Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.3 Bug List
« on: April 20, 2005, 05:02:58 am »
Some bugs have been found in Open Zaurus 3.5.3. We all know at least one.

Please use this thread in order to list them, so that the developpers' work become more efficient.

Please organize your posts, it will be easier to read. A static form could be usefull. I suggest this form

- Zaurus model
- kernel version
- opie or gpe
- last upgrade date
(bugtracker where bug is reported and bugnumber)

SOLUTION (if found) :

I hope it will be useful.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus Ui Freezes If Suspended Too Long
« on: March 08, 2005, 03:42:41 pm »
Sorry for coming back to an old post, but i noticed today that my Zaurus only freezes when i set the backlight to very different levels when the Z is pluged in and when it is not.

If i set the light to maximum when the zaurus is plugged and to minimum when it runs on battery, suspend when plugged, then unplug it and then have the zaurus back on, the Z freezes nearly every time.

Don't know if it is revelant, but i think so...

I  really thank you pgas. I don't think i will use your prog, as i never send emails from my zaurus. Nevertheless, your description of the way you compiled it is very intersting. I hope i'll be able to understand it, to understand the general cross compiling process. It will be easier to do it with such an exemple.

It is a really great initiative, i once again thank you for it. Maybe someone could edit a wiki page with a step by step explamation about cross compiling with basic exemples and then, why not, some harder ones (compiling the needed libs, for exemple...). The pdaxrom community could this way get more and more developpers event though cross compiling is not as easy as a "./configure; make; make install" and requires some specific skills everyone do not have.

Once more, I see that you can always find someone to explain you what you don't understand in the linux community.

hi HardenCoonor !

a command to put the zaurus into suspend mode via a pure console, with no x11

Code: [Select]
apm -sor
Code: [Select]
apm -suspend
That is not a major contribution to this conversation, but that is the best my poor little non-developper brain can do

it happens to me sometimes, on my 750.

Just for information, it also happens when you suspend the Z while you don't use X (using the command "apm -s") and leave it for some days. When you turn it back on, it automatically close the session and you have to log in again.

Hope it means something to you...

Ho, by the way, i have no wifi card...

Alex : your VisualBoyAdvance works !?! I mean is it fast enough to let you play a game ? What arguments do you use ? What game do you play ?

oh yes please please please pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease pleaseplease please !!!!!!!!!!

scoutme : no matter what option i tried, i never got faster than 60% or so of normal speed... Even if pdaxrom is getting faster and faster, i doubt a zaurus will be powerfull enough to emulate gba. :'(

BUT WE HAVE TO TRY IT ! I own a gba (the first one, not the SP version) and i can't see anything on it... The Z screen is so beautifull... Did you know Sharp produces the Nintendo DS screen ?

thanks pgas.

Flashing RC9.1 solved the pb.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc9.1 For The Brave..
« on: February 15, 2005, 10:15:26 am »
I did flash RC9.1. It works without too much pb on my 750.

I flashed it with the c760 kernel, as described here ( ) in order to have only a root partition (i didn't know if it would work without doing this, and i didn't want to waste my time).

Good points :
- I like the new package manager interface, i missed the description and the list of dependencies on RC9.
- VLC gui is back !!!! That is good news.
- The new "Start menu" with bold fonts is much better.
- It may be subjective... but i feel like this version is a bit faster than the previous one.

Bad points :
- I tried installing Xemacs but i didn't chek how much space it would need. Of course, i didn't have memory enough, so the installation crashed. I got stuck into a "no space left on device" error and had to manually rease /home/tmp/ipkg/*. I know it is my fault, but it would be great if we could have a tool checking there is enough space on device BEFORE the installation and the downloading process begins. Plus I can't uninstall xemacs anymore... The icon is here, on the desktop, the bin is in $PATH, but when i launch it, i have a "Bus error". I think i'll have to manually erase all the files xemacs have installed...
- EDIT : I still have troubles with mplayer. It randomly crashes when playing different videos. My guess is that it is related to ffmpeg as if i use the "-vo null" argument the audio part plays without any pb, but i admitt i don't know much about all this.
- That is all !

Once again, you did a very good job !
Thanks again.

VLC worked just fine untill now, but in RC9, i have no GUI anymore... from the command line, a remote control interfae is directly launched...

Why is that ?

Dear pdaxrom team :

thanks a lot for this new version, as usual, you did a great job !

yet there still is a pb when you try to install it on a 750 with only a root partition and no /usr (which by the way is becoming more and more important as the rom size is going bigger and bigger).

when installing the rom on a single partion c750, you get stuck into a VFS error (unable to mount root on i don't remember what). The only way to have it working is to use Hine's hack :

On Linux PC(or your Z)
1: Extract tools.tar
tar xvf tools.tar
2: Copy the C760 kernel on the C750 kernel.
cp ./tools/kernel-c760/zImage.bin ./tools/kernel-c750/zImage.bin
3: Remake tools.tar
mv tools.tar tools.tar.orig
tar cvf tools.tar ./tools/
4: You will use this tools.tar to install RC8.

On Your C750
5: Boot Installer
6: Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "3 Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit (SL-C760/C860 only)"
7: Reboot Installer
8: Change root partition size
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "1 Resize root partition"
Input "57"
9: Reboot Installer
10: Install RC8
Select "1 Install new ROM"

which uses the c760 kernel instead of the c750 one.

NOTE : File names have changed since RC8, so this hack has to be editted, but the global idea is here.

Do you think you can do something about this in future release ?

I hope this will be usefull for someone, it was for me...
