Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Is The Site Server Dying?
« on: May 10, 2006, 05:10:55 pm »
The site appeared to turn off at 9:30 am EST and turn back on about 5:00 pm EST today. Pinging seemed reliable while the web content was unreachable.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Is The Site Server Dying?

offroadgeek -- not meaning to pressure you, but to provide ammunition when you deal with the hosting service. You have to give your work priority. Shelling out all that money for a hosting service and still having it suck up time malfunctioning is a real pain.

Like some others above, my sense is that things are still deteriorating. Yesterday I read a post, typed a reply, then couldn't get it to post or access anything else at the site for five or six hours afterwards. I later found that a couple of times it had in fact posted but I did not get the confirming screen and couldn't tell.

Good luck getting the hosting service to deal with the problem. Maybe it would help to tell the hosting service the users of this fairly geeky site include a high percentage of people who manage web services and there will be a lot of bad word-of-mouth if they keep screwing up?

General Discussion / I Mounted A 2 Gig Sd Card!
« on: May 09, 2006, 11:48:46 pm »
Could someone tell me how to restart the sd control processes using either the original script from Dr Wowe or bimbo's version? I am running Cacko 1.23 Lite on a C860. When I install the ipk and reboot, I can read a 2GB or 4GB card fine. Once. But suspending or unmounting and removing the card kills the process and after that the sd slot is entirely dead. Inserting a card, trying to mount /dev/mmcda1, and other attempts all fail and don't even generate any error messages in dmesg. If I remove and reinstall the driver ipk, things work again. But only once.

I've tried quite a few commands to reset or restart the sd control processes when this happens, but apparently not the right ones, or at least not in the right order. What's the trick?

General Discussion / Does the C860 have SDIO?

Sorry for the multiple posts. With the site down, they didn't seem to be going through from my vantage point.

General Discussion / Does the C860 have SDIO?

I can confirm my c1000 has working SDIO which supports 4 bit mode and DMA/irqs

I have it working here (at work) with a WiFi card. Even a debug driver is achieving 4.5Mbps, and it should go faster than that.

Now the bad news:

I am not using Sharps sd module, but our own driver. SDIO drivers will not be open source - you have to pay royalties and licenses, and may not distribute the protocol.

So if some 3rd party (comercial) were to make Zaurus WiFi SDIO cards, and ship pre-build modules, this would be entirely possible, at least on a c1000.

Thanks,
Tim

I assume you are familiar with the C-Guys SD WiFi card discussed above in this thread? There has been progress adapting the C-Guys driver for that card at least to support memory cards above 1 GB recently, as explained in several threads.

Maslovsky, the man responsible for the Cacko improvements to the Sharp ROM, has my C-Guys card now. To the extent that there are software pieces missing between what C-Guys created and what you have, he might be in a good position to judge whether the gaps can be closed.

Anton, what do you think? tjchick, what specifically can you offer beyond what is available from C-Guys? Are there parts of your driver not within the SD license that could be released open source? Would that be useful absent the proprietary portions? Could parts of your work be adapted to the C-Guys driver, which is readily available?

Has the updater.sh changed since beta 1? IOW, can I use the same one?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126022\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I guess not, 'cause unless there's some other problem, I get 'model C860' then 'invalid model, please reset'.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126025\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I got the beta3 install to work on my C860 using the Cacko 1.23  updater.sh, oddly enough, though the versions from recent pdaXrom versions reported by others to work did not work for me. But beta3 seemed to have some problems and did not recognize my large sd cards, which was my immediate interest, so I reflashed.

Security and Networking / Bluetooth Usb Dongles (first Time User)
« on: May 04, 2006, 11:58:01 pm »
I can't be too helpful, but will venture a couple of comments. My Socket bluetooth dongle was easily recognized in Cacko 1.23 and I had it working at one point for PAN networking, but the hard drive crashed and I haven't set it back up as I wasn't using it. I use the dongle regularly to connect to my Motorola E810 for dial-up low-end broadband on my cell phone, and it works easily and reliably both on the Z and with my laptop. Most bluetooth dongles have one of the two supported chips AFAICR and the Widcomm software is very common, so I would guess that you just have a configuration issue.

I found the documentation and instructions available to be difficult and a bit dated as you did. You might try posting to the long bluetooth driver thread you referenced and see if you can get some configuration help from one of the experts.

I see the same lack of response regularly at around the same time as Jon_J these days.  l can dependably get an initial list of new posts, but then can't read any of them. Later in the day, things are back to normal.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.1.0beta2 Feed

There was another thread on this recently, which led to a feed for the beta2 packages but not the beta2 files themselves. Perhaps we'll have more success this this time?

By now my mirrors are Beta2 but this week I go change to Beta3..

Thanks for the link to the feed. I need to flash beta2 itself first, though. Does anyone know where that is?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Beta2?
« on: April 23, 2006, 08:33:26 pm »
I'm wondering the same thing as I am interested in putting one of the newly less expensive big SD cards in my 860. Unless a newer beta for the 860 is imminent, it would be nice to have beta2 back on line. Perhaps this is a mix-up as the new site is being organized?

X/Qt / Which Version X/qt Best For 3100 & Install Issue

Then I rebooted and I now see the X/Qt tab. Tapped on the 'StartX' icon and I see the explosion graphic over the icon but X doesn't start up....

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Do you get to the gray X background behind your original toolbar? If so you may be able to press "Menu" and select "Fullscreen" and be there after all. Sometimes the X/Qt window manager toolbar is hidden behind the original toolbar.

Otherwise, you might try the compressed images if you haven't already. I've found them very convenient.

[there are now so many other psp external batteries that the pelican can be pretty much ignored.  Mine is in a desk drwaer..and a 3800mah batter is in my "zaurus bag"
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=121940\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Perhaps people could list external batteries they recommend for those now abandoning the Pelican? I'm interested in 3600mah or greater.
