Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13v2
« on: December 04, 2007, 02:23:34 am »
I'm running pdaXii13 an a c3200 (thx a lot for the great work!) Unfortunalety I realized too late that the fixing 64 MB NAND limit funktion had failed, so I only have 64 MB (real)root and 64 MB /user. After completing my installation of pdaXii13v1 there is no space left on (real)root, but the system is running smoothely without errors and I can install new programs in /. When I tried to do the upgrade to v2alpha5, after a short time there was an error: no space left on device and the upgrade failed. I read the discussion about free space of 30 - 40 MB in /, so I'm afraid I have to do the NAND-partitioning  to 121MB and then do a completely new install.    Or is there any other way to solve the problem?

Is there any way to change the directory for incoming obex-files? Default is /home/root/Desktop  which is not quite the best choice. Thanks in advance, nice to have a working OBEX with beta3!

The gui works fine for me for audio and video playback but the font of the playlist and icons are way too small so you cannot really use it. This isn't connected to the font size in .gtkrc-2.0 but must be part of the script. I went through the files in /usr/lib/gymp but found nothing so far...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=148101\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The files in /usr/lib/pymp are already compiled. So you can download an attached file and replace playlist.pyc with this file. If you want to change font size. find "font = pango.FontDescription("14")" in the file and change "14" which is font size.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=148125\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That's it! Thank you very much!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hda/hdc Assignment
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:10:11 am »
For me (SL3200) the microdrive is always /dev/hda1 (mounted to /mnt/ide) and the CF-Slot is /dev/hdc1 (mounted to /mnt/cf). To achieve this automatically each time I boot, I use my microdrive with only one large ext3 partition (which allows me also to install programs there in the case I need to. It also holds my swap-file of 128 MB)

Then I had to change the lines in /etc/fstab in the usual way:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/ide auto noauto,owner 0 0
/dev/hdc1 /mnt/cf   auto noauto,owner 0 0

I added another line for using USB-sticks:

/dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstorage auto noauto,owner 0 0

After next booting all devices are always mounted properly, CF-card inserted or not.

Interesting. I didn't know about that one.
It is said (on its homepage) that it is able to save also small files.
How is this implemented? I'm still looking for a kind of encrypted container for samll sensitive files. Bestcrypt is what I use now, but I don't like it too much, because containers cannot be created on the zaurus but only in Windows. and because it has no GUI :-)

I don't know of that feature. What you can do is using a complete file as a password,  but I never tried to save an external file within gringotts. It's rather lightweight. But you can try it out, it's in the unstable feed (and needs libgringotts from there too).

Programs I use:

Wordprocessing: Abiword (what else?)

Spreadsheet: Gnumeric (what else?)

PIM: KDEPIMPI (kopi/kapi)

Browser: Firefox: slow only until having started, with mplayer-plugin for video streaming (unfortunaltely only microsoft codecs)
Sometimes konqueror, when I have lots of time to load the KDE-environment...

Email: Sylpheed

Audio: xmms (mp3, ogg, wav) and mplayer (if xmmx doesn't work properly)

Video: mplayer without cache in fullscreen

ebooks: FBReader (really great for fb2 and html!) and sometimes OpieReader (additional formats)

PDF: Xpdf (works, but ugly), evince (only for small documents). Sometimes KPDF, when I have lots of time to load the KDE-environment...
so this is one the few items I'm not quite happy with.

Editor: Leafpad and good old joe...

Terminals: mrxvt (very usefull!) and GTKTerm2.

Grafics: gthumb to get pictures from my digicam via USB, Gimp (not so often), KSnapshot for screenshots, when I have...

Personal Data: Gringotts

Dictionaries: StarDict for nearly everything, ZBedic for wikipedia...

Games: Imarbles, gnuchess, gSoko, GWeled...

I think, that's it.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / [solved] Can Not Restore Nand On C-1000
« on: November 01, 2006, 02:09:08 am »
Just to make sure: You know, you have to format the card as FAT and NOT Fat32?
Whenever I had a problem with a medium for NAND backup/restore, new formatting  helped.

Hi there...

I had the same problem...

Go to the Settings Manager -> User Interface and Select an other Icon Theme - or just click on the only one...

It should work...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=144556\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thank you, that's it! I get the error only if I use the RODENT Icon Theme. With GNOME or ROX everything seems to be fine...

Run gthumb from the shell (ie rxvt, xterm) in xfce and post any errors...

Late
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=144394\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That was my first idea too, but there is no difference: Some seconds after starting from the shell the error window pops up and that's it. No further messages so far...

Hi,

I got the same error message '"The application 'gthumb' has quit unexpectedly " as teddywu. I installed the hicolor theme but with the same result.

Does anybody get this truely working under xfce? If yes than please give us some updates.

Regards,
climber

SL-C3100 pdaXrom 1.1.0.beta3 with xfce4-4.4.beta2
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=144386\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Same problem here. gThumb 2.6.9 works perfectly under ROX with rox-pinboard, where I can use my digicam for direct USB picture import. When switching to xfce4, I get the same error message when I only try to start the program. This is one of the reasons, why I often switch between these two desktops.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Suspend/resume Mechanisms In Beta3

No, a Wifi connection is not the problem.
I often suspend / resume when Wifi is plugged in and connected. Should not be a problem anyway, becasue the suspend / resume scripts du a catdctl eject on suspend and cardctl insert on resume, so WiFi is reinitialized anyway.

I have not found a real pattern yet, but it seems it happens when I

Either 1:
Suspend and resume within a very short time (some seconds)

Or sometimes 2:
Suspend, let it sit for a long time (12 hours) and then resume.
However maybe these occurrences are cuased by me pressing OnOff twice accidentally for suspend, which would effectiely be the same as 1.

Under normal usage (Suspend when finished with some work, resume a few minutes or hours later when continueing) I have no problems, no matter if I have WiFi or other cards such as BT or Flash memory active.

I experienced the same problems with c3200 and beta3 when suspending for a long time (overnight), BUT ONLY, when using xfce4! With rox-session and rox desktop my suspend/resume (resuming only with Home key) works fine and I can also activate alarms with atd and kdepimpi out of  supending overnight and get a proper resume. So as a (very poor!) workaround I stop xfce before resuming for the night and then resume after rox desktop came up. Unfortunately my knowledge of the suspending/resume process is too poor to track the problem properly.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 1.1.0r121 Is Out!
« on: October 04, 2006, 11:37:51 am »
I went back to the stable beta3. For me this is the most serious problem: There is no working NAND-backup function with this version (with all uboot versions?? I don't know). You can Nand backup but the NAND restore fails.   So any major problem you run into during tuning the system leads to startup from the beginning or at least to very time consuming step by step backups and new installs.
I really hope the following versions will allow NAND backups again.

Followed your footsteps and everything worked out fine on my c3200 with beta3. I have xfce4 and rox and my keymap works properly...BUT
Fn+3 /Fn+4 doesn't work for backlight. In startxfce4 I found  -kb in the defaultserverargs line, so what's wrong? Any hint? Can anyone post his working xinitrc.xfce? Thanks in advance.
