General Discussion / newbie questions - epoc pasion
« on: May 17, 2004, 06:00:33 am »
coming from the psion, I am now using a 5500. I am quite happy with the device, but the keyboard is as not so fine as yours on the 860. With the 5500 openzaurus is quite likely, since it is as stable as the psion os. From the people who use the 860 I hear they are quite fine with a cacko rom named elena. Maybe someone with a cackorom can be some advice.
Cheers,
Sam

5x00 General discussions / Rom Update going badly
« on: May 17, 2004, 05:49:44 am »
You should specify which Zaurus you own. As you see some people with the big zauri thinking about nand restores. If you have 5500 or 5000 you could try to reflash by using a compact flash card. There are a lot of installation guides. For example you find an installationguide at the Openzaurus site. In the case of sharprom is then the same procedere as openzaurus, just by using a file named ospack instead (on your sharp cd) of the two files zImage and init.rd in the case of openzaurus.

Openzaurus is a nice choice! You can also try mplayer+xmms+mplayer plugin for xmms to play divx etc.
For the openzaurus 3.3.6-pre1 you there is a lot of software, but some will run after you link them with old libs by using the compat-libs. Please search for further information about compat-libs. I think there should be a lot of threads. For Pim you can synchronize Openzaurus with Evolution on Linux machines by using multisync. It works fine. About email I cant provide you with help, because I dont use email on Zaurus. WIFI Network locating I think you can use a tool named wellenreiter, but I am not sure about that (I dont have WLAN). With a little work you can also get Hancomoffice running on openzaurus.
Game: I love to play mahjonng on the Zaurus.

Sam

Cxx0 General discussions / C860 Questions
« on: May 15, 2004, 06:18:08 am »
Hi,
all of you should be very aware using external power. I dont have a c860 but have read lot about distroyed Chargingunits in the Zauri, by using cheap 5v adaptors. Please search in the forum, so you may find which adaptor is sure to be used or just ry to buy an adaptor from the Z Models that are provided in your country by sharp. The Adaptor from the 5500 Series for example should work with the c Series too.

5x00 General discussions / Csound on sl5500?
« on: May 14, 2004, 04:58:59 pm »
If you downloaded the ipk with a windows system, some windows versions just add a zip extension. You could set windows to see file extensions and then rename it to ipk, if windows has added a zip extension.
Just a possible cause for your problem, hope that helps.

General Discussion / swap partition
« on: May 12, 2004, 01:09:45 pm »
I heard this would destroy soonly  CF, SD or the intenal jffs2 Flash. Maybe you this according to previos discussions. But maybe newbees cant relocate past discussions and should be aware of installing swap.

Themes, Icons, and Backgrounds / Nice wallpapers
« on: May 09, 2004, 06:33:57 pm »
Hi,
for the 5500 there is a nice page:
http://zaurus4u.de.vu/
I am not sure if this page is in german or not, because it is offline in the night. This Guy provides this site by a server in his room, so when he goes to sleep....
You jus have to know, when it is night in Germany.

6000 - Tosa / connecting my SL-6000 to a (Debian) linux box
« on: May 09, 2004, 09:15:11 am »
I dont have a root password, but the Zaurus (5500 with OZ 3.2) is accepted. I had to deal with ./ssh/known_hosts file. You can try to comment out the rsa key for the zaurus ip, if exist. Then you are able to accept the new rsa key, that you receive from the zaurus. The case that you have a not valid rsa key in your known_hosts file  may occur for example, when you get a new Zaurus connected or flash a new rom on your Zaurus.
Hope this helps.

General Discussion / How to turn off the zaurus LCD?
« on: May 02, 2004, 10:23:25 am »
Openzaurus provides the option to disable the lcd. There you can setup the time, for example disable lcd after 30 seconds. Also xmms works quite usable under openzaurus. You canreach this setup under settings -] light & power

Hi,
I found this way was quite easy:
http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?n...rticle&sid=7594
The Howto describes the wy to update to opie 1.0 but you can just use the packages from the 1.0.3 feed instead:
http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/1.0.3/
Cheers,
Sam

(Thanks to Kathrin aka vishnja I was originally adviced by in this topic)

The Battery Applett ist Buggy in OZ 3.3.5:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/3.3.5/c...ie/README.FIRST
The Batterypatch is Missing.
 Possible Solutions:
1) Use 3.2 and Update Opie to 1.0.3 (Thats what I am doing)
Or:
2) Use 3.3.6-pre1, but then you have to use a lot of Apps with the compat-libs, because of GCC 3 in OZ 3.3.6-pre1. You can find 3.3.6-pre1 under experimental at the OZ Site.

Linux Issues / syncing with Evolution, or what else?
« on: April 25, 2004, 06:59:50 pm »
Hi,
i dont know much about sharprom things. Using Opie, as it is distributed with openzaurus for example, there is no problem to sync with evolution. You just have to install multisync (also the ip things with ifconfig and routeadd). It works quite nice.
For Sharprom (and depended roms) I am always reading good voices  about ko/PI. In this case please have a look at: http://pi-sync.net/
Cheers,
Sam
