Accessories / Battery Extender Question

I had trouble with mine but I guess it was my choice of batteries.  I was using the Z while it was plugged in and also using cf wifi.  it wasn\'t quite enough juice coming from the extender so my Z\'s battery crept to a low level that completely crashed it to the point i had to reflash. also it zapped my car adapter when I tried to recharge it after what happened with the extender.

I can\'t believe I didn\'t think of this sooner. To play from my Z to my car and home stereo. groovy.
I am looking at this one on ebay.  Any words from experience?

I never knew about this, I think I\'ll try it out. Right now I listen to the stream off theclassicalstation.org and I\'m sharing that in case anybody else is a classical fan. I use their vog stream with xmms on OZ.  I help support them because when I pointed out to them that there was no mention of linux on their stream page they actually added instructions for it! Not that the instructions were needed for most linux users but I was impressed and so now I help support them because they have no funding outside of listeners.
Anyway, there\'s good classical and I will see if zradio works on my setup here.

Oh, its OK. I appreciate you taking a look and I\'m sure I can figure it out eventually or find one pre-compiled. I was just getting frustrated because it seemed it should be a simple matter but it is ending up taking me over a week to get all this figured out. I have cinerella installed and I\'m thinking if I read the instructions I can do it with that.

I\'m using Mandrake and I did\'nt see any binaries for it, the ones on the mdk CD would not install.  But it did compile by itself it was only when I added the libavcodec folder to the mplayer folder as per the instructions that it would not compile. Seemingly a problem with the ffmpeg code compiling more specifically.  

padisha_emporor: when I compile mplayer without adding the libavcodec to the directory it says at the end of configure
 extra codecs not included: libavcodec

is there an easier way to modify the avi?  after looking here at all the topics about it and looking every where else as well I am confused.
Oh well, I\'ll keep trying to figure it out I\'m just feeling kinda dumb right now.

OK after alot of checking this stuff out I found an mplayer ipk that worked on my 5500 with OZ.
The test file there played real nice so i am trying to do this encoding thing like the instructions there (http://www.zeb.uklinux.net/encoding.html) I am trying right now to compile mplayer on my laptop and it compiled fine by itself but then I saw on the page I got the mplayer from that you needed libavcodec so I got the file but now when I try to do \'make\' for mplayer it ends with an error related to the labavcodec files \' ad-ffmpeg: structure has no member fourcc\'  

all i want to do is watch some anime avi\'s that I have...  what should I do?

speaking of adapters, I biught a battery extender for my 5500 that uses 4AA batteries for when I\'m at school and it works ok to recharge the battery but I found out the hard way  that you can\'t run the Z with it like you can a regular power source.  The problem I decided is that the batteries don\'t supply enough amperage and so the battery in the Z crept lower and lower until it reached a point where it crashed so hard I had to reflash it and thank goodness it still works OK now. Although it did fry my car adapter when I tried to charge it after that.  I think modifying it to run 8 batteries with 2 parralel sets af 4 batteries in series may give it enough juice but does anyone know of a better version of this type of thing?

wow! this sounds exactly like what ive been looking for. like that ghost thing from that one company right?  i just have to ponder any possible implications of having my /usr and /opt on sd partitions.

ok so you ruled out the cards and the zaurus is ok...did you redownload the roms to rule out a corrupt file?

cant help you with the 6 but i carry my 5 on my hip and my cards in my pocket. not the cf wifi though,  i found out that one is semi-fragile and gets banged up in pocket.

ok, I got it. There was an entry in /usr/lib/ipkg/info/status for mplayer, once i deleted the entry it installed no problem.

i installed and removed a couple versions of mplayer (trying to find one that will work), now when i try to install one it says :

dealing with package /root/documents/mplayer_20030614-10_armv4l-strongarm.ipk
ERROR: package mplayer(parent mplayer) is not available from any configured src.
installing mplayer (0.90rc4) to root
failed to download mplayer

where 0.90rc4 is one i installed and removed before but not the one i am trying to install.
what i have done so far is to try yet another mplayer ipk and recieved the same results. and searched my files for any left overs from a previous install (find / -name *mpl* -print) and deleted them but still no change.
this is on a 5500 with oz 3.3.5

what am i doing wrong?

General Discussion / what does an error about lprng.postinstl mean?

ok, well I checked and  it is executable so i guess the problem is in the ipk\'s I install?

I looked at the script itself and it appears to be for a bunch of symlinks and I do not think I need those seeing as how my /usr and /opt are located in a sd card.  So should I be OK in ignoring this?  How can i fix it anyway, just so I don\'t see the message? Would I have to install bash?  The other lprng.* files are there but I don\'t get any errors for them.

Derekp, did you mean the lprng.postinstl script should have #!/bin/bash or the install script for the package I\'m installing?  My lprng.postinstl does have #!/bin/bash as the first line.
