General Discussion / Moderator: Please Stop Moving My Posts !
« on: February 01, 2005, 03:57:42 am »
I posted a message about a general newbie question regarding the 6000L:.  As I stated in my my post I had done searching in the 6000L area and found nothing that worked for me.

THIS IS THE GENERAL AREA.  MORE SPECIFICALLY, THIS AREA GETS THE MOST ATTENTION, HENCE THE REASON I USED IT.

Almost every post here could be split into another forum as the user will specify a certain model.  Yet, I don't see that happeneing.  Sometimes posts are moved by model and other times they are not.....Even when the Model number is in the post title !

This whole moving idea needs to be rexamined.  The General forums are for ALL models and for NO Models. in particular. More specifically,  this general forum is the best place to get exposure to your post as most people visit this forum and perhaps one or two others.

So unless you plan to move every single post that mentions a model number (thereby killing this General forum) , I suggest that you only move them when absolutely necessary.

Granted this is a subjective matter, but the 6000L forum does not get the amount or depth of audience that this forum gets.  And more over, someone may have insight into my issue that they experienced with another model.

I could see moving the post if I was doing a FOR SALE or  a DEAL POST, but when I am tallking about a Z uissue and have already done some research, I think after 400+ posts you could safely assume that I put the post here FOR A REASON.

I would appreciate it if you would move my post BACK to this forum, as I would like to get a response before I die of old age.

Thanks.

6000 - Tosa / 6000l Help Needed. Need To Do Two Things.
« on: January 31, 2005, 11:52:06 pm »
Okay, These are newbie questions, but I am new to the 6000L.

I DID search and found posts on this, but none seem to work for me...

I have installed iirc and IRDA in various forms and versions, but I don't even see the icon for the progam on my 6000L, much less be able to configure it.

I have a Targus "Universal" IRDA keyboard and I want to hook it up to my 6000:L.  Like I said, I checked all the posts and tried things from the IRDA homepage, so please don't redirect me there.  All I am asking is for a direct link to what I need to install (as if from scratch...so all dependencies as well) to get the 6000L supported.  Someone who actually has the Targus model keyboard would be great, but any irda 6000L user's help would be greatly appreciated.

Like I said, I don't even see the program after install (and reboot), so I am as far away at making this work as I can get.

Secondly, I want to install TELNET for 6000L...which is the best IPK to get Telnet on the 6000L (I would prefer a simple IPK install as opposed to a tarball).

Once I get Telnet installed, could someone tell me where I would access a external drive connected via USB host (ie: which directory and how can I mount it for read write...for example a USB flash drive connected to the USB host port.).

Thanks in advance.  I am just tired of pulling my hair out over these issues, especially since I am fairly certain the keyboard is supported by some version and telnet is definately out there.

Must be having one of those bad days.

Please specify actual URLs whereever possible and as much detail as you have time for.

Thanks so much.

General Discussion / Uses For 6000l Host Port. What Specifically ?
« on: January 13, 2005, 06:33:51 am »
Greetings,

I was wondering if people could reply to this post with USB devices that they used successfully with thier 6000L (or 3000) host port.

Like keyboards, harddrives, etc.

Please be specific as to model and portability.  I am looking for a nice portable keyboard that I can plug into USB (instead of IRDA as I want a cheap one).

But also, any other devices that people have gotten working like HDDs, card readers, etc.

I know the USB spec allows for upto 500ma to be available to a device, so please also note whether the device you use impact battery life.

Thanks to all who reply.

Off Topic forum / Not Z Related But Many A Good Deal So I Figured
« on: November 23, 2004, 03:16:55 am »
[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']Dell is having a huge holiday promotion.[/span]

Just goto The Dellfe page  and register.

Once registered, you can play once.

Then select "tell my freinds and enter 4 names and email addresses and you will get 4 more chances to play.

A couple of things to know.

When registering...you can enter fake info in the whole form, but I suggest using an email that you really have access to.  (Also you can enter your home address as many times as you like, which means you may get more promotions by  regular mail).

Each registration reguires a different email address.  The reason for using a valid email on you registration is that if you win a big prize (like a plasma TV) they will EMAIL you the code !

When entering "friends" names and addresses, you can pretty much enter anything (even invalid email addresses).

Each time you play, you will ALWAYS get some sort of "single use" discount code.  (I suggest keeping them all as you may find one to swap with someone else).

Lastly, if you try this and find it useful, please feel free (to thank me) by PMing me any "$1 LCD or $1 LCD TV with the purchase of a Dimension desktop" codes that you might get  (I could really those, if you are not going to use them.).  I'll also take any other codes you don't want, but the 17 inch LCD and/or 17 inch LCD TV (both require a purchase) ones are at the top of my list.

ENJOY IT.....Whiile it lasts !!!

Deals and Great Z Buys / Amazon Phone #: 1-800-201-7575

Amazon Phone #: 1-800-201-7575

You may never need it, but when you do, you could spend hours trying to track it down.

So it seems appropriate for our deal forum to have this little treasure of information when Amazon's (admittedlY GREAT) email support is too slow or (in rare cases) not helpful.

(oh yeah, I HAD to enter a message or it would not post....hence the change o heart).

General Discussion / Strange thought...Why couldn't I.....
« on: October 27, 2004, 01:38:48 am »
This occured to me today....I know everyone uses Bluetooth to connect to the internet with the zaurus....but I thought why couldn't I run a cable from the MIc/Headphone of the Z straight to the headphone OUT of the phone and manually dial an ISP.

Is there no way to configure the Z to use  the Mic-input as a TCP/IP medium?

I am a total newbie regarding hardware, so forgive me if this is a stupid question....it just seemed theoretically possible....

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Aircable Bluetooth and C860 - No luck
« on: October 19, 2004, 03:18:46 pm »
Please help, tryring to connect the Z with a Aircable Bluetooth adaptor to my notebook.  I installed the two IPKs listed in the howtos and folliwed the directions.  I never forund any file called DialuppIRXXXX for my network config and the whole instructions are a bit vague about how to connect to a notebook instead on a cellphone.

I just want to sync or view files on my notebook and I setup the notebookm to accept connections and allow these services.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW I tried plug/unplug and blue light goes on for a second...same happens when I reset for 5 seconds.

Aircable seems fairly popular, but I am having a heck of a time getting it to see my notebook or even getting it to scan for devices.
