Zaurus - pdaXrom / Samba And Friends
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:07:56 pm »
Hi,

Anyone know a decent but short howto configure samba properly ?
I don't want all the details, just a step by step how-to.

I compiled LinNeighborhood and can see all computers (Win and Linux) in the network and see their shares, but it doesn't want to mount them.

Where do I go wrong ??

(also compiled gsambad but it has too many options I don't understand, time to catch up with some reading I guess)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Troubles After Crash In R121
« on: January 18, 2007, 08:33:50 am »
Hi,

As the topic says, I'm having some (a lot of) troubles.

Yesterday I was using tuxcards on my zaurus through ssh on my laptop. I didn't notice the battery on my laptop going down and my laptop suddenly went into hibernation-mode.
This caused my Z (which was x-forwarding tuxcards) to freeze with a blank screen.
Nothing helped, I couldn't get the ssh-connection back up, ctrl-alt-bs didn't work to get out of X, couldn't suspend any more, ...
I pulled out the battery, rebooted and now it always says "no space left on device" and I can't do anything that needs disk-access.

dmesg gives me a lot of "Argh, couldn't do this or that ...... no space left ...."

df gives me about 18Mb free on /, so I do have some space left.
Cleaning /var or /tmp is not an option : rm doesn't work "no space left ..."

I rebooted and I remounted / -> no go.

Any suggestions ??

Not having fun,
Chero.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Syncing Windows Mobile
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:40:32 pm »
Hi,

Just curious,

Is anyone interested in syncing the zaurus with a pocket pc ?

I'm trying to set this up using multisync, synCe.
It requires newer bluez, which requires a newer dbus (compiling right now).

Until now I was able to :
- get synCe and friends compiled
- get multisync compiled
- get synCe multisync plugin compiled
- get synCe file plugin compiled

- connect to my Windows mobile phone using synce (cradle and bluetooth)
- make my Z say it's a laptop when bluetoothing
- see my phone trying to start syncing, but then it fails cause the Z can't tell it's an activesyncpartner.

Stopping the cradle doesn't work, it freezes the Z, or makes everything segfault.

To be able to make my Z an activesync partner, I need newer bluez-utils.

There are talks on the internet about syncing a pocketpc to a ".ics" file. My goal is to use synce (multisync) to sync my phone to Ko/Pi.

Any hints, comments, ... ?
(Don't tell me I'm a dreamer, I already know that ...    )

Is there someone around here that uses (or used) synCe before ?

For the GPE-users : multisync has a GPE-plugin.

Having fun,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gtodo2
« on: August 18, 2006, 03:04:32 pm »
Hi,

Has anyone already seen this :
 [ Invalid Attachment ]

More info : http://wordpress.qballcow.nl/2006/02/27/gtodo2/

This is the todo-list-manager I've been looking for. It can work with multiple lists, has alarms, doesn't take up too much screen space (qtodo does).... . But developement seems to have slowed down or stopped. I think I could already use

I've downloaded the source (svn) and have been trying to compile it.
I had to include a few files (types.h and time.h) and to correct a few syntax errors (typos), but now I'm stuck on this :
When trying to compile I get :
"undefined reference to 'gtk_icon_view_get_cursor'"
(4 times)

When I remove the lines that call 'gtk_icon_view_get_cursor', gtodo2 compiles fine, but it segfault when trying to run it. The only error I get is :

Gtk-WARNING **: Useless empty GtkIconSource

Anyone has a clue what I should do next ?

Please help us bring this great app to pdaXrom,

Have fun,
Chero.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Graphical Login For Pdaxrom
« on: May 08, 2006, 02:27:55 am »
Hi all,

I managed to get xdm working on boot, so now I have a graphical login.

I'd like to use another login manager (such as gdm or "entrance"). I know entrance(d) has been compiled, but it's not usable as such because it calls the xserver with the option "-quiet" (hardcoded) which isn't recognized by the pdaX Xserver.

Has somebody already been playing with gdm ? Most (if not all) of the dependencies are in the feed. If anybody could provide an ipk, then I could test it.
I don't have a zgcc installed myself for the moment as it's not available for beta3 (I think) and I don't really want to go back to beta2 or 1. (btw : the files are not on the pdaX site any longer)

@ scoutme : ctrl - alt - bs brings me back to the login screen, so if you combine this with the screensaver-with-password, your Z is safe.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Feh Image Viewer
« on: December 02, 2005, 04:15:09 pm »
hi,

I was having troubles with gqview to view pictures taken with my digital camera.
Usually this are 700K or 350K pictures. It takes ages to go from one to another in gqview.

I found feh, compiled it and like it.

There is also a cam module, to view webcams, I didn't try but included it in the ipkg.

feh requires imlib2 and giblib.

to see all options :
# feh --help
to "slide-show"
cd to the dir with pics
# feh ./
to view thumbnails
# feh -t ./

Have fun

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mybudget
« on: October 20, 2005, 02:01:33 pm »
I'm trying to get "myBudget" working.

It installs (after I installed some required packages), but then it segfaults. I see it needs "pyLibglade" and "pyGconf". Google isn't my friend in finding them, does anyone have an idea ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Finding The Right Settings And Feeds ...
« on: September 28, 2005, 02:25:19 am »
Hi,

I just flashed my C860 to OZ-GPE.
I used the kernel located in the 3.5.3 official unstable release (openzaurus.org)

Then I added "machine" to the feeds as well as "http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/feed/" as this last one holds about all the packages I'd like to try. I called this last one "upgrades", or can I call it anything I like ?

I used "ipkg install" to install a few apps (kopi, kapi, gpe-filemanager, xfce4-panel, xfwm4). I didn't get any error messages.
I can't start any of these.

Kopi and kapi are "not found"
The others give me messages about missing libs.

Where did I go wrong ?

edit :
trying to logout : black screen with cross
trying hard reboot (battery out) : nothing

I'll have to reflash anyway. (fifth time since I started trying)

Could somebody please give me the right steps ?

Here are some screenshots of version 0.1.2 running on my Z :

It's really fast and easy to use.
As it is only version 0.1.2 (sept.02 2005), I presume the best is yet to come !!

I was looking for a good outliner, and found a lot of posts/sites talking about Treeline.

I gave it a shot, and it works on pdaX :

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xfce4 Finetuning
« on: July 25, 2005, 04:58:47 am »
Hi,

Just a thread for fine-tuning xfce4, post your tips, tricks and files over here.

I've been playing with xfce4-menu plugin for the panel.

The menu plugin also includes a file browser, and a mount tool.

The default ipk does only include an empty menu, so I figured out how to make a full one. It's in the attached ipk. (Both "user shortcuts" and "applications")

I noticed that the panel crashes if there is no file to store "recent-files". I included this file in the ipk too.

X/Qt / X/qt-debian Using Xfce4
« on: March 13, 2005, 02:23:04 pm »
Hi,

I've been working on a setup for pocketworkstation, but didn't like ice.
I installed xfce4 and use this instead.
It's faster and seems better suited for small screens.
If you use iconbox instead of taskbar and set the behaviour of the panel as normal instead of on top, you can use the full screen for your apps !!

Chero

Take a look(The Gimp, xfce4-panel, kbudget):
