Software / Mie Type File Association
« on: August 20, 2004, 10:55:14 am »
Does anyone know where the entry in mime.types points to, I thought that it pointed to the desktop file, but I have disproved that.

I renamed the hancomword.desktop to textmaker.desktop & textmaker.desktop to hancomword.desktop, rebooted & it still loaded hancom word when I selected a word file.

I am trying to make textmaker the default application for word docs.

Sharp ROMs / Can't install IPKs
« on: August 18, 2004, 05:15:25 am »
Posted in other forum to see if anyone can offer some help, withour success, reposting here in the hope that someone can help, perhaps Maslovsky.

I have tried to flash to Cacko 1.21 ROM using 4 separate downloads, all appeared to flash successfully, although I did get the following error message during the ROM install process, on each occasion.

'modprob can't locate module devinfo' (assume device info required by IPK installer)

All the standard apps work, but I can't load new applications, using the installer, even hotfix B failed on 2 of the downloads. It gives 1 of 2 error messages 'ipkg says something went wrong. Sorry' or 'The filename of this package includes characters this application can't handle. Please change the filename and retry install'

Cacko ROM looks good, but I will need to return to Sharp ROM, if I can't resolve the problem, except I can't find the instructions to return, searched forum & how tos.

Sharp ROMs / Can't install some apps using Cacko 2.21
« on: August 17, 2004, 11:03:30 am »
Some applications including the hotfix B won't install, for example I get 'The filename of this package includes characters this application can't handle. Please change the filename and retry install.' when I install from CF card, says 'Ipkg says something went wrong. Sorry' if I try to install hotfix from Internal flash.

I have downloaded 3 copies of Cacko & tried installing all 3, all with the same result.

I did notice an error message when installing all 3 copies 'modprob can't locate module devinfo'.

Any suggestions other than going back to the Sharp ROM.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko ROM - What Works
« on: August 17, 2004, 05:53:46 am »
Preparing to upgrade to the Cacko ROM, reformatted & copied all the files to a spare CF card, now backing up my C760, but having second thoughts. Can anyone confirm that the following will work with out any loss of functionality with the Cacko ROM.

Hancom Word
TextMaker beta
Hancom Sheet
StageOne
KO/Pi including sync with standard Sharp Calendar app.
KA/Pi
Portabase
QPDF
Zsafe
TKCzip
Shisensho
TkcVideo
TkcEditor
TkcExplorer
Kino2
Intellisync (Outlook to Zaurus Address Book, Calendar & E-mail)
Backup/Restore
Web Browsing & e-mail via Nokia mobile phone

Wish list for future versions would include SMS messaging, copy & paste between PC & Zaurus as well as printing, all of which I have been using for many years on my Psion. (TextMaker has a print option)

Thanks in advance

Windows Issues / Mapping Zaurus as a Windows disk drive
« on: August 11, 2004, 09:24:42 am »
Not sure that I have seen this in the Forum, so I thought I would post, just in case anyone finds it useful.

It is possible to map the Zaurus (Internal flash,, SD & CF Cards, so they can be used from within My Computer/Windows Explorer as well as any Windows application.

Ensure you have enabled TCP/IP (Advanced) networking on the PC & Zaurus.

Connect the Zaurus to your PC via USB cable & wait 30 seconds.

Load My Computer

Click Tools then Map Network Drive

Select the drive you want to be used to identify the Zaurus, e.g. Z drive.

Enter the following '\\192.168.129.201\home' in the Folder box. (Use the IP address of your Zaurus)

Click Finnish

The Zaurus should now appear alongside all the other disk drives, double click on it & you should be presented with a list of all the Zaurus drives.

You should be able map individual Zaurus drives or directories if you want, you can even create shortcuts.

Word of warning: Please remember to close any My Computer or Windows Explorer Windows that are pointing at the Zaurus, before you close the link.

Software / Textmaker beta
« on: July 28, 2004, 06:42:57 am »
I posted on the Softmaker forum nearly a week ago, but have had no replies, so I thought I would post here to see if anyone has any ideas.

The beta of Textmaker is far superior to Hancock Word, so I want to make it the default, only problem is Textmaker don't know how to do this & asked me to post on the forum.

I have tried adding an entry to the \home\QtPalmtop\etc\mime.types file:-

application\tm doc

and removing doc from the msword entry

and a couple of entries to the \home\QtPalmtop\apps\Applications\tm.desktop file:-

MimeType=application/doc
MimeTypeIcons=tm

Any suggestions?

Software / KO/PI Syncing Problem
« on: July 15, 2004, 05:15:24 am »
Installing KO/PI appears to have broken syncing between original Sharp C760 Calendar & Outlook applications, removing KO/PI does not fix it. E-mail sync still works, so it can only be a Calendar issue.

KO/PI is a great application so Ideally I would like to sync KO/PI with Outlook via the original Sharp C760 Calendar application, but will go back to the Sharp app. if I have to.

Can anyone suggest a way of getting Outlook sync working?

Can anyone help me to get my CF card (BC-307) GPS to work, I’ve searched the forums & googled & tried a number of solutions.

Card works OK on my Windows PC & Psion Netbook

Tried changing to the default ttyS3 port for CF cards

Downloaded the serial_cs driver to the rootmodules2.4.18-mk7-pxa3-embedix 0pcmcia directory

Tried every bit of GPS software I can find including qpeGPS, qtgps & zGPS.

Any help would be much appreciated
