Sharp ROMs / streaming movies of laptop over usb cable

Hi,

i\'d love a few quick pointers regarding this. I\'m going away on holiday and bringing my old broken screen laptop to store my photos on (using vncviewer of z). How is the best way to stream movies off my laptop onto my Z?

What package of samba works on the c860? Can i setup a direct file streaming server?

Hi,

I have been wondering about this for a while now. Since USB is bidirectional, is there a way to emulate a usb host in software using the client port on the c860?

I understand that there would be no power supply available on the client port, but this could be implemented in a cable. Apart from this though, what other hardware features are missing from a client side implementation of USB? Is there normally a hardware generated clock signal provided by the host?  

The reason i\'m thinking of this is that normally it is not conceivable to use a client usb device as a host - but in this case the client is intelligent and not a passive device like a camera, etc...

Hi,

I know this topic has been approached before, is there a good replacement (non-commerical) that will run under cacko or X/QT?  I like Hancom Excel loads, but as regards Word Processor Hancom Word is very poor.

Does ABIWORD work under X/QT?

Hi,

I would like to know if you can power down a CF card / microdrive by software - i assume something using cardctl or something. What is the power drain in this situation? Would i notice a CF card in general sitting in my Z in terms of battery life?  

It\'s easy to remove the SD card, but i put my brothers 340 meg microdrive card in and i found it very difficult to remove without removing the pdair case first.

Sharp ROMs / Remapping the keys for the Cacko music player

When i am walking around town i like to have my z in my pocket playing away some tunes. I like to keep the volume binded to the scrollkey from the application menu.  

The thing is, i would love to be able to map the ok and cancel keys so that i could use them to change tracks up and down the playlist.

I understand that the cancel key is used to turn back on the lcd if you use the music player to turn it off, so this key would ideally be remapped to any other key button.

Does the lcd off option, actually turn off drawing on the lcd or does it just turn off the backlight?

Hi,

About the only application i\'m really missing is a really good filemanager. It\'s slow work dropping down to the command line just to copy some files around. Is there a good file manager available,  even something like console based like midnight commander?

Hi,

If i have a file extension, how do i modify/create a mime type for this so that filemanager will open the correct program. E.g. editing certain types of files with the text editor.

Software / backup data files from ko/pi & addressbook

Hi,

I would like to start using Ko/pi in earnest. What is the best way to keep this data, as i remember all too well in my palm Vx days losing a bit of stuff every now and then and getting fedup with it.  Can I backup the data files directly, if so what files?   What does the backup utility in cacko do?  Is it possible to sync this program?  

Also, regarding the addressbook files, basically the same questions again. Is it possible for someone to list the relevant files? I would like to create a script that i could execute whenever to tar these files and place them either on my SD card or my Samba share on my workstation.

Hi,

I have had this issue since I got my C860, but I have lived with it. Now with 1.21B I have my Z all running sweetly so i will raise this issue to you all.

The problem is that irregularly the Z will just suspend, even if i\'m not touching it. It doesn\'t happen too much to be annoyed with, and will never happen when i am playing videos or mp3\'s. It also sometimes happens when i remove my ipda (charge/sync) cable.

Any ideas? It doesn\'t seem to be a hardware issue, so as such i\'m not very worried about it.

Hi,

can you tell me is there a way to turn of my z? It seems to use a non-neglible amount of power in suspend, and even plugging in/out a pair of headphones i can hear noise indicating that this circuitry is powered. My Zaurus seems to have drained itself to switch off from 40% power to not switching on over a few days (I know, wtf am i leaving my Z for a few days!). The same thing happened when it was shipped to me, it was shipped with a full battery, but a month later when it arrived it was dead (it got lost...).  It then takes a few minutes on charge before it will switch on.

Software / terminal for IR connection to Nokia phone?

Hi,

i\'ve been trying to setup GPRS between my 6610 and Meteor (Ireland) for days now. I have one string which will connect to the modem, retrieve ip, gateway, dns but won\'t let me transmit any data whatsoever.
AT&FE0V1&D2S0=0S7=10

I got the following string from meteor today, but the phone shows that it connects via ir but gprs is not initialised. The Z has to then be reset before i can make any other connection.
AT+CGDCONT=1,\"IP\",\"ISP.MYMETEOR.IE\"

I need a way to connect to the phone in the terminal. How is the ir connection managed below the graphical level? I need to be able to send commands manually so that i can check the status myself.

BTW, GSM over IR works perfectly + the dialup for GSM i use is *99#

Software / Cannot copy because of an i/o error?

Hi, I am having a little trouble sometimes copying stuff over to my zaurus using the usb storage setting. some files transfer fine, but some cancel stating an i/o device error.

BTW, Elena is great! I\'m really enjoying my Z!!

Software / Consolidation of Zaurus software feeds needed

Hi,

I think we should have a webpage, or at least a sticky in each relevant forum (pdax, cacko, sharp...) where there is an updateable list of software resources for the Z.

I\'ve only got my Z, but having read the ZUG for the past month and a half I found much software i wanted to try and finding it now is difficult! I\'m sure that there is much more software that people have compiled but that noone may be aware of.

The webpage would only need to be simple, divided into sections with links and short descriptions...

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Problems with unread posts

Hi,

When i log into to the forum, and click on the link to posts since i last visited i get a list of new posts. However when i log in again, i cannot see which posts i have not read.

In other words when i log out it marks all posts as read, which is very annoying. Is there a reason why this happens?
