Z

I got one almost identical to the first model.  Well, actually it IS a standalone ordinary FM radio, except that there's an additional plug for 3.5mm jack.  The sound quality is just minimal.  After all, I still don't quite understand why bother to turn Z into such a giant FM radio, if a FM radio has now become as small as a finger tip?  Just my 2 zents.

Indeed

In fact, I noticed the first one I referred to was £25 at first, now it's £19, still too much for an FM tuner, especially as I've seen exactly the same ones on eBay for a few pounds.

I've got something working using the "invoke flite for each paragraph" approach. It works surprisingly well but I was only just able to run it on my SL5000D. OTOH, I do use very highly compressed documents which require several

Tim, PM me or send me an email if you want me to test it on Qtopia 1.7 on a Yopy with flite.

What type of performance are you getting with VPC and Linux?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69265\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'm not at the moment ;-) My Mac mini hasn't arrived yet, but it will soon I hope. I'm not expecting it to be fast, just fast enough, but of course that's relative. I'm not a speed demon. If it's faster than Virtual PC v2.0.1 on my old PowerMac 5500 I will be happy. :-) I used to run Win98, NT and Redhat quite happily.

Objective-C looks interesting, never even thought about it until I was reading up on Xcode, which also looks great. Can't wait to start playing...

Curt, I believe VPC7 is optimised for the G5, so I'd imagine it would be a wee bit faster.

Ok anyone know if this is doable

I wanna use a 860 to USB network with another portable device (which has USB HOST) basiclly using VNC would this work? (since the other device doesnt have a keyboard   or would i need USB host on the controlling device, (the other device is linux based also)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69233\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'm assuming a direct USB connection between the two. The device would need a USB host and the usbnet kernel module.

When I had a C860,  I got it from them, I was told on the phone they had a few in stock if I wanted to place an order immediately I'd get one. I did and then found out I would have to wait, it took the best part of a month if I recall, it felt like that anyway. Then when I did get it, their after-sales support was lousy. In fact the only support I got was on ZUG via Zuber.

I'd say if you're in the UK, i.e. within the EU, find another supplier that is also in the EU.

If they are not delivering what you want, don't deal with them. Companies usually pay attention when customers start going elsewhere.

I've been wondering about this, I'm about to switch and I've got a Yopy in my case, but I've been wondering about ARM code.

The best solution I've found is VirtualPC with Linux and the cross-compiler, or in my case directly using the Yopy's gcc compiler after testing in Xcode. I'd like to have the ability to develop and test GUI apps on the Mac though natively.

Tim, if you could add support for flite that would be excellent, the Yopy has flite running fine and it would work well if you spat small chunks of text as suggested above to it at a time.

Support flite!!

General Discussion / Fm Radio On The Z
« on: February 26, 2005, 07:29:32 am »
I've seen a few posts about FM radio on the Z, usually focussed around CF based tuners which are ok if you have a free CF port and are able to get/write software to drive it. I'm not aware of any such software myself though I could be wrong.

There is another way which some may know of or use and some may not have known or thought about: an inline FM tuner.    A tuner which connects to the headphone jack of your PDA (regardless of which type):

Here are a couple I've found - these have their own integrated heaphones, I've also seen one which has a jack for your own headphones - which I'm looking for.

FYI:

I hope this is of some help. FYI IMHO YMMV ;-)
